I have no Hobby Lobby, so no horse in the race, but... They are kinda shooting themselves in the foot. Many times, a coupon is the incentive that brings a customer in that may not have a plan for what they will buy, justthe determination to spend money while saving 40%. Yep!! I have two Hobby Lobbys in my city but neither is super convenient to get to. The 40% off coupon keeps me going there and, of course, I always find lots of things that I "need" while I'm there. Not having a coupon means that I won't go there much anymore. Oh well! I honestly have enough stuff in my stash. I need to use up what I already have. This will be better for my credit card.

Hobby Lobby is a garbage company so doesn't bother me at all. I rarely shop at Michael's unless I need something right away (like adhesive or some random craft item for my kid) and they're a mile from my house.

Now the question is if they going to stop the good sales. I can see where the dies, stamps, and maybe Tim Holtz stuff will never go below 30% off.

I need to go to Michaels. I never go as it is across town and their sb section at my store sucks. But...I could drive over there to save 40%. Unfortunately, it has been awhile since I've seen Michael's offer a 40 or 50% coupon. Every time I look - which is not that infrequently - it's 20% off. I don't know if that's a permanent thing, but they definitely do not seem to be offering it nearly as often as they did before the pandemic. JoAnn's still appears to be offering them though. it's been a loooooong while since they had any coupons above 20%. and they don't even take competitor coupons either. i stopped going to michaels when the pandemic started. the first time i went back, the coupons were gone. poof! just like that. i used to go once a week and several times a week during the holidays. since the coupons stopped, so have i. since then i've reacquainted myself with Joanns again because they still do the larger coupons.

Went to HL today to get some of that adhesive I was talking about and I confirmed with the cashier that they are doing away with the coupons. I don't know if they're just told different stories, but she flat out said they were getting rid of them due to customer abuse but then went on to show me that wedding stuff was usually 30% off and now it's 50% off. How is it abusing coupons if they're supposedly going to be offering bigger sales? I just think they don't expect it to harm their bottom lines since Michaels appears to be doing okay not offering them.
What sucks is that the closest HL to me has had the same packages of the adhesive I want for months...it is janky and in far less than perfect condition but because they have 3 in stock, they aren't ordering more. That means the hubby and I will eventually be taking a trip to some further away locations so I can 'abuse' the coupons and get the adhesive from other stores and get 2 instead of 1 with his help. The other store I bought them from when I started the project had packages in really good condition, so at least I know to expect better when I make the drive across town AND it means I can justify a trip in to Ikea since they're near each other (if only Ikea wasn't out of EVERYTHING I want except for the glassware I have on my list).

Many times, a coupon is the incentive that brings a customer in that may not have a plan for what they will buy, justthe determination to spend money while saving 40%. So true! A 20% off coupon usually means I can find what I want cheaper on Amazon, and with Prime shipping, it's a no-brainer. I have only been to Michael's maybe 3 times during the pandemic, and I've only purchased once (some poster frames that were on sale 50% off). When I used to shop with 40% coupons, I usually found something to use the coupon and other stuff to go with it. The coupon was the prompt to do "fun" shopping as opposed to going to the store for something I specifically needed. Honestly, the lack of coupons is probably much better for my bottom line than the amount I used to save with the coupon!

Staying at home for nearly a year has gotten me very well acquainted with my craft room and supplies. I realized at some point that I do not need to be shopping at craft stores, because I already have more than I will ever use. Coupons aren’t much temptation these days, but there were plenty of times prior to COVID that I went shopping with a coupon and ended up buying more. A lot more.
Getting customers into the store usually results in sales. Without the coupon, I think fewer people will shop there.

How is it abusing coupons if they're supposedly going to be offering bigger sales? I just think they don't expect it to harm their bottom lines since Michaels appears to be doing okay not offering them. I can't speak for HL, but I worked at a large craft retailer for years and customers would come up with several small items (say, bottles of Wilton food coloring that were $2-3 each) and demand that we do five separate transactions, using the same coupon every time, so they could get 40-50% off all 5 bottles. Although the official line was that the coupons were one-time use, at a district and store level, no one wanted upset customers, so we weren't supposed to argue with them. I could see that possibly happening at HL. As far as the increased sales percentage, (in case any Peas didn't know) many companies have things called "loss leaders" that they purposely take a financial hit on so that they can make it up elsewhere. So the loss leader brings the customer into the store and while they're at HL, they pick up thread and needles to fix some clothes and glue that they need for a different project, paying full price for those items. Also, if I am recalling correctly, almost all the wedding stuff at Hobby Lobby is their house brand, so they don't have to pay money to the external brand AND they can set the initial price high enough that even at 50% off, they're still making a profit.

Yesterday I noticed that mini products in the scrapbooking and paper crafting isles are no longer PAPER STUDIO brand and are not included in the 50% off sales.
Also the pattern paper is no longer 4/$1.00.
Changes are in the wind...

And the new house brand doesn't go on sale.

I stopped doing much shopping at the big box stores a while back because I like the brands I get online much better. When I do go it’s usually for a few pieces of pattern paper or cardstock.
I’m surprised HL stopped coupons entirely instead of just lowering the value and adding exclusions like Michael’s did. I guess since HL seems to have continuous sales on practically everything it evens out.

That's annoying. I don't go there often but I would use the coupon on their app. I doubt prices will be better.

It is a similar name, but will confuse people for sure.

Just an FYI... Michaels has their 40% off coupon again this week. I think you just need to be a Rewards member and look in the app under My Rewards for the coupon.
