Good for her! It's nice when things start to fall into place and you can start making some decisions.
This has been kind of a hard year for making college visits and decisions. My daughter had narrowed it down to two schools. Her sister attended another college in this area, so she was very familiar with the area and enjoyed visiting there. She did self guided tours last August with a friend because we couldn't get in for scheduled tours. Both schools would be fine for her major. They cost about the same. She liked both campuses. The schools are about a ten minute drive from each other. One school has an enrollment of about 14,000 and the other is 5,000. She didn't know what to do and started fretting that perhaps she would make a wrong choice even though both would be fine. The cities where the schools are located were a bit of a Covid mess all fall and early winter, so you didn't feel great about doing visits then. I had her do online visits and the smaller school did such a good job giving advice and guiding her through the online map. It felt like a real tour. She was so glad to have a reason to choose a school rather than just picking one. Our kids have had such a shitty senior year. I really want them to have a good college experience.

Congratulations to your daughter, how exciting for her!
You said it's a local college, and then you mentioned on-campus housing, so I guess it's still too far from home for her to live at home?

Congratulations to your daughter, how exciting for her! You said it's a local college, and then you mentioned on-campus housing, so I guess it's still too far from home for her to live at home? With the craziness of the music major schedule and the traffic in Houston, it’s really not feasible for her to live at home.

Still, it must be nice to have both girls so close to home.

Congratulations to her for her success, and to YOU for being able to rest easier at night! LOL it's great that she has chosen a career, too. My senior has heard back on exactly half of her applications (all good news). She'll hear from two more tomorrow, and the rest will come at the end of the month or early April. Even if she gets no more acceptances, it will already be a hard choice. Not being able to visit has been terrible - the schools are in seven different states.

Congratulations to your daughter! I know a couple of students in the program I think you’re talking about. My daughter saw one recently and said she’s loving it.

Younger DD has been accepted to the music programs at all the schools where she applied. We are thrilled and grateful! Her top two choices were a large, prestigious program at a school five hours away, and our local large state university, which also has a highly regarded music program. She’s tentatively decided on the local program, which is smaller, and she feels she’ll have more attention and opportunity as an undergrad than she would at the larger school. Then she got a letter from the local school last night offering her a very substantial music scholarship. We’re so proud and excited! I used to be a music advisor at this school, and I know the level of scholarship they’ve offered means she is likely their top recruit for her instrument in this class. We believe she’ll also get an academic scholarship from this school, so even better. Unless the other school comes back with some crazy scholarship amount, she is likely to go ahead and accept this offer. I’m so happy and grateful that she can be so close while still having this great opportunity. Oh, and it’s the same school her sister attends. We’ve joked with them about sharing on-campus housing, but that idea was met with a resounding “no!” from both. 😂 Exciting!

I never regretted having our kids "close" when they went to college (1.5 hours away, by car). Our twins went to different colleges in the same town and put their collective feet down when we suggested they room together. We would have considered buying a condo, if that were the case. But, it was time for them to have their own lives, like any other singleton college kids, so they lived apart. They did hang out with each other, though...
