You know they found something. I’ve had a pain on my left side. Started pretty minor about two weeks ago. Teleappointment last week with the doctor. He gave me muscle relaxer to start. Saw him in person today as the pain has escalated beyond a 10 at times. He sent me for X-rays and ct scan. The technician walked me back to the room and said schedule the ct scan ASAP and I will stat this report to your doctor. That’s was 6pm this evening. Tomorrow should be interesting.

That's got to be nerve wracking and I know it's hard not to worry. It sounds like they are moving on it quickly and I hope you have some answers soon.

Hopefully it’s a good thing and they can figure out the source of your pain much more quickly. I hope that in the meanwhile you’ve got something to help with the pain. Beyond a 10 sounds absolutely awful.

I just can't believe what we, the general public, have to put up with as patients. I hope it is something very easily remedied.

I just can't believe what we, the general public, have to put up with as patients. I hope it is something very easily remedied. As a nurse, I wonder what you think should be done differently here? Sounds like they're moving as quickly as possible to get her some answers, personally walked her back and told her he was sending information to the doctor, etc. Should he not call in a colleague? Should he say nothing? Because he can't tell her what he doesn't know and he's not a doctor. I get that it's scary not knowing--I went through a similar time with some imaging and eventually was diagnosed with breast cancer--but honestly, what could they do to please you?

I work in healthcare too. I know this is not addressed by the corporations that run things and there is no money for it but I feel like no one "in charge" stops to think or explain to the patient anything. When my MIL got her tactical biopsy they had a survivor volunteer person there to help her. I've been traumatized by my medical care at times over the years and I have also had good experiences and the contrast is pretty jarring. I don't exactly stalk you but I admire you on this board- it seems like you are someone who fills this gap and I am too. I think health care needs more of this to be truly caring. But it is not something that is a priority. You cannot bill for compassion....And I think it increases suffering. I think we- the general we - can do better. But I often am too Hopeful of what humanity can achieve.

But I often am too Hopeful of what humanity can achieve. Awww... Thank you. I try even when I'm not feeling it. I work with some fantastic people and have been lucky to have mostly compassionate and kind colleagues for my whole career (a few bad apples, but not many). I always try to be honest with a patient when I can, even if that means admitting I don't know the answer or that more tests are needed, why we're doing them, and what we hope to find out from the tests and when we might expect to have the test results. Also just some therapeutic listening can work wonders. I'm off to bed after a long shift, thank you for the reminder to always give my best. PS we actually do get training on empathy/kindness, one class every year, I have to say my employer really does foster caring and compassion. Of course it's lost in some people and most don't particularly learn this from one class, but they're trying. It uses the Cleveland model or something like that. With Covid, the class group sessions were put on hold.

So tough when you need to wait. I had a similar experience and the not knowing is the worst. Hope you got some sleep last night and that today brings answers you can deal with.
Sending you lots of strength to deal with what ever comes next .

Sending good thoughts your way! It’s hard when the technician sees something but can’t comment on it or give you any feedback.
I had to take my kid in for a CT scan on her sinuses and for the first one they left me out in the hall and didn’t say anything and it was so frustrating having to wait for the doctor to get the results and then wait longer for him to get back to me. For the second followup scan, the technician let me go in the room with him and watch the screen as she was getting her scan. He couldn’t tell me anything but at least that one I kind of knew what I was looking at so it was a relief that I didn’t have to wait to see the scans at the clinic.
