pjaye ’s thread and a discussion with my dh made me realize we live almost half way round the world from where we were born. Do you know the word: antipodes? The Latin is against the feet. It is the diametric opposite side of earth. i was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, the closest populated antipodes is Hana, Hawaii. I have never been to Hawaii. Came close but hurricane Iniki beat us by a week and our trip was canceled. Now I really want to go back.

Augusta, Australia is the nearest city. The antipode of my birthplace is actually in the ocean.

My antipode is in the ocean but the closest city is Perth, ive been therr and absolutely loved it!

The antipode to Wurzburg, Germany where I was born is Waitangi Chatham Islands, New Zealand.
Well, it's the closest. Actually the exact point is in the ocean. Waitangi is 817 kilometers or 507 miles from the exact point.
I've never heard of the word antipode, but I love it!

Mine is in the South Indian Ocean. Closest place is Port-aux-Français, Kerguelen Islands. It's apparently a subantarctic research station.

The antipodal city to Lisbon is Okato, New Zealand. I have never been to NZ or Australia, but I would love to go one day.

Mine is Lajes das Flores, Azores, Portugal, which is an island in the North Atlantic, some distance off the coast of Portugal. |

I was born in Portsmouth, VA and the antipode is off the coast of Perth, Australia, in the ocean. Interestingly, we moved before I was a year old and yet in my mid 30's I got stationed with the military in the same area I was born and I live just about 30 minutes or so away from it now. The farthest I have been is the coast of California in one direction, and Germany in the other direction.
