Does anyone know who rode in the car w/ the Queen on her way to the chapel? I was waiting for the commentators to tell us who it was, but at on the network I was watching, they didn't say. I thought it might have been Camilla. It was not Camilla. It was a Lady in Waiting. Camilla was standing outside the church when the cars and those who were walking behind them arrived.

Yes, she was lady in waiting Susan Hussey. She wasn't in the chapel for the funeral. She has been in the Queen's bubble so was able to ride in the car with her.

They separated about the same time as Peter Phillips and his wife split. I only know this as I looked him up a few days ago when they put out the walking order, and I wanted to check on who Lord Snowden was. I looked it up when the list came out and his wife wasn’t listed.

Harry and the Cambridges walking together 😊 Oh I didn't see that. I was watching the Royal Family's channel on YouTube and they must not have showed that (or I missed it, I was in the middle of making cake layers for dd's birthday cake).

This photo was released yesterday and I think it's so lovely...apparently a favourite of the Queen's. It's going to be a tough day for her I love this picture. The smiles are so genuine from people who have had to spend their lives putting on a smile for the world. As someone who is expecting to be widowed at an earlier than usual age, it hits me hard when someone loses a lifetime companion like this. I have frequently thought that the peas should have a regular thread for the members who have lost their partners.

I was disappointed that there was no sermon and no eulogy...in hindsight it now makes sense why over the past week we have seen his children and some of the grandchildren share their own tributes in the media, because obviously they knew that there wasn't going to be a formal eulogy at the funeral. I am also aware that he helped plan his own funeral and that this must be what he wanted, it just makes me a bit sad that no-one spoke about him on the actual day. That photo of the Queen sitting alone will be in the history books, such an iconic image that perfectly captures not only her own grief but the grief of all those who were unable to visit loved ones in hospital and unable to have funerals when they died in this past 12 months of a pandemic. Kate looked so STUNNING, when I saw her arrive in the car she took my breath away. And those pearls, from the Queens personal collection. William literally found not only the perfect person to spend his life with, but also to represent all that the monarchy stands for going forward. I'm not reading too much into William talking to Harry - William has been trained in diplomacy his whole life, and in the aftermath of his grandfather's funeral & under the scrutiny of the world media he was never going to be less that polite and pleasant to his brother in public. The real story will play out behind closed doors and how much genuine reconciliation there is remains to be seen.

I agree Kate looking so elegant and regal, and yes, perfect for the role she'll now play for the rest of her life. As far as William and Harry are concerned...I think they looked pretty relaxed, Kate was leaning in and listening as they began walking up the hill...obviously they knew cameras were on them but I feel it looked more than just an obligatory word exchange. Or maybe that's what I want to see But we'll see, obviously we don't know how things will play out and what happened later behind closed doors but funerals are emotional times and Harry was with his closest family and ties are strong s I'm cautiously hopeful that their relationship will have improved at least.

He's been surrounded too by the military and ceremonial: two things which he professes to admire. Everything today must have said "duty" to him, the thing many say he's walked away from. Will it have given Harry any second thoughts about the path he's taken? Will it have softened William's disappointment with his younger brother?
I do hope that they'll settle their differences, if one is to believe that there are any or as big as we are led to believe. They've been so close over the years.

Those first 2 sentences are almost suggesting different things? That being surrounded by family and ceremonial things was a reminder of things he loves and probably misses, and duty which he found too restrictive and might be glad he's left behind...or am I reading it wrong?

That being surrounded by family and ceremonial things was a reminder of things he loves and probably misses, and duty which he found too restrictive and might be glad he's left behind...or am I reading it wrong? I heard NW say it and his tone to me sounded as- would he now re assess that these things were in fact not a " duty" as such but part of the life he loved being around family and the military. He said something afterwards ( paraphrasing here) that it was so different to what he has now or words to that affect giving the impression that, was it what he has now, really what he wanted. I can understand where NW was coming from. It would make someone, anyone not just him, think if they had made the right decision to move so far away from family and in the case of the military, something that had been so much a part of his life as an individual. There wasn't really anything much about yesterday that you could class as a " duty" I don't think. I guess it could be taken both ways.

Put that way, yes, I agree. It’s all that he’s familiar with and he may fully realise, in that moment, all that he has left behind. I doubt it’ll be enough to make him change course but maybe not to see everything in the UK as all bad.

I was disappointed that there was no sermon and no eulogy... Prince Philip had almost full control of his funeral and had previously stated that there was to be no sermon and no eulogy. "The mind can only absorb as much as what the backside can endure", or to that effect. He didn't like sitting in church for any longer than possible.

I think both brothers are savvy enough to know that the eyes of the world were on them, and it was a good photo-op. While I know that sounds cynical, I truly think they care enough about each other that they wanted to signal to the world that they are on friendly terms. I do think it's nice that they can be friendly w/ each other again. Hopefully, Harry and Meghan will now feel comfortable attending future family weddings and funerals. However, I doubt that William and Harry will ever have a truly close relationship again.

However, I doubt that William and Harry will ever have a truly close relationship again. I agree, Harry has shown he's willing to tell lies & betray his family by doing that interview, and while they might get back to having friendly surface level interactions, he will never be in that inner circle and fully trusted again. Charles and William will be the next Monarchs, they can't risk Harry running to the media and blabbing about private family discussions every time he & his wife don't get what they want.
