I have always used small plates to eat on. I like a mismatched plate set and find unique and fun smaller (salad size) plates. It makes my sister crazy, but I think we don't need giant plates to eat on.
When I got married, I got a great set of china and I use it often (or rather prior to the pandemic, I used it often). If I need to have big plates, I just use those. But truthfully? I could get rid of the whole set and not be one bit sad. It was $$$ and I have a set of 12! I'd love to find someone who would use it, but I think good china is a thing of the past.

We did not get wedding china. We were gifted a cheap set of Corelle that lasted for a long time. Over time we collected Fire King jadeite and buffalo china so that's what we eat on now. We do have parts of another 'fancy' china set, but it all has to be hand washed which is kind of a pain so I want to sell it if possible.

There are quite a few china groups on FB which showcase table settings and bargains they get. I love to look. My set was given to me by my Grandmother when I married. Full set and if I hadn't been gifted it, would not have registered for it! Some patterns are very popular still. What is your pattern?

I wouldn't say I have good china, but I do have 3 sets of dishes and it's just too much. I am ready to downsize the dishes but feel guilty getting rid of the wedding set. It is a service for 12 plus a ton of serving pieces. One other set was given to me and then I have more recently purchased all white Fiestaware plates but no serving pieces and we use this on a daily basis.

It was my mother's. Simple white Lennox, service for 15 which is crazy. I used to have a big extended family but they are all extinct so I guess that is why there are so many pieces. I sometimes use it on the holidays, it's nice and reminds me of my family.

I have everyday dishes (Pfaltzgraff Filagree) and two sets of good china (one from my mum and one from my great aunt). Right now the good china is boxed because my sideboard and hutch are still at the old house but I've always used my great aunt's for holidays and my plan is to use my mum's for dinner every night in the dining room (and keep the filagree for breakfast/lunch).
Mum's is Wedgewood Edme and was her wedding china, I think (she had another Wedgewood set that might have been - my sister has that one). My Great Aunt's is Imperial (Japan) Seville -it's from the 60s so possibly a set she bought after being widowed.

I checked yes I inherited but this is partially true. I inherited a set from my stepfather's mother. I met the Mother's actual grandchildren some years ago and gave it to them.
My cousin gave me a small set that she said were my grandmother's. My mom said my grandma never owned them. I am going to give them to Ds1 because his godmother now deceased gave them to me.
My mother has some 1950s grey and pink China that I will take when she passes someday. Not my style but it is my mothers from her wedding to my dad so I will keep it.
My own wedding China was given to me as a wedding gift from my grandparents and years ago I needed money and sold all of it for $35.

When we got married 27 years ago we picked out China for our registry because that’s what you did. However we were only gifted a couple place settings and we were young and poor and it seems like wiser use to exchange those and buy other more practical things for our house. I’ve never bought any China. I’ve never wished even one time I had some. In fact, MIL has multiple times tried to pawn off hers and great grandma’s to us and I do not want it. It just doesn’t fit our life or style.

I voted One Set? My sets include my wedding china, my mother's wedding china, and a set from my late MIL. A few years ago I added a dessert set (plates/mugs) of a Tiffany & Co china that I found at a local thrift store. It gets used when I host my card group. I also have two sets of everyday dishes that are in daily rotation, and two more sets that I don't use often. I like nice dishes! To my credit, I have gotten rid of a few sets in the past few years as we declutter and downsize.

I have my wedding china, my grandmother's china, and a full set of holiday china.
Can't remember the last time I used any of it. Yet, my son is getting married this year and I'm forever saying to them "register for china! It's the only time you'll get it!" Maybe I should give them mine lol

I have fancy china that I picked out and use rarely. I had access to large discounts and bought it. My everyday dishes are china too, but not fancy. China is super durable and great for everyday use..I’ve been using the same set for 20+ years and it’s held up beautifully. ( I’m not even tired of it, )

Never had 'good' china.. just my everyday dishes.. currently and probably forever, Fiesta. I'm sure I'll inherit my MILs 'good' china.. she considers her Corelle, I think it is called, her good china. I don't need it or want it.. so either my SIL will take it or we will just get rid of it. (SIL I am sure won't want it either). My mom doesn't have good china either.. and she is from that era of using it. Guess we were never good china people. How many times can I say china in one sentence.

My mom bought me Lenox china when I was 18 and I gave it to my daughter when she got married. It's beautiful, and I used it for every birthday and holiday. Now she does, too.

We have a full set of china from our wedding 25 years ago, still love it and use it. Sometimes for a special meal, sometimes for spaghetti or that yucky frozen Luby’s fish he likes so much. It includes place settings for 10 or 12, some serving platters and bowls, a few accent plates. Lenox Hancock. We did choose different salad plates because we wanted a design in the center, we have a mix of these and the originals. Lenox Urban Lights Gold. And some crystal wine glasses to go with. Lenox Eternal Gold. I love a nicely set table, so we have started collecting different patterns, but just enough for the two of us. Not whole place settings, just the pieces we love. His grandparents’ Christmas china is very special to him, so we have a couple of dinner plates Lenox Holiday. . We also have the bowl and accent plate from the Noritake Austin pattern. I have my eye on lots of others but first I want to select some crystal and flatware without gold on it, and some more linens. I also like to use chargers, our two most frequently used are some black leather ones and gold glass.eta: For our wedding each set of grandparents bought us a full setting for two including crystal and flatware and I love that and thick of it often when we use them

Because I got married so late, my family despaired of me ever needing china, so they started my collection of everyday dishes, Portmeirion's Botanic Garden. I used that for years, but it started not playing well with the microwave.
I inherited my mother's china, silver and crystal after she died--Royal Doulton's Rondo. I would love to use it but it's got gold trim on it, so couldn't put into the dishwasher, and I draw the line at daily handwashing.
I've always lusted after Bernardaud's Constance, but it's pricey, and would also require handwashing.
And really, we're casual kind of people, and don't have much occasion for fancy table settings, even though I love the idea of them.

I still love china and use it often. Our daily dishes are plain white bone china that are super versatile and can be dressed up or down ( Wedgwood White). We also have our wedding china, which is a simple Greek key pattern on the edge of a white dish ( Wedgwood Palatia). Both of those sets are the same brand and shape, so mix perfectly. We also have a sweet Christmas china ( Lenox Sleighride) that mixes well with our plain white. I know most people don't use china anymore but I still love it. I also don't believe in only using it on "special occasions."

We never had fancy china. We always have to travel for every holiday, and I don't feel like storing dishes we never would use. If the grandparents visit one weekend, we just use mix matched dishes with what we have on hand or paper plates. We have hardly any cabinets, and a tiny pantry so we just keep the basics that we use on a daily or weekly basis. Plus, I wouldn't trust myself with expensive stuff!

My DH is like a bull in a china shop with dishes so I knew it would be a waste of anyone’s good money to register for that when we got married. We still eat off of the same 1980’s Corelle dishes we got almost 32 years ago for our wedding, or cheap plastic kid’s snack plates and bowls from IKEA.
FWIW, we didn’t register for crystal or fine silverware either.

I inherited my grandmother's good china - gold trim so can't be put in the dishwasher. I am 63, so I am sure it is close to 100 years old. It has been in a box in a closet since 1986. I have never used it, but I have taken it with me the last three times I have moved. I have promised myself that I will not move it again!

I have MIL's Mikasa china, as neither of her daughters wanted it. It has little olive green flowers on it and has a real 70s vibe.
It's been packed up for years. I don't need it for anything. I use my everyday dishes for holidays.

In my family everyone brought over china from the old country. It has been passed down, I could open up a china shop.

I got married in the 1980's, so got sets of china and nice glasses. a few years ago, I got my grandmother's china from the 1920's. I had to find a china cabinet to hold it..12 settings and lots of extras. I love it and use it for special occasions.. it has dragons on it and I loved it as a kid. I also have all these small pieces that my grandmother painted (with lots of gold leaf).. very art deco. I think it was a popular hobby when she was young before ww1...grandmother was 39 when she married. I also have her beautiful sterling set I use.

dewryce - We have Lenox Urban Twilight which is the royal blue version of yours. I love the design in the center of the salad plates. We use it only for holidays, but I have it displayed in a glass front cabinet in the formal dining room. Now that the dining room is my work from home office, I at least get to see it every day!

Or, you know, Tuesday.

36+ years ago pretty much everyone registered for china. I was 36 when we married so my group of friends were established in their careers and it showed when it came to our gifts. My sister had registered the same china pattern and only got a few pieces as they married right out of college. I had always loved it so we picked the same one. We received 12 place settings, two vegetable bowls and a large platter. We also received 68 stems of crystal and 8 place settings of our everyday which we still use. Haven't used the china or stemware for years ~ we are much more casual when we entertain now.

I do have a good set of wedding china that I use now and then. Sometimes I get the urge to set a formal table. I can’t remember the exact pattern name, but it’s a simple white with a gold band around the edge. Then I registered for some Royal Albert Old Country Roses accent pieces as well. I can remember my friends telling me that my taste was “too old-fashioned”, but I’m glad I went with those instead of some of the weird, modern sets that were popular in 1995.
I didn’t hang on to any of my mother’s china, but I do have some pieces that belonged to my grandmother. And I know my MIL has multiple sets that she hopes my sister-in-law and I will want after she’s gone.

I've never had, nor wanted fancy dishes.
I am not a fan of entertaining. I don't like cooking.
I eat on small dessert and appetizer plates. Smaller portions.
My dishes are all the same color. A combo of Target Magnolia and CostPlus Trilogy. The majority of my dishes are small. I have two larger size rectangle sushi style dishes that hold more if needed. My one "fancy thing" is a set of six polka dot dessert plates that stack on a rack/holder.

I have never owned fine china and declined to take my parents' when it was an option. I've always been more attracted to heavier Mediterranean style ceramic dinnerware and the bright colors of Fiestaware. My favorite dish to eat out of these days is a Fiestaware medium bowl or a ceramic pasta bowl.
