I'm planning on doing WITL the week of April 25. I would have done it the same week as AE but I'm going on a multi day bike ride halfway through the week and want to document that on it's own. The April 25 week is good for me, as I work Sunday and Monday and then return to home for the rest of the week. (I work out of town a week at a time.)
I bought the AE kit, the houses, and the working stamp. I will use the 1 or 2 houses on the WITL, the other houses will work well for the "Pieces of Home" project. I plan to scrap pictures of my house in all four seasons and from over the 21 years we've lived here.

Neither of this year’s kits appealed to me. I liked the colors of Ali’s but have an irrational hate of diamonds. The other kit was too monotone for me. I bought a few stamp sets and the album kit from HSN. This will be my first time doing WITL. Haha! Same! Not a fan of diamonds. Or triangles. But give me all the hexagons!

Does anyone find that some of the week is sort of “staged”? Not actual staging but like doing things you were not planning to do that week, but do it that week so you have more/better photos?
I have only tried WITL once before, and I failed miserably because 1. I did not keep it simple and 2. I struggled with the photos. I had more paper than photos (mostly).

I did it last year and I am so thankful I did, because both boys were home from College because of Covid and now one is still at home (in college, but living here because of Covid) and one is now in the Army and about to move to Hawaii. Never again will I have both my kids under the same roof like we did last year. I flipped through my album from last year and the only thing that could be considered 'planned' was that I took a photo of gas prices (left the house intentionally for that photo) and I took more photos than normal. I had photos of a ladybug I found, going to get the mail, dinner outside, picking up on son from work when he couldn't drive, people taking naps, people playing video games, people playing with the dogs. None of the photos were super but they were '2020'. I had DH at home so *I* am actually in the album so that's nice as well, as usually I don't have a willing photographer. I did keep mine simple. I made a formula and stuck to it. Every day had a 6x8 page protector, a quote card, a gratitude card and then journaling using Ali's prompts from her digital kit. I figured out ahead of time I needed between 1-3 photos a day. If I had more, awesome. But I could snap 1-3 easily. Also? I snapped a couple of photos ahead of time when my bedroom was clean. LOL I knew I wanted to include a photo of my bedroom as I had been spending so much time there while at home. I also used screenshots of Netflix shows we had been watching so that took up some photo space as well. I am actually really glad I pulled out last years album. Im excited to do this again.

I will "stage" some photos like remove a bunch of dirty dishes from a shot. But in reality I just try and take a ton of photos to have lots to pick from. I tend to be super gung ho for the first 4 days then the photos tend get fewer and far between. This project tends to be a good boost for taking more photos and gets be excited to scrapbook again. I went through my older albums and I still love them. This year will be different because I'm now working from home in a different job plus both of my kids will be home from university. I love the contrast from year to year.

I think that comes with any documenting project but we're just not necessarily aware of it. Same goes for December Daily where some of us will go out of our way to get a seasonal Starbucks drink, dress up the kids in matching PJs or set the table extra nice. For the photos, for the album! I'd see it more as an excuse (or motivation) to do some things we might consider a bit of a hassle or over the top in "normal" times. Just like you'd get your roots done before a family gathering (in non-pandemic times) or tidy the living room before a friend drops by.

I am just going to work on not to over think it, and just take more photos.

I definitely see myself "staging" things sometimes... kitchen is clean? Photo time! And text my boyfriend to buy some flowers to make it extra pretty. Made the bed? Let's clear off the water glasses from the headboard... photo time! Otherwise I take as many 'normal life' photos as I can, and honestly just when I think about it. This year I'm hoping to use the week to motivate myself to clear out our backyard and get it ready for Summer and swimming. Thinking I'll be more inclined to do it if I have a before/after shot and a reason for doing it lol I don't normally use special coffee mugs but you bet your butt I use them during the holidays for cute DD pictures I think doing these very-specific-moment-in-time type of books lends itself to setting up shots I wouldn't usually do. --- I also got a shipping notif this morning! Seems quick, maybe because I only grabbed a few small things.

Ah fuck. President Macron is announcing we're in national lockdown again for several weeks. Four to begin with but I fear it may turn out to be 6 to 8 like last spring. ETA: Yeah, he just said we'd start reopening the country slowly mid-May. Merde.
I can't do WITL in 40 m²/430 sq ft. I did a lockdown album inside last year but I cannot take the same photos all over again. Save my sanity. Anyhoo, whatever it takes to no get infected or die or suffer long Covid, right?
Still: ah fuck.

I was browsing for some B&W lineal icons for this project and came across this pack (NSFW). Well, ladies, it looks like it's going to be a hot month of May this year... #tagyourself I needed these for week in the life and didn’t even know it. Thanks for making me giggle today.

sleepingbooty, you should do it but make everything exactly the same. Like 7 pics of you eating breakfast in the same spot. 7 pics of you gazing out the window hoping to go out. 7 pics of you walking by the sneakers you don’t need to put on because you are going no where. Only your sweatpants will change. Maybe. I’m kind of digging this idea. I may steal it for my formula. I don’t do much.

I like your idea of recording the flow of the unchanged passing of time! A time capsule in which the focus is on time appearing to stand still in a way. Hmm, let me think this over! Ohhh jeeze. That sucks. Can you do a updated version of your lockdown? See whats the same/different? Or use a different lens? Like listening, doing, watching, etc? mom Dare I admit almost nothing has changed? Same sheets on the bed (I'm washing them, no worries), same cushions on the sofa, same types of food in the fridge, same placemats on the table, same haircuts (hey, I've gotten better at it after a year of practice!), same candle holders on the chimney mantle, same clothes in the closet. I see no difference between this spring and last spring besides the new Netflix shows or songs on my workout playlist. I've been living in this bubble since the first week of March 2020. No garden to plant some new flowers or veggies, no courtyard to hang out in, it's just us two and these walls... Fuck, it's a long nothingland. I want a little bit of my life back, just a little bit.

I wasn't planning on doing WITL this year, but some unfortunate recent life events have me feeling like I need to document. And for once, the kits actually appealed to me! I liked Liz's kit, but then I also liked the colorful one and went with that. I really also liked some of the stamp sets for using in my weekly stories book as well. I will say Ali does put out way more real, and everything is not-always-so-great phrases and words in her sets versus any other company. I've done about 4-5 WITLs since 2012ish. I only did a separate album once, but usually just incorporate it into my regular chronological album. I didn't buy any of her albums and if I decide to go with 6x8, I will get one from scrapbook.com. Not totally sure on that yet. I will do it that same week. I like that it usually coordinates with the week that we plant gardens and pots and things, which makes for nice photos. Sorry to hear that sleepingbooty! Altho, documenting lockdown will <hopefully> be a unique time to look back on some day! (soon please!)

Still: ah fuck. Ugh. That would make it even worse for me to feel like I am documenting Groundhog Day. What about doing “pieces of me & pieces of he” to capture another version of lockdown life? I could see that making for a good TN project (says the girls who has yet to do one 🤣) with the me vs he on each set of pages. Maybe a new creative challenge would help give you something to pass the time... again 😔

Oy Sorry your in lockdown again/still that sucks

Part of the reason I usually end up doing a different week from AE is because it doesn't work for my schedule. There will be normal days, for sure, but I like it to have something "extra" in there. Fuck. Booty, I'm so sorry.

Although we haven't been in total lockdown all the time, I have been working from home since 13th March 2020 and I only go out once a week to buy food. My DH is also WFH and the kids have been having online school on and off too. Sometimes I feel so claustrophobic and sick of everyone, and I can't imagine what this would be like in a small apartment. Oh, and now they are saying that we have to work from home until the end of the year! So I agree: c'est super merde!

Thanks for the sympathy, ladies. I guess my SO and I will be back to our old ways of chasing the sun through the apartment windows to get some vitamin D and playing video games. Oh well, could be worse. At least we're not infected (so far).
I might do another lockdown mini? 4 weeks in the life? In the name of all things unholy, am I really considering this? Again? I'm a glutton for pain...

What is WITL?
|
|
|
Post by sleepingbooty on Apr 1, 2021 21:54:21 GMT
Hi Sharon, it's the acronym for Week in the Life, a project started by Ali Edwards. Here's what she says about the project: You can see a collection of her past WITL albums right here on her blog. Ali offers a selection of products to create your own WITL album but many of us use our stash or even make photo books. There's no one way fits all. The fun is in documenting how your life looks like for a whole week and being able to look back on that routine in the future to reminisce in how life was at that time.
