kendramage, I can think of three Lutheran churches that serve lutefisk and meatball dinners. Very Swedish and Norwegian areas. Yep, every fall they have the lutefisk and meatball dinners. But it's not something you can order from a restaurant. I think the have some at the Swedish institute, and there is a trendy restaurant in think in the west suburbs that have Scandinavian foods, meatballs, but not lutefisk. blech

Well you're next to Iowa and Wisconsin, you're already in the land of delicious foods (as long as you steer clear of church potlucks!).
Drive down to Dubuque IA, tons of quaint restaurants and brew pubs. Drive further south to Davenport and get you some Rudy's tacos, Whitey's ice cream, Jim's ribs, Hungry Hobo deli sandwiches, and the best: Harris Pizza, QC style pizza. When you know, you know. Plenty of brew pubs and nice places to eat also on both sides of the river (IL/IA). The Blackhawk Hotel is a great place to stay.
ETA i forgot Happy Joe's pizza and probably some other places like the Iowa Machine Shed, Maid Rite, the Filling Station, too many excellent authentic Mexican restaurants to list but especially Azteca!

I was going to suggest the Cincinnati area too. I grew up there and always have to have a few locals when I get back in the area. including: Skyline Chili, LaRosa's pizza, Graeters Ice Cream. and Montgomery Inn Ribs. I'm sure there are others as well.

Gotcha...so maybe more religiously affiliated, if they are served at church? I was thinking restaurants...for my crew and I, being mostly vegetarian/vegan and French Canadian rather than Swedish/Norwegian it's just probably not on my radar. I can't think of a restaurant that serves it. 😆🤢

OK, this Minnesotan will say, if we are known for anything, it would be hot dish, goulash, whatever you want to call it. I am pretty sure that is not what you are looking for. but not in restaurants. You don't go out to eat for those things!! blech!! LOL Not in restaurants, but any church function and there are at least 20 versions of it.

We could certainly do a long weekend in Iowa. We have been to Toppling Goliath, love their Dorothy.

I was born in MN but have lived in So. Cal. Most of my life. We try to get back every summer and everyone who comes to the cabin brings me Old Dutch Dill Pickle potato chips - I eat so many my mouth hurts! And cheese curds! I was raised in North Dakota and I've lived away longer than I lived there but my entire family knows to bring me Old Dutch DP chips when they visit. The Lays version are just not as good.

I've read about Hot Dish for years here. Time to try an authentic one! We love road trips. My family suggested Runza for you, if you are interested in an Omaha trip. Life there was before my time, but it is in your driving range. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RunzaI will definitely research the area. Love telling people we are going to some odd place for vacation. We look for the unique and have not been disappointed yet.

I am sure there may be one or two of us that would gladly let you do a "taste of Minnesota"
