I unexpectedly got a shingles shot today. Ha. I knew I was getting it about 3 minutes before I got it. I got the old shot in 2015 and was asking about a booster for that shot. Nope. You get the new shingles shot and another one in 6 months.
I don't think I have ever had a shot/vaccine that I could actually feel going into my body. Kind of weird. I know people have different reactions to this, and I normally wouldn't even think twice about it, but tomorrow morning I am judging a socially distanced speech competition. Hoping I feel fine tomorrow morning.
Anyone want to share their experience for their first shot?

The Shingrix is two shots. Other than a slight lump where I was shot I had no side effects from either shot. Neither did my husband.

Nothing that day
Day after arm pain more than any other shot, couldn’t lift my arm above my head for days. And tiredness and a head ache the next day.
The second shot same thing, nothing that day. Then the next day arm pain, same tiredness, no head ache but I itched everywhere the entire next day. But then I was fine.

Just don't go for you Covid vaccine for a while. I forget how long you need to wait.

Just don't go for you Covid vaccine for a while. I forget how long you need to wait. It’s 2 weeks between vaccines. For my first Shingrix shot, I ran a fever by the end of the day. I was fine by the next morning except that I was a little achey. I know I took it easy that day. This sort of reaction is pretty normal for me with a vaccine.

Both doses of the Shingrix had me running a 102 degree fever for two days, feeling crappy, and then I felt fine. It was still worlds better than the last time I had shingles.
My mom didn’t have any reaction to either of her doses, so hopefully you are one of those who don’t have a strong response.

The second Shingrix shot laid me low. I had a fever for about 24 hours and felt lousy. I felt fine after that, and happy that I'd be much less likely to have shingles!

Anyone want to share their experience for their first shot? First shot my arm got really sore, red and hot. Kept an eye on it and it went away within 3 days. Red area never changed,I did feel nauseous about a day later. Second...nothing other than a little sore of an arm.

With both shots the area around the shot was red and itchy. It lasted awhile, but a pharmacist suggested Benadryl cream, which helped a lot. I didn’t have any other reactions.

I got the 'old' shingles vaccine in 2014ish. It was a 2 shot regime. I don't remember any reactions, other than a sore arm with either injection.
Now there is a newer vaccine. $300.00 if I want it now or $0.00 if I wait until I am 65. This is in Ontario, Canada. Our "free healthcare" does NOT include medication unless given in-conjunction with a hospital stay, then OHIP will pay. (there are always special situations that I won't get into)
My tetanus booster was free and was given in the Dr. office as it is a mandatory(?) vaccine, under Ontario Public Health & Health Canada.
NOW -- I have just had a mild(er)case of shingles, on the left side of my face, a bit higher than my eye, but right where the hairline starts, going down the side of my face.
Found out tonight that the Covid-19 vaccine for my age group won't be until July!

I got my first dose of Shingrix last Thursday. Ugh! I couldn’t lift my arm, I’m a side sleeper and could t sleep on that side for 2 nights and even Friday it hurt to turn the steering wheel. Most of Friday and definitely Friday night I felt like I had the flu, achy, tired and just didn’t feel good. Saturday afternoon I felt 100% back to normal except my arm was still a little bit sore.
I am not looking forward to the 2nd shot.

The one I got in 2015 was also around $300 at the time, but my healthcare paid for it if I was 50. My good friend, 47, got shingles last month and really suffered for a mild case. It just made me want a more effective vaccination. Thankfully my PA found an extra shot in the building to give me. I have to go back in August for the second shot. I had a staph infection in 2013 and it was in and above my eye. That experience made me a bit more proactive about all my vaccinations.

I got my shot last Friday afternoon. By evening my arm was very sore. The next morning I went out for a bit thinking I was going to escape all the other side effects. By lunchtime I was feeling pretty bad. I was tired and had no energy. Got in pajamas and watched TV. Was fine by the next morning. My arm was sore until yesterday.

I can handle a sore arm, but flu like symptoms while judging a speech contest with hot flashes in a mask are just not things I look forward to. My boss had a really rough time with both shots (she's 70, so that might have complicated things).

I got the original shingles shot a few years ago. I only had a slightly sore area where the shot was given.
January 2020, I received the first Shingrex shot. Once again, just a sore spot where I got the shot. Received the second shot early April 2020. Once again, same thing just a minor sore area. If I remember correctly, I think the area did seem a bit warm. But the pain was pretty minimal.
I have now received both of my Covid shots and I did really well with those too.

I just had some residual arm soreness from the first Shingrix shot. Hoping the second will be as easy.

I had the first Shingrix shot about a month ago. No ill effects except a bit of a sore arm. I've heard the second can be rough. I'm just more concerned about spacing the second one out with the COVID vaccine, which I become eligible to register for on Monday.

I was feverish and felt yucky after both shots. I took them over weekends.

My arm is already starting to feel better. My older pup decided to snuggle up next to me and just put his head lightly on my arm. He left it there for about an hour. He must be magical.

I've heard the second one is worse for some. I haven't been sick (other than a staph infection in 2013) for at least 10-12 or so years, so I am hoping this one just moves along and plays nice.

My arm was tender for two days with both of my two Covid vaccines but it ached with both shingles shots. I was sick for three days both times with the Shingrix shot (muscle aches, headache, chills, fever). While I was miserable, it is far better than getting shingles. My SIL had shingles for nearly three months and she was in agony.

Then one of my good friends, 47, got shingles. It was a pretty mild case by shingles standards, and it knocked her down. I thought why would I not just get a good vaccine and know that while I still could get it, chances are it would be much less severe.

The first one I had flu like symptoms and fever and a very sore and red arm. The second one really kicked my butt. The same reaction but a whole lot worse. It was the same for my DH. My mom had no side effects from either shot and my brother only had a reaction to the second one. It’s still better than having the shingles though.

And the speech competition has been postponed. We already have a good 4 inches of snow tonight and they are doing learning tomorrow.
Thanks for all of your responses.

Actually the second shot is supposed to be between 2 and 6 months. My arm felt like a sledgehammer hit it but ice packs worked wonders. I haven't gotten the second shot yet. That is in March.

They scheduled mine for exactly 6 months later. My arm is sore this morning, but I can lay on my side. We got a good 7-8 inches of snow, so I am sure it will get loosened up this a.m. when I shovel. Thankfully the snow is perfect powder. You can see the individual snowflakes in the snow.
