I finally got some good brushes to help with inking my stencils and they are coming out so much nicer! So what are your favorite places for stencils? Like for backgrounds or scene building?

I actually like a few from paper rose- it’s an Aussie company but you can get at scrapbook.com

I get my stencils from scrapbook.com or Joggles.com Joggles is mainly a mixed media store. For background scene building The Crafters Workshop brand has some good ones.

If you have an electronic cutter and a specific design in mind, I just saw a video today where the YouTuber used the thick colored report covers (or dividers??) in her machine to make stencils. I know it has been brought up previously on materials to use in electronic machines.

I love Echo Park/Carta Bella and Pink Fresh stencils. The quality is terrific! EP/CB has their stencil cut files in the Silhouette store so I can cut them on my Cameo if I prefer.

Like stamping, I only incorporate stenciling into scrapbooking/layouts. I'm themed-challenged & don't build scenes, but gravitate toward basic designs (eg. polka dots, stars, hearts) mostly from Echo Park/Carta Bella (scroll past Embossing Folders to view Stencils) & Simple Stories. HTH, & you find some new designs to add to your collection!

TBH I don't get much use out of the stencils I own. But the cloud one I cut freehand out of a piece of acetate works pretty darn well for ink blending subtle skies. I use brushes with it and although I only saved a few bucks by making my own it all adds up. I cut each side randomly into puffy shapes so I would have variety in the cloud formations.

I have stencils from from various companies—Gina K, Lawn Fawn, Tim Holtz, Kaiserkraft. I think the best thing to do is just go online to the bigger stores and browse.

Can someone post a pic for an example of scene building? Or a YT video? I'm new to stencils and ink blending.

What brushes do you like? I love my Pink and main small blending brush pinkandmain.com/ergonomic-blending-brush/ but knew it was cost prohibitive for me doing multiple colors (so I only have one). I found these brushes on Amazon that are working great and the cost was right for me: Amazon blending brushes

I just got a cloud stencil from SB.com. Saw someone use it on YT and thought it was awesome. Now we'll see how much talent you really need to use that one.

Check out Ardyth Percy-Robb if YT hasn't already recommended her. She doesn't do scene cards but she does a lot of ink techniques and fun stenciling.

I have many from various companies but my "go to" are Stencil Girl stencils usually by artists Rae Missigman and Wendy Brightbill. I always finger paint with my stencils. I can get a better paint blend that way. Here is my 2021 journal I "finger painted" with the Daisy Daisy stencil. The leaves were done with a die cut stencil. I like to die cut images and use those as stencils also. The phonebook image was done using the same Daisy Daisy stencil with leftover paint. I will use it on something I create.

What a great thread! Patter, I love that you're using pages from an old phone book to paint on

Mine are my favorite. 😂
Seriously though, there aren’t many stencils I don’t like. I am not too big into builder stencils. Probably because I don’t like to be told how to do things. Seems like too many rules. I like combining stencils that I think will work, though.

I was watching a video by The Frugal Crafter and she linked to a set of 30 6x6 stencils for $13 on Amazon, which is a pretty amazing deal. I thought I'd share it here in case anyone wants to pick it up! It's mainly a lot of geometric shapes/backgrounds.
