I keep seeing it mentioned and I know I can get an app for my iphone, but how does it work and is it easy to use? Is it as good as they say and what type of info is used?

I'd like to know this as well. Glad you asked, Lauren.

I use Dropbox all the time. It is just online storage. I have the app on both of my computers and on my iPhone and iPad. I just use it like a hard drive - I can save files to Dropbox then access the files from any of the devices. Very convenient.
ETA: It works on the Kindle and Nook, too.

You put the app on your phone, then you download the software to your home computer. Then when you turn your computer, it downloads all your photos to your home computer.
It does stay in the dropbox file, but you can go there, select all, and copy them to your picture files.
It's pretty easy altogether.

Think of Dropbox as a virtual external hard drive. Instead of it sitting on your desk next to your CPU it sits in the clouds available to you from anywhere. anytime via PC's. Mac, iPad and smart phones. Any files you keep there are available. I love it and use it all the time.

Thanks for the explanations. Sounds like something I should have.
Is there a size limit on the amount of data you can store?

Thanks for the explanations. Sounds like something I should have. Is there a size limit on the amount of data you can store? Yes, but there are wags to increase it. Or you can just pay for it. I have used it for over a year and haven't paid yet. I did go in and delete all the fuzzy ones.

We use it a lot at work. If you have files such as large power points or other documents with lots of photos, etc. that make the file too big to email, you can put it on dropbox then share that particular file with whoever you want to share it with. You just click on the share button, and then put in the email address of the person you want to share it with, and then they get an email with a link to your file. They can't see everything, just whatever file you choose to share. Hope that makes sense!

I use it almost exclusively for documents, though I think other people use it to back up their pictures (I use an external hard drive combined with Google Photos for picture storage).

I think there is a 2 gb storage limit. I don't use it as backup so I've never had to pay. But when I got my tablet and installed the dropbox app, they gave me extra storage for a year.
I mainly use it for pictures (easy transfer) or for backups of some of my apps. Most seem to have the option to backup to dropbox.

I think the default is 2gb. Installing apps, sharing folders, inviting other users to dropbox, etc, all get you more space. At this point, I have 6.5gb of space available to me. I use it to share files between my home and work computers, android phone and iPad. I also have my android and my iPad automatically backing up my photos and videos to dropbox, as well as some app data. I use shared folders to share with numerous other people for work and personal reasons. I <3 dropbox.

I have the dropbox app installed on all of my devices (2 phones, 1 ipod, 1 tablet, 1 pc) and I have only been given extra storage space when I put it on my tablet. I think I got hosed.

No, I was wrong about getting space for installing the app. Box did that for me, not Dropbox. Here's their FAQ for Getting More Space.

I use Dropbox all the time and I have had a great experience with it. I won't explain what it is because others here have done a great job already. I started out using it to share files and notes for a grad class I was taking and then started using it to share photos. I love the fact that I can share a folder with other people so they have access to the content as well. You can control that by inviting specific people by email and allowing the person you are sharing the folder with to only look at the contents, or actually have the ability to edit the contents. I love it so much and use it so frequently that I upgraded to the $99 a year plan. It works perfectly for me!

We use dropbox at work. We have a ton of shared folders that any of us can work on and we all see the updates.

I love it. I even have my phone set up to automatically upload my pictures to it. Then I don't have to move them to my computer.

I use Dropbox to easily move photos between my windows laptop, my iPad and my android phone. It works like a charm. My life would be easier, though, if all my devices were on the same platform!
I also use it to send and receive videos of my dgd to my dd.

I use Dropbox a lot and love it. As others have said it's cloud storage. Also useful for sharing files with someone instead of emailing eg my brother in the UK shared a folder with me where he uploads photos and videos of my niece. I can then download them in New Zealand.

I love Dropbox! We use it for PTL to share files among the executive and with school administration, and I use it personally to put my ebooks on to add to my iPad, Kobo, etc.

Dropbox is awesome! We use it at work for files that are too large to email and need quicker delivery than putting them on a disc or thumb drive. I have a file that I share with my scrapbook friends for free cutting files and digital files that we find and want to share. I used it to gather pictures from everyone on a group vacation so that we could all have them. I've uploaded personal documents that I might need at work or on vacation so that they're accessible anywhere/anytime. I've gotten lots of use out of it!

So what is the advantage of this vs just doing a backup to the computer through iTunes or straight up downloading pictures to the computer?

I'm a volunteer board member of a small foundation and we love using dropbox to store and share information. Everyone on the board has the password access.
Here's some of the ways we use it: When someone takes pictures at an event, he uploads them to dropbox. I am the newsletter editor, so I can go to the dropbox files and choose pics I want to use. When someone chairs a fundraiser, she uploads all of their documents to dropbox so that next year's chairperson can get to them and they're not tying up someone's home computer space. We've also uploaded all of our official by-laws so that we don't have to print out a 50-page document to give to each new board member.

I use it all the time. I use it for my business files. That way I can access patterns, applications, photos, etc. without having to carry a USB drive and I can pull them up at work, at home, on my iphone and on my ipad.
I cannot live without it, really.

So what is the advantage of this vs just doing a backup to the computer through iTunes or straight up downloading pictures to the computer? I have an old, crappy, slow computer at home. I only boot it up when I absolutely have to. I store nothing on it, all my music and photos are on an external drive (backed up elsewhere). I'm in my car A LOT, so all the storage on my phone is used for music and podcasts. I use DropBox to transfer the pictures I take on my phone to free up space. I have Wifi at home and at work so I upload pictures anytime to DropBox then delete them off my phone. It takes me maybe fifteen minutes, depending on how many pictures I've taken, but most of that time is my phone uploading and me doing nothing. I can barely get my laptop on, phone plugged in, and start the picture upload in that period of time.

It's fast and easy to access from my phone or my computer, when I want to go back and call up a photo for whatever reason off my phone. I also use it for business to transfer large photo, video and business files to clients or production partners.
