Yes, cancer does suck. But... is that the Medal of Freedom that Melania is giving him? Didn't trump award him that? Since he did absolutely NOTHING to earn it I feel like a different photo could have been used for this thread. There are so many since he was such a windbag and loved his own face.

He was a monster. I don't feel sorry for him, and I don't feel sorry for his family. If you can love someone as hateful has him, there's something wrong with you - you're as lacking in character as he was.
Good riddance to bad rubbish. One less scumbag in the world.

That was the only photo available when I started the thread. FOX news’ tweet was literally the only thing/link available. I thought that providing something to back up my claim was important, and CNN didn’t oblige me by providing a news story/link at the time. One of those cases where it is impossible to please everyone.

I’d like to say I’m sorry...but I’m really not. The world will be better off without him in it.

I'm sad when I hear anyone has died of lung cancer. That is a particularly awful disease. Lost a close friend to it in the late 90's and I'll never forget how horrible it was for her being unable to simply breathe. It's terrifying to me and heartbreaking to watch. I remember Limbaugh as one of the very first in Conservative talk radio (as we know it today). Initially it was pretty refreshing to hear his take on politics but it wasn't long before his rhetoric turned into straight up fear-mongering and divisiveness. This was all the way back during the Regan years. He just became ugly with how he would use his show to bait people and bring out the worst in everyone. His show spawned more shows like it, and that more or less forced the Left to respond with similar shows of their own...and the divisiveness continues to deepen to this day. So when I think of Rush (which is admittedly only when he's brought to my attention 'cause I left him behind a few decades ago), I think of a man who had a big hand in starting a cultural disease in the media that has greatly contributed to the fracturing of us as a country. I feel empathy for those who loved him but only to the extent that the were close family and friends because I know what it is to see someone you love die such a horrible death. This is my recollection as well. I initially found his show interesting, but I recall feeling uncomfortable listening to the "ditto heads" calling in, blindly agreeing with whatever he said, and after a short time I tuned out. It seems that after that he became more and more outrageous in the things he was saying, as I would occasionally read about him in the news. I put him in the same category as the other sensational "reality media" that started around that same time: The Osbournes, The Real World, Survivor, and (worst of all) the glorification of failed businessman Trump in The Apprentice I think it's been a bad thing for our country in particular, and the world in general, and has led to loss of free and intelligent thinking.

It debases the meaning of the medal, and all those who truly earned it, to show Limbaugh illegitimately receiving it.

My point was that that particular tweet was LITERALLY the only public “news” statement that Limbaugh had passed when I started this thread. My finding another photo wouldn’t have had anything to do with him passing away. And everyone knows the rules here - links to the story *must* be provided. Do I wish that FOX News had used another photo? Sure. I don’t think that he deserved the medal either. Do I wish that there were other news stories when I started this thread (Dh had received a news alert)? Yes. I will quote/link just about any source other than FOX News. I did the best that I could. Honestly. I’m a little emotional about the whole cancer thing right now, so hopefully you can understand.

Cancer does suck. My hope is that his passing brings about change and allows those whom he poisoned with his rhetoric, his racism, his xenophobia, his hatred. His life was all about spreading hatred and lies, pushed polarization in politics that got us to where we are now. I hope that people, in not being able to tune into his hatred, will heal, find peace, and change. but in reality, they'll latch on to other hateful shows. One at a time.

He was a monster. He did irreparable harm and led to the destructive, outsized lying, manipulative entities that are destroying our country. I will not mourn him or feel sad that he’s gone. I wouldn’t wish his diagnosis an anyone and as a s/4 lung cancer patient I would hope that my diagnosis is not seen as a mark of what kind of person I am or what I “deserve”.

I wouldn't wish cancer on anyone. Am I sad that Rush Limbaugh has died. Nope. He was part of the beginning of the decline of the republican party and the descent into the madness that exists today.

I will say I have been slightly disgusted by the comments I've seen from people on FB about what a great guy/powerful conservative voice he was, how he will be missed, blah blah blah
I have really had to bite my fingers.

I'm so grateful I don't have any of those people in my life. To say that a man who referred to 12 year old Chelsea Clinton as the White House dog is a "great guy" says a lot about a person. And it ain't good.

And it ain't good. OMG. I have read a lot of horrible things he said, I didn't know he said that! Hard to believe, isn’t it? But it happened. From Snopes: When we attempted to track down the origins of this claim we came across two examples of Limbaugh making such a reference. The first was a viral quote: “Socks is the White House cat. But did you know there is also a White House dog?” – Rush Limbaugh, holding a pic of 13-year-old Chelsea Clinton on TV, 1993.”

I am still angry about those who have praised him. He was a horrible, HORRIBLE man. David Muir did not pull punches tonight. They showed a bad side of him. Not the worst of what he said, but still, pretty much nothing good. And I do not believe they mentioned the Medal of Honor, for which I am very glad as it is DISGUSTING that he got it (but I may have missed that part)

Yup. He encouraged slavish devotion and unstinting agreement. The rub is he simultaneously claimed that his show was entertainment, that he himself was an entertainer, and that his job was to earn ratings and revenue for his employer through entertainment. (And earn his share of those many millions of dollars.) That was always his defense, always his way to avoid any challenges to truth or facts - “It’s entertainment, dummy.” Then he would just go on presenting everything he said as truthful and factual. Quite the rhetorical sleight of hand. Whiplash territory. It was comically unethical and, yes, had a serious effect on political discourse and culture - and how we get “news.” The last president he helped elect rewarded him as a patriot, and the culture he helped create is now mourning him as a great thinker and ideologue. The entertainer has had the last laugh. Yes, cancer sucks and families experience loss. But part of death is also noting the person’s actions and accomplishments. This is what he accomplished.

During Black History month 🤣🤣 Reminds me of the time the sink hole opened up at the White House.
It should serve as a lesson for folks 👀who need to repent that your actions won’t soften with death. Legacy. What you say and how you treat people is what the talk will be.
