Kind of a spin off of the style thread. Have you ever given a video a thumbs down? I was just watching a gentleman showing his craft room and his video had over 1,000 likes but more than 100 dislikes too. Just curious, have you ever given a thumbs down for a craft room tour? I know there has been criticism about shaky or wobbly video, hands waving etc. If you don’t like a video, do you just skip it and move on or do you give a thumbs down?

Skip it and move on. Youtube doesn't care if it's a thumbs up or a thumbs down; either one is engagement as far as youtube is concerned. I don't like the idea of leaving a thumbs down without a reason, and I'm too lazy to take the time to leave a reason.

I just stop it and move on to the next one if I don't like it. I wouldn't give a thumbs down. There are so many videos that I pass up because I just don't get it (I feel old just saying that, LOL), like unboxing ones, but even though I find them beyond annoying I still wouldn't give a thumbs down.

I think I’ve given a thumbs down a couple times most likely. When I do it, it’s not because of their craft, creation, or the like. It has to be something completely ignorant and backwards - racism, sexist comments, or similar. If I don’t like your craft room, I usually just stop watching and move on. It used to hurt a lot when someone would give me a thumbs down but now it’s just 🤷🏻♀️. It stings a little but whatever. I don’t understand why people give a thumbs down when it’s a difference of opinion about arts and crafts.

I only do likes and thumbs up. I had a Workspace video once but it just kinda disappeared. Just as well, there wasn't much traffic.

I usually don't remember to give a thumbs up or down! I'm not much of a commenter either.

I've never given a thumbs down on YT. If I don't care for it, I move on. If I like something well enough to save it, I give it a thumbs up for sure.

I give a thumbs up to most videos I watch. I have only given one thumbs down on YT - it was for a how to style your hair at home tutorial and the youtuber had her stylist in her home doing her hair.

I've never watched a full video that I would give a thumbs down to - if it's that backwards, ignorant, offensive or just bad, skip and move on.

I've given a thumbs down if the information is incorrect or directions are confusing/wrong. Most of the time, it's for beading videos. I do leave a comment if I give a thumbs down. I leave a comment if I really like something too. Otherwise I just give a thumbs up.

Generally I do not give a thumbs down. I either watch it, and move on or Watch it, like it then move on. I did one time give a thumbs down because the guy was being offensive so I stopped watching gave it a thumbs down then moved on. But just once.
Whose craft room tour did you watch?

Never given thumbs down. If someone was nasty, I might, but I don't see that in the videos I watch. If I watch a video start to finish, they get thumbs up always.

I’ve given a couple of thumbs downs but not often. The two I can remember:
A technique video that not only did the person not start making a card for over five minutes but the five minute chatter leading up to it wasn’t even related. I want to say it was a ten minute video. I read the comments which agreed with me and said where to skip forward to. Since multiple people had already said the same thing I didn’t bother leaving a comment. Sad thing was it was a useful technique and she did a great job demonstrating but I wouldn’t watch her again.
Second was on a vlog channel I watch frequently. She was sent an extra very expensive limited edition Disney doll. She wasn’t going to contact them and let them know because “they’re big enough they won’t care” but was going to auction it off instead. That was so unethical to me. Apparently it was to multiple other people, too, because in the next vlog she said she called them and told her to keep it. I don’t believe a second she actually called but was just covering her ass.

I only give thumbs up to videos I watch all the way through. If I don't like the video or I don't watch it all the way through I don't do either a thumbs up or down. I do occasionally comment on videos if I have a question about what they did or if I really liked what they did. I think I maybe left one or two constructive criticism comments but that was when they asked for constructive criticism.

That's hilarious! omg. face palm. I think the only time I might've given a thumbs down was when I was looking for a video about something obscure and specific (I think it was tarantulas migrating across roads in NM) and I watched a video by a couple of teens that was labeled as being about that... but turned out to be them chattering to the camera for 10+ minutes going down a road. When I skipped through it all and got to the end realizing it had nothing to do with the title at all I was pretty annoyed. I still don't know why they had titled it that way, how they even came up with that... given that there are something like 2 videos on YT on that topic, it's not exactly clickbait! But generally I just click away. Especially if the YTer was trying to do a good job, which I believe most I watch are.

I have. And I always state why. Sometimes my comment is deleted or not posted.
I will do so over: video quality - pixilated, choppy, can't hear them, moving too much (with and without stabilization), click bait, and sponsorship - when they have one every vlog or it has nothing to do with their channel, or is something g you know is just for money.

I only starting watching the occasional YT video (ETA: exclusively scrapbook-related) when bored during the pandemic & never give a thumbs up or down. If the content is not what I expected for whatever reason, I simply close the video.

I tend not to leave a thumbs down. If I don't like something, I just move on. But then again I tend to watch mostly fluff on YouTube. If I was watching something where someone was stereotyping/rude/racist/etc. I might be motivated to leave a thumbs down. Usually though, I keep it to myself. I tend not to do the thumbs down because it feels a bit like being rude and hiding behind the internet, but only because I very rarely comment. If someone is willing to own and justify their thumbs down I suppose it's different.

I'm just sad I cannot thumbs up the videos I like when I am watching YT on my tv. Although sometimes if I feel like putting in the effort I will play simultaneously on my phone and the tv so they get an extra view.

I don’t think I’ve ever thumbs downed anything on YouTube. I can’t remember doing it at least.
Since YouTube considers it all engagement, I usually don’t bother. I am generous with my thumbs up though.
I don’t even look at that metric anymore for my own channel.

I don’t think I’ve ever thumbs downed a scrappy video. If I don’t like it, I stop watching, skip ads, and don’t give a thumbs up.
I have given a thumbs down for other genres, especially click bait or misleading videos, or ones from channels I’ve decided I don’t like yet Youtube keeps recommending then and putting them in popups. By giving thumbs down, I’m telling the analytics I don’t want to see those, and eventually it stops recommending.

Echoing others that if I don't like it, I'll move on. Only do thumbs up. If it's something political or racist/red pill-y I won't even watch.

I usually only thumbs down if the title was click bait or I find the video (or person’s behavior) to be offensive.
From what I’ve read on analytics, many thumbs down are the result of bots.

Thumbs up/down tells YT algorithm what you want to watch. If you are getting suggested videos you are not interested in, thumbs down tells the algorithm stop showing me these types. People are too damn sensitive about this.

I watch a LOT of YouTube, so I'm sure I have given a thumbs down at some point but it's rare and like others it would be for extremely questionable content. If a video is simply poor quality or they are yammering on endlessly I will exit or maybe skip forward to see if it gets better. I try to remember to give thumbs up to content I enjoy. I usually am watching through my Apple TV so thumbs up is an easy thing to do, but leaving a comment would require me to go to another device. I have done that a small handful fo times for smaller channels I really enjoy or a particularly good video.
