A Classic Case of Teacher Burn-out

I absolutely do blame the NCLB etc. legislation. I know school districts depend on funding and therefore have to comply whether they like it or not. I also know that in our school district, the superintendent and the board are very much advocates of this kind of thinking, and have finally come out and admitted it. Just a few weeks ago, we received communications that the main goal of this district is to create graduates who are college ready and can compete in the world. It sounds noble enough, but it's just doublespeak fabricated to justify the new standardized testing, the new curriculum, the loss of certain things like art and the librarians, the constant assessments, and homework every night for every grade. Because those darn Chinese keep kicking our asses in math, or some equally droll bullshit.
