Just resurrecting this thread as I am feeling like a planner failure. I love Filofax and Kikki K and Cocoa Daisy and all the pretty things, but in reality I crash and burn even if I have spent hours setting it up. I am now trying a combination of notebooks, but still feel like I have missed out on something..... Then maybe a planner full of stickers and washi and… stuff…just isn’t your style? Have a look at more minimal planner styles, pen and paper is really all you need. Cloth&paper, sort stuff out, DIY Fish…heck, even the traditional Filofax inserts for that matter. I might use a black and a blue pen when I’m feeling frivolous, lol.

I love all the pretty things too but I don’t use them in my everyday life. I have a simple notebook that I set up in a way that is working for my life right now - appointments/daily must-dos on one side, a long to do list on the other - most things don’t get done on a specific day so a weekly list works for me. I have a tracking notebook as well that helps me stay on top of housework and certain habits. Both live in a leather cover that also holds a wallet insert. I use one color marker/highlighter each week and the same black pen all the time. I don’t worry about making them pretty because I realized I don’t want to keep a giant bin of planners forever. I don’t want to make them memory books (I have other places for that) or put things in them that make the paper unrecyclable/uncompostable. I just shredded some old planners after summarizing the trends and thoughts in a digital journal so I’ve been thinking about the effects of putting fancy plastic stuff on the pages. Our shredded paper was going into the compost bin so I had to rip out all the plastic bits. The Erin Condren planner was the eco WORST. Anyway, that’s just my current situation, trying to curate a memory box for myself. I used to keep my brain in my phone, but that made for constant phone interruptions - so many reminder alarms and snoozing them because I never get stuff done right away… It used to work but not for my life right now. I re-trained myself to keep my brain on paper and develop habits and routines. Anyway, you’re not a failure. You just haven’t found the system that suits your life and brain yet.
