I was at Michael’s today and a lot of shelves were bare. Lots of clearance items. Does anyone know what products they plan on bringing in to the store? Tim Holtz Idea-ology has been gone for a while in my area. Their Recollections dies are currently on clearance, very few ink pads are left with the exception of Tim’s Distress Oxides (which made me happy to see they are still in stock). I hate their Recollection stamps. They don’t give a clear image when stamped. I wish they would carry some of the Tim Holtz rubber stamp sets.

I know a lot of their stuff has been clearanced out, but you can't tell unless you scan it. Tons of inks sets were clearanced. I can see that they are slowly building back up their stickers after the purge around Thanksgiving.

I know a lot of their stuff has been clearanced out, but you can't tell unless you scan it... I went to two Michaels on Monday. One store had clearance stickers & several empty shelves, while the other store didn't have a single clearance sticker & fewer empty spaces. The same items were on clearance, just not marked at the second location. Luckily, I was able to find the VersaFine Clair ink colors that I wanted (on clearance for $2/ea, reg. $8.99/ea). I hope they won’t be bringing in more of their Recollection products. Me too!

They don’t stick to blocks either, very crappy stamps imho

It’s about time they cleared out call those stale products. Seems like they’ve had the same stuff for years. Looking forward to seeing what they fill those empty shelves with.
I was in Bed Bath and Beyond today and they had plenty of empty shelves too, especially in the kitchen section.

Their thin paper has been there for years. They either have thin paper or paper for $2. Ugh.

Global supply chains are still in chaos and there's a shipping container shortage going on. I've been following some Kick Starter fulfillments and the price to rent a shipping container out of China destined for anywhere else in the world have doubled to tripled. In short, lots of stuff wants to leave China, not much is being shipped back, and thus containers are not where they need to be to make the exports happen.
While that's hardest for smaller companies, it's impacting a lot of inexpensive products made abroad the most.

What does that mean for craft supplies? They are way down the list if they are made outside the US. People have been waiting months for appliances, bicycle parts, recreational water equipment, the list goes on and on!

I dunno - my M's just closed, and the next closest one is "temporarily" closed.

I wish they would get rid of the sliding sticker racks. They are bulky, heavy and cumbersome.
Two people can't look at stickers at the same time, nor is there room for two shopping carts in close proximity.
I hope they get some new stickers and single sheet papers, they've had the same stuff for years and years.

I wish they would get rid of the sliding sticker racks. They are bulky, heavy and cumbersome. Yes they are. All stores are in papercraft reset cycle, but what happens at one store in January may not happen at another until March. This applies to clearance also. If you suspect or hear that an item is on clearance at another store in another region, then it may not have hit your store yet (or the store may not have been able to make the price changes (on the product) due to staffing), but should scan the clearance price. Supply chain issues continue to be an issue due to Covid, so many products have been long delayed.

I went in to my local M’s today in San Diego. The shelves were pretty stocked for the most part. Nothing was on clearance. I was hoping to pick up some ink pads at a great price but there was no markdown. I did see the end cap with the Recollections/Paige Evans collaboration items. I adore Paige’s products but these looked like the same cheap looking Recollections products we usually see. I walked out with nothing once again. I find more at HL or J’s these days. It’s amazing how I used to be there a few times per week to now going every few months. 20% coupon is not enough to lure me in to buy outdated products.

I haven't been to M's since first week of January - specific run for vinyl. The clearance section was empty and they had started putting out Spring items...papercrafting isles were not empty, but very thin....but had a lot of the same 'ol, same 'ol, like what most of you have said on a good note, saving money right now...

I rarely go to Michael’s any more unless I need adhesive or heavy cardstock. I went there last month and the shelves were still full of the usual old stickers and Recollection stuff. They tend to restock at the beginning of the year with new items but they they rarely get anything in I want to buy. I might be interested if I can get a good deal on a few clearance items.
Too bad their Recollection stamps are poor quality now. I bought a few when they first started carrying them and they were really nice.
And yes, please get rid of those obnoxious sliding doors!

I wish they would get rid of the sliding sticker racks. Mine got rid of the racks after the mega clearance. Now they still have the same sticker aisle but much fewer stickers over all.

I rarely go to Michael’s any more unless I need adhesive or heavy cardstock. Same here. Or if I need a different color Copic marker. I almost never shop at the Big Box craft stores, even though I don’t live near any LSS.

Who remembers a 1 cent craze at Michael’s circa 2010-2013? YouTube was full of the hauls of people getting ton of items for 1 cent. Different time right now, for sure.

I went to M earlier this week, hadn't been there since mid December. Couldn't believe all the paper craft stuff that was on clearance. Lots of empty spots with clearance stickers. Those sticker racks things had been taken down. I didn't feel like I missed much, because M's selection of paper crafting stuff is poor. I didn't pick up anything (other than adhesive, a marker and some florals) because I'm trying to be on a DEEP freeze until I use some stuff up.

I counted yesterday. There are fourteen 3-foot sections of stickers and bling. It does look quite sparse compared to pre-Thanksgiving shelves, but it is slowly coming back.

I'm a former retail professional. This time of year is usually inventory time, so no wonder that the shelves are emptier. And know that imports from overseas, read as "China", are down as China is not importing as much from the US leading to an abundance of empty containers not going back to China with goods. Not cost efficient to ship back empty containers to China. Thus we're not getting stuff coming here. So, a double whammy.
My local Bed Bath & Beyond staff member told me that they have no idea what stock items they are getting until they open the boxes. It's all a mess.

Yesterday our Michael's had $5 grab boxes which we've never managed to snag, so my mom and I got 3. STUFFED with scrapbook albums. 23 in total. So 75 or so cents per album. I was afraid I was going too have at start scrapping 12x12 again, but 11 of them are 8x11!
The rest will become our family photo albums, we gotta rid of all our yucky ones in the move and the pictures are all in boxes right now.
I still can't believe it. I was a little bummed that there wasn't anything else in the boxes besides albums, but they are so useful and I hate spending money on them so this is perfect.
(We also got some nice paper packs for $5 and some 6x6 ones for $2. Such a fun trip!)

What a find for you!

I had money burning a hole in my pocket about a month ago and ventured to Michaels. I went up-and-down the SB aisles in two different stores looking for anything that might catch my fancy and could find NOTHING. Even the boring stuff that was on my list just to stock up- ATG refills, Xyron X refills, 3D/puffy adhesive squares- were nowhere to be found.
I did find a cute 12x12 paper pad of all plaids and checks that I loved. If I could move into that paper pad I totally would!
I"ve been saving a ton of money due to quarantine and just want to buy some fun, cute stuff! In person! And couldn't find anything.

Just read this article from the WSJ today, interview of the current Michael’s CEO and a discussion of the post-Covid direction that the company will take. Looks like they are going to emphasize products for “Makers” and even provide an Etsy-like platform for crafters to sell their wares. I am wondering how this approach will affect stock. Here is the article: Michael’s CEO Interview (WSJ)
