my husband had a compound, shattered lower leg injury.. at first put together with rods and pins 35 yrs ago. medicine has come a long way. he had transplanted muscles and a new artery.. and though over the years they tried everything, this last go around 5 yrs with his second muscle transplant "solved" his issues. he has drop foot, so has to use a cane or walking poles. he is not allowed to ski. but his surgeon basically said he can do what he wants and he often goes on 3-5 mile hikes all over. so tiger should be able to recover and may very possibly be able to golf again since golfing requires standing.. and can take a cart around a course.Ummm what?!?!? A golf drive involves a huge amount of torsion on the lower legs. It isn't standing at all. And as a later poster mentioned, professionals are not allowed to use carts - although ironically Tiger Wood's old Stanford roommate did take a case all the way to the Supreme Court to allow a cart for his disability so I imagine it's a possibility, but really it will be way more about the impact on his swing than walking the course. Agreed. A key part of the swing is your stance. I assume since Casey was successful with the SC about carts it would be a nonissue for Tiger, right? I’m not sure Tiger would compete if it involved using a cart though.

No one mentioned his Ambien use for an aphrodisiac...or did I imagine that? Did newscasts talk about that? Good for him that he has a private life to have some fun and indulge. I hope he will be able to resume his career and a tragic accident.

DH is often at this location (refereeing at Peninsula HS games). He says that it is very steep. Other friends who live in PVE and Rolling Hills say the same. I agree as I've driven this road to above-mentioned places. Many accidents due to the location.
IDK about them transferring him to Cedars because there are other Level 1 Trauma hospitals in the area, not that it wouldn't be a bad thing. (I was at Cedars today, and there weren't any helicopters hovering when this thing usually happens.)

I'm surprised he's still at Harbor UCLA. On my way to lunch I noticed all the news vans were still there. Choppers too but not all day.

One of the best things I've done in the past two years is move my mom from Pittsburgh to assisted living near me here in Virginia. Obviously the main reason it's good is that she's right nearby. But the secondary reason is that I DO NOT HAVE TO DRIVE THE PA TURNPIKE!! ever again! No more fog in Somerset. No more ice in Somerset. No more sleet/rain in Somerset. No more snow in Somerset. If I ever want to drive to Pittsburgh I will at least do it IN THE SUMMER! omg Yes! That's great that your mom is near you now. When my oldest was at Univ. of Maryland (my alma mater), I ran into fog all the time in the Bedford, Somerset area. Or snow! My friend would tease me that every time I went I ran into bad weather. And all the tractor trailers. I am a nervous wreck on the turnpike! I don't know what's worse, the crazy beltway drivers in DC area or the weather and geography in southwestern PA.
Arg, I have driven that turnpike many times in fog, rain and snow, and it can be a bear. The fog in the area east of Breezewood was always a bit scary. One time, long ago, I left after work, heading east toward Virginia. It was a dark, rainy night, and I ran out of windshield washer fluid. It got difficult to see, and of course there were a lot of huge trucks passing and spraying my windshield. I was in my 20s, and it hadn’t occurred to me that this could be a problem. I was terrified. I was so relieved when I got to Breezewood and could get more washer fluid. I have never traveled that turnpike since without checking my washer fluid. Lesson learned.

I thought this article about Tiger Woods’ injuries was interesting. It would be great if he could golf again, but it sounds like it will be a challenge for him to walk again. Tiger woods

I was just reading the same article in the Boston Globe. Sounds like he may be very lucky to walk again. That's a lot of trauma in one leg.

While the media sure seemed to act as if he had died during the first few hours of reporting, I think this accident was far more serious than some think. It does sound like he’s lucky to be alive and will be lucky if he can walk again.
I wonder how the Genesis (Hyundai’s luxury line...actually a separate company/division now) feel about the fact that he was driving one of their cars, loaned to him because they’re sponsoring the event he was participating in. The car did exactly what it was supposed to, the air bags deployed and it crushed in the right places but held the frame around the driver for protection.

the doctor my husband ended up with --his speciality is "limb salvage". my husband thinks the biggest challenge for tiger will be keeping a functional foot. but there is so much they can do these days.. cut out bone and grow more, deal with the infections, muscle transplants, artery transplants...
my husband was one of the doctor's most challenging cases ever.

if i were him, i would be happy just to be able to walk again. my bigger concern is pain management. he hasn't done well with it in the past. these injuries compound his need for pain meds so i hope he has a good support system for dealing with that.

"The Los Angeles County sheriff said detectives have determined what caused Tiger Woods to crash his SUV last month in Southern California but declined Wednesday to release details, citing unspecified privacy concerns for the golf star. Woods suffered serious injuries in the Feb. 23 crash when he struck a raised median around 7 a.m. in Rolling Hills Estates, just outside Los Angeles. The Genesis SUV he was driving crossed through two oncoming lanes and uprooted a tree on a downhill stretch that police said is known for wrecks. Woods is in Florida recovering from multiple surgeries. Sheriff Alex Villanueva has been criticized for his comments about the crash, calling it “purely an accident” and saying there was no evidence of impairment. Woods told deputies he did not know how the crash occurred and didn’t remember driving. He was unconscious when a witness first approached the mangled SUV. A sheriff's deputy said the athlete later appeared to be in shock but was conscious and able to answer basic questions. Investigators did not seek a search warrant for Woods' blood samples, which could be screened for drugs and alcohol. In 2017, Woods checked himself into a clinic for help in dealing with prescription drug medication after a DUI charge in his home state of Florida. Detectives, however, did obtain a search warrant for the data recorder of the 2021 Genesis GV80 SUV, known as a black box. Villanueva would not say Wednesday what data had been recovered from the black box. “A cause has been determined, the investigation has concluded,” Villanueva said during a live social media event Wednesday. Villanueva claimed investigators need permission from Woods — who previously named his yacht “Privacy” — to make public information about the crash. “We have reached out to Tiger Woods and his personnel," Villanueva said. "There's some privacy issues on releasing information on the investigation so we're going to ask them if they waive the privacy and then we will be able to do a full release on all the information regarding the accident.”" abcnews.go.com/Sports/wireStory/detectives-find-tiger-woods-crash-reveal-76796020

"Giacalone said it's unlikely that deputies would have sought the permission of non-celebrity victims in similar crashes to release information.
If the sheriff's hesitancy stemmed from a potential medical episode behind the wheel, Giacalone said authorities could simply have simply said it was a medical emergency without giving additional details."

Giacalone said it's unlikely that deputies would have sought the permission of non-celebrity victims in similar crashes to release information. The same accident with a non-celebrity behind the wheel would barely have made local news, much less national. Even saying it was a medical emergency without further details would spin up an insane media frenzy.

Of course we do, though. I just don't see the point in releasing the information. If there is no risk to public safety and no one else was harmed, what is the benefit? None that I can see, other than satisfying public curiosity about a famous person. For a normal person, they may not ask permission to release, but they also likely wouldn't release anything because there would not be media asking about it.

If we don't release for a rich and famous person, then don't release for anyone else either. Whether or not people have a "curiosity" about them shouldn't determine who has what rights under the law.

Did I read that right? They didn't test his blood for drugs or alcohol? I don't know what "Investigators did not seek a search warrant for Woods' blood samples" means.
If that's true, then woooooooow

Because they didn't see it as a DUI DWI, they did not get labs.

He was held and is being held to entirely different standards than Joe Schmo would be.

I'm originally from SWPA and now live in the DC area. I have no problem driving the beltway (on Thanksgiving because there is 0 traffic) up to PA and back the same way; Christmas, it depends on the weather. We usually do the beltway up 70 and 270 on the way there, but the return trip depends on two things: weather and time of day. If we leave in the early afternoon, we'll do the non-turnpike route, but if it's going to be 3 or later when we leave, we'll do the turnpike just because I feel it's better lit and safer than the mountain route. (That is, when we go up for holidays. We did a whirlwind 14 hour visit for Thanksgiving and stayed home for Christmas last year. And it was SO relaxing to stay home for once for Christmas because my parents and father in law live about 40 minutes apart, and it's just so much driving that it's not relaxing some of the time anyway.)

If that's true, then woooooooow They may have gotten them through other avenues. The hospital would have run drug/alcohol labs as a master of course to treat him. He may have given permission for those to be released or they may have subpoenaed the results. Or they may have not gotten labs because there wasn’t any indication drugs/ alcohol were involved. The lack of a search warrant doesn’t mean anything

I do think the public has a right to know if there was a mechanical issue with the vehicle. If there was none they should have stated that loud and clear. Other people own and drive that vehicle with and without children in it.
BTW: Joe Schmo would have been tested for drugs and alcohol.

The hospital cannot release labs or do blood testing for the purposes of determining impaired driving without a search warrant. There was a case in Utah where a police officer actually arrested a nurse for failure to authorize a blood draw on a patient without a search warrant. Obviously the policeman was in error and I think he lost his job because of it.
The labs for the purpose of impairment or not need to be done separately with an officer present at the time of the draw.
