Hey all, I'm full of questions today! LOL Anyway, I use an app called Collect (it's a photo and daily diary app) and I've been adding a photo and text almost every day since 2013. I updated my iOS finally (from 13.1 to 14.4) and noticed that this app is no longer supported by the developer. It won't back up to my Flickr account anymore and while it is still working on my iPhone and backing up to iCloud, I don't have any way to import the photos anymore to a 3rd party. I'm going to manually copy all the text to Notepad which isn't ideal but at least I won't lose all those memories. So, this leads to my question: what apps are you using as a daily photo collector/diary? I'm also using an email service called Daily Diary where they send you an email and you reply to the email with what you did during the day. I can upload a photo with that but I really liked Collect because it was really easy to scroll through and look at the photos and the memories. EDIT: I can still export to Flickr - it was a total user error on my part! I was trying to export them via the settings screen and not the calendar view screen. I feel like a dodo bird.

Oh no, what?! I use this app for multiple projects. This is disappointing.

Oh no, what?! I use this app for multiple projects. This is disappointing. It hasn't been updated since 2019. I visited the app's website and sent an email via their "contact me" and haven't heard anything back. I'd start backing up your data to Flickr or your photo library on your phone or Dropbox ASAP. I hadn't updated my iOS for over a year and when I did I lost a couple of apps because they were no longer supported.

I update my iOS regularly & haven't noticed. Do you mean you can't export? Sorry, I guess I am confused by what changed. I can still export photos and synch everything.

Do you mean you can't export? Sorry, I guess I am confused by what changed. I can still export photos and synch everything. Sorry, I reread what I wrote and it's not very clear. I had a couple of apps that completely stopped working after I did an iOS update (I hadn't updated my iOS for over a year so I jumped from 13.1 to 14.4) and after doing some research the apps were no longer supported and I lost a bunch of data. The lifespan of this app seems to be over and when iOS updates happen there won't be any more app updates (or at least there hasn't been an update to the app since 2019). I was having problems exporting but I figured out the problem. I'm basically just warning others to make sure they have the data from this app backed up somewhere and verify it's backing up because there's no support for this anymore. Also, I'm looking for an alternative to this because at some point it will be obsolete and not usable.

This actually happened to me once before. There was an app similar to this, that I can't even remember the name of anymore, I used it from 2011-2013 and then it just went dead. That's when I switched to this one. Ugh.

It sounds like you may have sorted things out, but to answer the question of what do I use for daily diary/photo stuff? Day One. You can link it to social media accounts, other things like your FitBit or music I think, it will record the weather when you make an entry if you have location services on, you can save photos and/or text and lots of other stuff that I don't bother with, tag things and search by those tags, search the text (VERY useful when you need to figure out the last time x y or z happened), there's an "on this day" function like Fbk or IG, and you can export entries to publish in book format if you want to. Lots of good stuff! dayoneapp.com/

Another DayOne recommendation. It’s a paid app, but worth it to me. I love the daily memories. Been using it since 2016 and have entered older entries from old planner pages. It also has a Mac desktop app, which I appreciate for journaling when I’ve got a lot to write. And you can separate entries into separate Journals. I also keep my reading entries in its own journal. I used Day One for awhile and did not care for it as much as Collect. Guess I have little choice now. Is there a way to view a calendar in photo format?

I also use Day One and I randomly export entries via a pdf document to my email. You can select the date range, but I just do the whole thing every once in a while, then I figure there is a "backup" somewhere. It includes photos as well in the pdf document.

This is exactly what I'm looking for. I'd love to be able to use it on my Mac and on my iPhone. Thanks!

I have been using Day One since Covid and find it easy to use. I also tried Momento, which has been around for a long time, but prefer Day One.

There is a $2.92 monthly subscription that unlocks a lot of features. You can also pay a lump sum fee but they kind of hide that option these days.

I have a yearly sub through Apple, I think it was $24 a year, but that may be the grandfathered plan/price according to this chart, or the price might've gone up since last time my sub renewed - it seems to be $35 a year now. help.dayoneapp.com/en/articles/1045018-day-one-pricing-features-guide I got the paid version to have multiple journals - I have one for my Christmas journal entries, one for OLW, one that I've digitized (imported files or dictated) old letters and journals into, and one that pulls in all my Instagram posts - plus having as many photos as I wanted per entry was important to me, and I think the way it syncs/backs up between all my devices was a premium feature. Journaling this way has worked out really well and it's important to me so the yearly fee is pretty good value (especially because this replaced a lot of my PL-style scrapbooking and hobonichi journaling, which wasn't working for me and cost a bunch).

I somehow have a "plus" account that I don't pay for. I've had it so long, I'm not sure exactly what happened, but I think I paid for it when it was starting out (sort of like a kickstarter) but do not have to pay now. I don't really remember what happened, but I know I do not pay monthly.

I downloaded Day One (available on Android!) cuz of this discussion and have been pleasantly surprised by how much I like it. While I'm not a big journaler I've always wanted to do better and struggled with a system. Social media was too public, paper/notebook wasn't always accessible when I wanted to write, and a blank doc was too *blank*. This app is perfect for me photos + writing (or not) and little details like automatically noting the date, time and location or can use a photo's info for the entry. I've just been using the free version but once I get my new phone may pony up for the year. Love the idea of using different journals for different projects (D/WITL, DD) or different people (like my kids) or different goals (reading, exercise).
Thanks peas for the recommendation!
