UPDATE PIC ON PAGE 3 I collect bags.. I came to the realization that it doesn't matter if it is a Walmart plastic bag or a Gucci bag.. I love bags.
I am deep cleaning my craft room and I have a bag (one of those birthday gift bags) full of other bags for whatever occasion. Some are pretty old like from past baby showers. My youngest is 12. I did put them to good use... I used them to put stuff in to donate to ARC or Goodwill. So I feel like I got use of those. So that set of bags are under control... at least no more baby shower or kiddy birthday ones.
Then canvas or like those kind.. I love them... I don't even know how many I have... Great for overnight or something like that. But really how many does one person need??
Then the recyclable grocery store kind, usually .99 cents.. so many cute designs. I love those for obviously groceries (and I forget them all the time), but to carry stuff between my kids houses or my in-laws. My DH uses them to carry all his stuff to his truck (he drives over the road).
Plain old "walmart" bags for the TON of poop my St. Bernard leaves me... not that I love those kind, but I certainly do use them... haha
And purses.. I don't have a ton of them, but I love them.. I might have five.. and change it twice a year. More expensive ones of course last me years.
AND the reason for this post.. my sister just sent me a message, her friend bought a bag and was showing it off and my sister is like "OMG my sister would love this". Price was right and I will get it tomorrow. I am giddy!!!
EDITED to add.. those IKEA big blue bags... I LOVE those for lots of stuff...even to use as a giant trash bag

I suffer from the same affliction. Somehow, I can't seem to part with bags. "OH, this is a great bag. You never know when you might need one like this. Better save it."

I have a thing about bags too. One year a local group was collecting reusable bags to put together care packages for local homeless people, so I was finally able to rid myself of over 1/2 of my reusable grocery bags. Congrats on the new bag!

WHY?! 🤷♀️😄 I haven't been to IKEA in a long time.. so I haven't seen the rainbow ones..... no no no.. I don't need to drive an hour to IKEA for a rainbow bag or four. lol

I got mine in June so I don't know if they are still there, workingclassdog, but in my mind, a trip to IKEA is always a good idea!! 😄

I have the same problem. And boxes. When we moved me to CA from LA after our wedding, I moved boxes of empty (flattened) gift) boxes. DH was not amused. On the flip side, I have never needed to buy a gift box in my entire life.

Me too. Addicted to Kate Spade, I finally donated about 90% of my makeup type bags (along with the bins of sample size shampoo/soap/etc (to a woman’s shelter) also passed on a bunch of backpacks/gym bags
I am always buying cloth shopping bags (my fav is the PRIDE one from our provincial liquor store), also a huge Peppa Pig one for M&S....

OMG - When I read the title of this post I thought - "someone is talking about me". I have sooo many bags, I've been trying to control myself. Luckily this past year with limited outings, that has helped. I inherited this "problem" from my Aunt who also was a bag hoarder. When she passed away a number of years ago and we were cleaning out her home, I found a huge stash of plastic shopping bags from department stores. Remember when they gave out plastic bags? Well, I was in heaven when I found these bags. I actually busted-out crying since it made me realize where I got my "problem" from. I still have this huge stash, most of the stores long closed, so I feel like they are collectable!!! LOL Ahhhh memories. workingclassdog Don't forget to post a picture of your NEW BAG tomorrow ! LOL

It would seem I have found my people and heard their call. Also, that I must go to Ikea for rainbow bags.

Move to CT. Here we get charged 10 cents a bag (cheap, flimsy plastic or paper)! That will quickly cure you of part of your bag hoarding.

I’ve been married for almost 10 years and just recently got rid of all of the wedding gift bags we received, we are finally out of the wedding stage of life for the most part. Just to get a TON of baby gift bags.

I keep these stored in a hat box on the floor of our entry closet, folded and stored upright by approximate size. And I use them when I need to run an errand or I am bringing something to someone. It’s a fun bright spot and I don’t need to worry about getting the bag back. eta: I do that with plastic store bags I’m not in love with (not grocery bags) and other promotional bags as well. I just forgot because I haven’t gotten any bags in ages and I don’t have any more of these to use for this purpose.

I'm guilty too. So many of the recyclable bags, because of the Peas I have Trader Joes city bags. Sainsbury and Tesco bags from my trip to the UK. Michael Kors bags which I've never used or some have only been used once. Vera Bradley totes. I did have a clear out a few weeks ago but still have more that I will ever use

They do tend to accumulate when you aren't looking! I've taken a space-based approach to our bags.
Moved our gift wrap to a wide Alex drawer, and limited the gift bags to just 2 drawers. Large in one, small/medium in another, and I mostly kept birthday, with only a couple wedding/baby.
Grocery/shopping bags live in the cars - they go right back out, or realistically, hang on the garage door handle after we put things away. I know what an average grocery shop is, so I keep 3 refrigerated and 3 standard bags inside a grocery bag, in each car. And then some larger bags for Target.
During normal times, I rotate between 5-8 bags a year (work and handbag) and love small leather items. Right now I'm only using a crossbody bag and wallet/key combo that are both easily wiped down and not likely to be damaged by hand sanitizer. I'm carrying a lot less.
Debating what to do with the rest of my bags - they aren't wasting space in my closet, but they're getting dusty and I don't see that changing for quite some time.

I had the same issue. I kept every gift bag ever received in my household. When we moved, I thought to myself "Will you ever need 100 (or more) gifts bags"? The answer was absolutely not! LOL So when we had our moving sale, I opened a large bags, put some med and small bags inside each one and sold them for 5.00. They were one of the first things to go and I made a good bit of money! Obviously other people have bag issues too. Grocery bags I reuse for trash bags in bathrooms and my craft room, so I don't have a ton of those because I use my reusable bags until I run short on the plastic grocery bags. Handbags/purses... again, when we moved, I sold/donated all the bags that weren't designer (I only have a few, as I'm also a cheapskate) or a couple I absolutely love. We live in a smaller home now, so I just don't have the space to store everything I used to, and I don't want to leave my kids with a bunch of "stuff" to get rid of should I kick the bucket. If a new bag comes in....an old one goes out. I look lovingly at allllll the bags though.

I have a few spaces for bags. Once they are full, I get rid of old ones. Now I have other collections of things that are a bit out of hand, but bags isn't one of them. At least not yet.

I have a thing for paper bags with handles. Not gift bags, those I toss. But just brown paper bags with handles you get from stores. I even very carefully folded them flat and put them in my luggage to bring home from Europe.
Target used to have the best paper bags. Good size and sturdy handles. But I haven't seen them in a long time.

I love bags too! I keep the ziplock style bags that I get little stuff from amazon in because they have the 'zipper' closure on them! I have a half baked theory that women have a uterus so our love of bags is tied to that. Half baked at best. We recently (as in this week) decided to move houses and that has my brain spinning about all of the things I need to get rid of. Near the top of the list will be all of the bags that I've collected and never use. Here is a good tip though- instead of cheap paper gift bags, I've been getting those thin plastic-y ones from Dollar Tree to put gifts in. They're only $1 and are much better than paper because they won't fall apart nearly as fast. They even have some cute designs on them! (You're welcome!)

Me, too. And I have more IKEA bags than a normal person would to use I I bought to move instead of hard tubs for many things. For now they are in my downstairs storage area all stored in, of course, one of the IKEA bags. I have zipper ones and some open. Since curbside pickup many more grocery bags have collected than ever before. I have pared them down though, when I get them accumulating again I put then in my ongoing donate box as those stores like to get and use them. Trying to be better. I also rid myself of the boxes collection before the move. Now I just have a few moving boxes, broke down and stored flat. Vicious circle, it is.
