Although I’m not a fan of the fabric choices, I think it holds a lot of potential for a new owner. The property is beautiful. It just needs the right person to love it.

Good lord, those upholstered cornices are just atrocious - we tore them out of my mom's house when she bought it in the mid-90s (they'd been there since the 60s). It seems pretty inexpensive given its proximity to the lake and 20 bedrooms. The bar and the open shelving in the kitchen gives me anxiety, the whole place is SO busy... Not at all what I pictured to be John Travolta's style.

I remember seeing one of his houses and I was impressed. I can't remember where it was but he had a runway on his property and he could land and then taxi to the huge circular driveway and right up to the front door. Parked his plane fifteen feet from his front door. So cool.
eta: This house was very modern/contemporary.

It looks like a little old ladies house. Not my cup of tea at all.

Not at all what I pictured to be John Travolta's style. I'm making gendered assumptions, but I'd guess that it was more Kelly Preston's style. I seem to recall her wearing quite a lot of florals and bright colors.

This could be an advertisement on why less is more and why a professional stager should be utilized when one puts one’s property on the market. Holy mother-of-justtoomuch.

It is very over-decorated but that might be it’s charm. I agree with this statement. I think it's refreshing, actually, to see a real live home that isn't the latest and greatest but does what it does do, very well. It looks happy to me.

Very sad that he is likely selling it because he lost his wife. I agree on decor. Outdated and overdecorated.

I kinda love it Especially the kitchen. I love those big glass fronted cabinets. With some editing, I think you could easily modernize the decor to something livable. I suspect that it was decorated in the 90s and not updated since then. They may not have used it much in recent years.

It's too far from the water for my liking. True, but it's on an island and has a septic system and well. I imagine they needed a lot of space for a leaching field for a house with 20 bedrooms and 8 baths. Isleboro is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Plus it's surrounded by BLUEBERRY FIELDS!!! The decor is busy, and not really my taste. They sure do have a lot of stuff. Soooo much.

You're probably right, though I don't really picture this as Kelly Preston's style either - she always seemed so timeless/classic when I saw her - not all chintzy and dated...

But also, even with the assets of major celebrities and professionals doing the design, etc., completely redecorating a large home is a major expense and time-suck. Since it wasn't their primary home, I can see how they may have done it to their tastes when they bought it, and then have left it that way.

Perhaps, but I'll take this one with 5 beds and 5 baths that popped up below the Travolta one - still would take some time to rip down all that wall paper but nice and close to the water! www.trulia.com/p/me/islesboro/134-big-tree-ln-islesboro-me-04848--2358747214

Too busy for me!
I really wanted to see the 3rd floor kids space - themed rooms, a diner, play equipment etc. The write up made it sound like a ton of fun!

The outside is lovely and it's in a beautiful location but the inside! Gosh it looks as if they've just thrown every colour they could find and put it wherever. All that patterned wallpaper - no, I couldn't live with all that either.

Also, that seems like a great price for an estate like that. There are new builds in my area for that price that don’t hold a candle to that location.

I haven’t seen toilet piping like that before. I wonder if raising the tank that high allows for a strong amount of water pressure while flushing, without using more water (gravity helping it all along). At least that was my thought when noticing that this morning and wondering why myself.
