What kind of mistakes have you made when you go away from home to crop? My friend and I usually have two weekends a year that we go away and crop. We have been doing it for years so I am used to packing to scrap away from home, but I made a major mistake the last time we went. I let my husband take my stuff out to the car and didn’t check to make sure I had everything. He even said this doesn’t seem like as much as you usually take, but I had tried to pack lighter, so I didn’t think to look. I didn’t have my tool bag, that has my scissors, pens, adhesive, and really a ton of other stuff. It’s my own fault because I had put everything in one spot other than that bag, but I was planning on loading the car myself. If I had loaded everything I would have known I was missing it.
I also couldn’t get my PictureMate printer to work with the hotel WiFi. I brought very few already printed photos so I had to make pages without photos and I’m printing and adding them now that I’m home. If I had brought my laptop I could have connected it and printed that way, so lesson learned there. Do not depend on being able to print wirelessly.
We still had a great time. I love our scrappy weekends even with not having everything I want with me. What kind of mistakes have you made scrapping away from home?

There was that time I forgot to pack pants. Ha!! I just had the pair I was wearing and lounge pants I brought to sleep in. I used to bring too much then spend all this time unpacking & setting up only to take it down at the end of the weekend and have to put it all away.

My most consistent mistake is packing way too much! For some ridiculous reason I always think I’ll run out of things to work on. Laughable as everything I bring takes me forever.
The retreat I’m at this weekend is the first time I brought my epson PM-400. I haven’t been to one in almost 6 years. I had the same problem as you. I couldn’t get my phone to locate the printer even tho both were on the WiFi. I had brought a memory card so I wasn’t dead in the water but the majority of pictures I wanted to scrap were on my phone and I had no computer. So I was not happy. The first night I brought the printer back to my room and spent a good hour and finally was able to get it to work. The epson photo app kind of gave me a pathway to get it to work.
ETA: bring your own Kleenex!

That was my thing - I needed options. Then one day I was packing for a crop. I picked patterned paper & cardstock for all of the pictures I was bringing then was going to toss in some extra white card stock. A whole pack of 25!! I realized who I was...a slowish scrapper who likes to talk a lot and removed that nonsense from my bag. ha!

I went to a weekend crop and forgot my bag of clothes & toiletries. We were about 20 miles from the nearest Target/Walmart so I had to waste over 2 hours of fun crafting time to find toiletries & clothes. Now when I go to weekend crops (well, when I used to go - I haven't been in over 3 years) I make sure to pack my clothes in my car first. Another time one of my friends requested I bring my wide format printer and I forgot the USB cable to connect it to my laptop (the house we stayed at didn't have internet/wifi so we couldn't go that route). Fortunately the local gas station had all kinds of random cables and I found one that worked. I used to bring practically my entire craft room because I wouldn't page plan prior to the even and would spend too much time rifling through my stuff trying to find things. Now if I know I'm going to a crop I page plan or only bring things related to the project I'm working on.

Too late now, but my wireless printer operates on a 2.4 GHz channel, not 5 GHz so I had to make a separate channel for printer or as Epson suggests to have a dual channel setting. So frustrating when things don't work, but you still finished some "naked" layouts. Lol

Put me in with the folks who packs way too much... but I'd definitely rather have too much than not enough!

For a day crop, I once forgot adhesive. Luckily, my friend had plenty, including an unopened one, so I could just easily replace it for her with a new one!
Usually, like others, I pack too much and then spend too much time contemplating or searching. Also I don’t preplan well enough so that I am more productive. I miss going to crops and will be so happy to start up again after vaccination and herd immunity. Hopefully by this fall!

I once waited too late to order photos before a weekend crop, and they were supposed to be delivered in time, but didn't make it before I had to leave. So I hurriedly packed some other photos and papers for an alternate project, but it was a very small project and everything else I had packed was dependent on the missing photos. Luckily, it was a local crop and the pics came in the next day's mail so DH surprised me by driving them over to me at the crop location. He was my hero! ETA: Other than that my most common mistake is packing waaaay too much stuff because I'm bad at pre-planning and I don't make kits. I just end up taking my whole scraproom with me, and you know how that usually turns out, LOL. Too much time setting up, repacking, and putting stuff away once I get back home...

Ooh! I love crop threads. I have been to hundreds, all kinds, some several days long, some mere hours. I usually have everything I need. The one thing I sometimes do that can be problematic is I streamline too much and end up without the paper or stickers I could use.
For example, I am almost done scrapping Christmas, so I emptied the bin I have been taking to crops of everything except what I planned to use on the remaining photos. I found I had not kept enough stickers and paper to scrap the photos the way I wanted to. I had simply pulled out too much product. So I have to go back through my supplies and select more for next crop, instead of being able to finish those pages.
I remember one crop weekend I sent some photos over to Walmart to be printed, and I'm not sure why I needed those photos. I don't recall. Typically I have what I need plus some, but I also rarely over pack. I can usually get into a weekend crop in one trip.

I have a checklist that I use and I haven't gone to crops without things other than maybe a punch or stamp I was going to use.
I tend to scrap in batches or groupings. I will pack a bunch of stuff to complete maybe a dozen layouts for a weekend. I'll make sure that I have the kits and everything I want for those pages in my Navigator XXL. Then I will pack another dozen or so kits for the possibility that I'll finish the first dozen layouts. I'll take a tote of stuff back to my vehicle and get the additional kits only if I need them. I just use my vehicle as storage and don't drag it all in at once. If I am just attending a day crop, I'll drag it all in.

Other than taking too many supplies and more photos than I could ever hope to scrap at a retreat...my biggest mistake was forgetting my bag that had my Cameo & my laptop. I would have been out of luck for the 4 day crop because it's 4 hours away from home, but thankfully a friend of a friend was coming a day later and brought it after my DH dropped it off to her. I could have scrapped without the Cameo, but I like having my laptop so I have access to my photos (mostly for the timestamp).

I only went to crops in my beginning days of scrapbooking.
20 something years ago.... Do not, I repeat! >> do not put your box of photos on the roof of the car while you are loading everything up. It was a quick slide down the front window and then a bounce and flip off the hood to the street as I pulled out of my complex. It was one of those fast and slow moments all at the same time, where you realize what is happening and there's nothing you can do to stop it. Thankfully it wasn't windy, and a Police Officer going the opposite way and saw what happened, and he stopped and helped me pick up all my photos.
I laugh about it now, but at the time I was so upset with myself.

Nothing too major other than over packing. My friend once forgot her photos. All the rest of us gave her some of ours and she scrapped some layouts for our books. It’s cool to look thru and see her layouts.

Luckily there was a Walmart about 20 minutes away and they had some adhesive in stock.

Here's my list: travel coffee mug (more than once) snapple bottle a new iphone and most famously an entire leftover sheet cake after my bridal shower. I went back the next day to take a picture of it in the road lol.

They usually have a rack on them so there isn't a good space even if I wanted to. I have put my sunglasses on my hood though. Thankfully I see those right away.

The PictureMate isn’t the issue. It’s the hotel WiFi. Sometimes they have something that blocks, or messes with the connection to the WiFi. Vicki Boutin suggests having a thumb drive that you can download your photos to, and plug it into the printer. She’s had several issues with her’s not working at hotels.

I love my PictureMate too much to scrap without it.
