The thing with screws and plates is that often after a period of time they have to come out. Now some stay in your whole life. This just may be that time that they need to come out. You definitely should talk to a ORTHO dr. Not just a GP. It could be an tissue infection, could be osteomyelitis, could be time for the metal to come out. Your GP won't know these things.

Interesting because she did send me a referral to ortho!! I wasn't sure why as she wasn't clear. I thought it was because she thought it was arthritis. But this makes MUCH more sense. My gut feeling now that we found a teeny tiny scan is that it's an infection from a shaving knick.

I am glad that you are on antibiotics. Take ALL of them, even if you have tummy issues. Usually take them with food, but ask your pharmacist first.
The ortho will be able to determine more about the infection.
Thanks for the update.

The few times I've had antibiotics, the directions were to take with food. Hopefully this one is similar.

She may be doing the xray to make sure there is no infection in the bone (you would probably not feel a bone infection - I had one in my finger and had no idea) Also this would back-up the antibiotic script writing too.
What antibiotic did she give you? Try eating yogurt a few hours before/after the antibiotic. It does help the stomach a lot.

Yes, this ^^^ The antibiotics will also take out the good bacteria in your gut and upset the balance in your digestive system. Probiotics/yogurt helps restore that balance. Gosh, I hope you get a clear answer and it turns out to be an easy fix.

brandy327 keep advocating for yourself with this. My coworker had pins and plate in her ankle from a bad break that wasn’t even 10 years old. The skin on the outside above the metal got to where it was always red and hot to touch. She kept going to doc and they said arthritis and tried to pin the redness on eczema. She was also always running a low grade fever and would get chills. Finally during the pandemic last summer she saw a new orthopedist and they listened. Turns out the metal had chipped and flaked into her bone and caused an infection. Her only option because they needed to remove it was a ankle replacement. She had it right before Christmas. Feels so much better. She said she didn’t realize how crappy she had been feeling till it was fixed.

I've taken zpack twice and Levaquin, which made me sick. But I think the one she's prescribed starts with a D. I tried looking it up and I did find one that starts with d and it was for skin infections but it showed that it was given via IV. I'll know here in a couple of hours when I go pick it up. I'll definitely grab some yogurt if we don't have any here!

You should definitely go. Why would you cancel? is it because of insurance? If you are feeling better it's because of the antibiotic. It doesn't nec mean that it fixed the problem. I would go in and talk to the ortho about if the metal is something that needs to come out at some point? and just get a baseline eval. If it's no better, which is doubtful, because even if it's a bone infection (osteomyelitis)the antibiotic could have helped.

She's doing an x-ray and an ortho consult to rule out a problem with your hardware, which at this point sounds more likely than a shaving injury, but you're covered on that end in any case.
Keep the appt!

Keep the appt! Totally agree! I have had 3 3-D x-rays on my plates due to pain and issues. It is a known fact that at some point, at least the one under my eye will need to be redone. It happens more often than not. Keep the appointment!

Another saying keep the damn appointment. It could save your life.
I had some horrid antibiotics for an ear infection recently, yogurt may have helped a bit but after the second day (4 pills) I started taking probiotic gummies. After that I felt much better, not sure if they really helped or not or if the yogurt kicked in or my body adjusted, but the first two days were brutal. I would pick some up when you get your prescription.

That doesn’t sound like a promising dr visit.
Get yourself a probiotic to take with the antibiotic to ward off any stomach issues.
I hope you feel better soon

Alright, y'all made a good case. I'll keep the appt on Monday.
I'm just so over drs appts. Between me and my girls I think we've had 4 or 5 in the last few weeks and I have 3 more this week. And I get a bit worried every time I go into a dr/hospital setting these days with the covid risk. I've made it this far without contracting it, I'd be mighty pissy if I got it 2 weeks before my second vaccine. LOL

The visit sounded exactly how I would've expected it to go. Lab work, xray, antibiotic prescription, and an ortho consult. They can't diagnose until they have labs and xrays back. More testing may need to be done based on those results. Keep the consult. The ortho would be the one for an intervention if it's more than a simple infection.

Consider the $50.00 co-pay as an investment in your life. Bone infections can go crazy, very quickly. A blood infection could cause you to die. REALLY! Think about this. Or would you prefer perhaps a wheelchair if you cannot walk or need an amputation? It isn't the money, this is YOUR LIFE!

Soooo the pharmacy didn't have the meds in stock so they called both pharmacies in the area and they didn't have it either. So it looks like I won't have it until tomorrow after 2pm.

I'm so sorry! When it rains, it pours, doesn't it? I hope your ortho doctor can figure out the cause, and it's a easy fix!

So the antibiotics they called in were sent in as a liquid (gag). So when they called the drs office last night, they couldn't get an immediate answer if they could make it pills instead. So this morning when it came in, they filed the liquid. But then the drs office called back and switched it to different pills. It just really gives me more bad vibes with that dr.
Someone had asked which antibiotics. I don't know what was originally sent in, but it was supposed to be twice a day. Instead I ended up with cephalexin, which is 4 times a day. 😮 I got my first dose in at noon today.
It still feels about the same today. So here's hoping the meds do the trick. Then see ortho Monday.

Cephalexin is the one I was given, but I only had to take it 2x a day. I have never had the stomach issues with other antibiotics like I did with this one. I highly suggest you get probiotic gummies or something to take with it. Yogurt was not enough for me.

Since no one has mentioned this, I will just add that in my personal experience, antibiotics always lead to yeast infections.
