The white part you see is not the actual skirt of the dress. It's the petticoat. My dd loves the petticoat, but it will be covered with a very full skirt with an 18 inch train. The bodice will be the same ivory as the skirt with cap sleeves (to accommodate her vintage kid leather opera gloves which are part of the reason the dress is ivory in the first place. ) She'll wear a purple under bust corset over the dress bodice. I feel very behind and I am stressing mightily over this whole wedding thing. I have the least motivated bride on my hands the world has ever seen. She's just so blase about getting this stuff done. It's not helpful. I'm also feeling like the world's worst daughter. My mom came home from vacation with pneumonia and instead of feeling bad for her I started freaking out because she's supposed to sew four bridesmaids' blouses. FOUR. I'm going crazy. If anyone at all at any point calls me a "momzilla" I'm going to flip. They have no freaking idea.

It looks amazing! Your daughter is so very fortunate to have such a talented and generous mom, and I'm sorry she's not showing you the appreciation you deserve or giving you the help you need.

Here you go - I think you're looking for this: Breath, momma. It will all get done, and it will all be ok.

It is beautiful, and you are doing such a good job.
Just remember to breath!
Everything will come together - and I say that as a bride who found herself having to plan and execute her wedding in less than 5 weeks without a set budget and with little help until the day of.
Best of luck to you and the bride-to-be!

It is going to be gorgeous!
I was walking around a little independent clothing shop the other day that had the greatest steampunk type dresses and I wanted to try them all on. I kept saying to myself, "I wish I were going to perumbula's daughter's wedding so I had a place to wear this!"

Sounds like it's going to be stunning - original and full of personality. I can't imagine the stress of doing it all though.

I kept saying to myself, "I wish I were going to perumbula's daughter's wedding so I had a place to wear this!" LOL, Julee! I'm sure my girl could help you find all sorts of reasons to wear a steampunk dress. I went shopping this afternoon with a friend at Joann and it was really helpful to spend time with her. She really knows how to make me laugh. I almost came home with four yards of houndstooth to make myself a steampunk style over jacket for my dress. Once I started adding it up, though I couldn't pull the trigger. It would have cost about $60 to make. dang it. Because I totally need a MIB/cross-played Sherlock Holmes dress, right? I have some sheer fabric at home that I'm going to dye the right color and do a floaty sheer jacket thing instead. (But my heart still yearns for the houndstooth I'd never wear again.) In other good news, the new pattern for the bodice I came home with from Joann is turning out perfectly.

I'm looking forward not only to pictures of the finished dress but the whole wedding. I love unique weddings -- it's so fun when people think outside the box and follow their own hearts instead of a tired re-hash of what's "in."

I kept saying to myself, "I wish I were going to perumbula's daughter's wedding so I had a place to wear this!" OK, thanks for the refresher! I was trying to remember the whole story, and I'm not good like that. I think it's going to look really good. And you know what, if she isn't going to care overly much, then don't you stress overly much, either!

ETA: I think you need to go back and get the houndstooth - you deserve it!
