I would miss way too many sporting events if I didn't have some kind of cable or satellite. We almost never watch network TV. Many of the Dallas Stars games are on a channel that requires cable. A lot of the NHL playoffs require cable. Many college football games require cable. We don't watch any dramas or sitcoms so I don't think Netflix, Hulu, etc. would help us. So, we keep paying for cable. I would love to cut it back some though. I need to look at the details of what I am paying for compared to what it required for the channels we watch and would miss and see if I can cut back.

We cut it probably a couple of years ago. At first, I did not think I would like it, but I love not having to pay for DishNetwork service anymore. We have Netflix, Amazon Prime and HuluPlus. My husband also made his own digital antenna and so we get all the local channels, but we don't watch that much at all, just occasionally. He also has the ability to record programs on the computer through the antenna, but we don't do that often. I know when American Idol comes on, he will do that. My daughter was looking for the remote for the Roku last night and we realized we hadn't even had the TV on in 3 days. That is surprising since the kids used to have it on all the time.
We also have a service called Plex that we play through the Roku. Husband put all of our DVD movies on a computer server and this allows us to just choose whatever movie is there instead of using DVDs. Also through Plex, the major networks (except Fox) are on there to stream their shows. We usually try to watch shows from there instead of HuluPlus because there are no commercials.
