filtered tap water, I can't stand it from the tap. Growing up I begged for a water pitcher or some kind of filter and was always laughed at. I love the filtered stuff from the fridge and have a pitcher of filtered in the fridge too.

I have a giant brita filter container next to the fridge and use that. We have a few cases in the basement for emergencies

We hardly ever buy bottled water. The water here is really horrible, so we have a water softener and an RO system in our house. The RO system goes to the sink and to the refrigerator dispenser (which does not have COLD water, for some unknown reason). So we keep a pitcher (RO) water in the refrigerator for drinking, and a pitcher of room-temp RO water on the counter to refill the pet bowl. We use RO water for all cooking.
If we're out and about, I might buy a bottle of water at the store or a gas station, but we never keep it around. (especially not in our garage-- it gets way too hot out there to keep much of anything.)

Yes. Growing up I lived in an area where the water was contaminated with TCE by Our City and Hughes aircraft company that led to several cancer clusters and lawsuits. I was only exposed to it for a few years, but several people and loved ones have died from the Cancers contracted from it.
I still live in the same city & my mom still lives in the same house. Though the city cleaned up the water back in the 80's cause they got their @sses sued to high heaven, and we get regular water reports, my paranoia about faucet water because of that will not allow me or my kids to drink water from the faucet or even water filtered thru a fridge. So bottled water it is. I know how bad it is for the environment, but I just can't let go of my worry of what's coming out of our taps! 🤷♀️

I have good well water - and prefer it to the water filtered through the fridge. I do keep bottled water on hand because if we lose power, we lose water also - and we'll use it up as it approaches expiration date and replace. Otherwise - no

My husband prefers his straight from the tap (but full of ice from the same fridge source my water comes from so... eh, his choice!). that's me to a tee - I don't care for the taste of filtered water but I LOVE lots of crushed ice so...

Our tap water is super high in minerals so we have a carbon filter at the sink and additionally I use Brita pitchers. We used to have a Reverse Osmosis system but I almost cried when I learned that for every gallon of drinking water something like 4 or 5 gallons were wasted, literally went down the drain!!For water emergencies we have 12 of jugs similar to this, stashed around the house under desks and in closets: www.amazon.com/Reliance-Products-Aqua-Tainer-Gallon-Container/dp/B001QC31G6The only bottled water I buy is distilled water for use with my NeilMed nasal irrigation, and on rare occasions, a small portable humidifier.

We do not drink our tap water. We have a water dispenser with the 5 gallon jugs and we buy cases of 24 water bottles; I'd say we go through at least 12 cases a month.

We do. Mostly it is used for SO to take in his lunch box for work. He works outside so this makes it easier. We use a filtered water pitcher and put that in the fridge if you just want a glass of water or for making coffee.
I personally drink out of the tap, but SO and daughter don't like the taste.

We're in FL, so, of COURSE we do. We have to!!! Even animal care places here NEVER give tap water to the pets!! Unless you live in a house here and have a substantial water filtration system installed (and kept up with), you're sunk. The tap water here is hard, harsh and SO very tainted. Our kitchen tap water is gross (sometimes it's yellow, sometimes is stinks). Same with our showers here.
Since we mainly consume water, we get it delivered in 5 gallon bottles and we have a cheap water cooler. I try to make sure that we don't drink any water from FL.

Did you see this issue with Real Water? I’m not familiar with this brand but it appears they sell single bottles and do home delivery. apple.news/Ao4xmMXBVTKmP_yq24PUNkAExcerpts from the article: Casey Aiken, who was hired by Real Water after working for strip clubs, said he had no experience in chemistry and only a couple of hours of what he called "hands-on training." But he was the one in charge of mixing a liquid concentrate into the water at the company's offices outside Las Vegas. Aiken said in September or October, he was mixing a new batch in the tanks and got a low reading on a meter he was using to measure the water's alkalinity level. So he called his manager, Brent Jones' son Blaine, to ask what to do and was told to add more concentrate. "And he didn't tell you how much?" Aiken was asked during the deposition. "No, he didn't tell me how much," he replied. Aiken said he decided to add two and a half more gallons of the concentrate to the water. Aiken said during the deposition that he wouldn't think that adding more concentrate than usually used would potentially cause a problem with the water. "If I'm putting into somebody that's ingesting it, I would think that it's safe no matter what," he laughed. "That's my thought."

You go through 288 bottles of water a month? Why would you do that if you have the dispenser? I cannot fathom. That is nearly 3,500 bottles a year. Am I really reading your post correctly?

Yes at times
We will drink from our fridge mostly and I have a bottle that can go with me, but we do buy bottles for company or just random times.
We also buy bottles when we leave the state. Many places we travel to have bad tasting water imo

Our town has had so much trouble with water pipes and so we now habe a water dispenser and 3 18 litre (5 gallon?) bottles so we are at least never without water. They seem to have a handle on it now but a couple summers ago someone had filled a swimming pool and it was nasty. That's when I bought the dispenser. I'm convinced they're Flint Michiganing us. One day they'll say oh yeah that water wasn't safe. I exchange the big bottles at the grocery at the town 5 minutes from here. I don't even want filtered water from our town. We don't buy small bottles of water. We fill a reusable bottle when we go out. I only drink water or tea. DD only drinks water and occasionally coffee.

How do you sleep at night? How can you live with yourself creating that level of waste every month? That is mind blowing. Can’t you just buy a filter?

Our water has arsenic so we can't drink it. We can't use the brita type filters because that doesn't filter out arsenic. We don't drink much water, but do buy gallons of water for cooking, and of course we recycle the jugs.

Every person here has ways they help the environment and ways they hurt it. Of course we do, but isn’t it important to do our best and not blatantly do harmful things when there are other options widely available to us? No one needs to utilize water bottles on a regular basis.

When we went to WDW in 2019, DD would not only not drink the tap water at the resort but she wouldn’t even brush her teeth with it. She normally drinks mostly water at home and at one point she specifically commented on how nasty the “Florida water” was compared to “Minnesota water,” LOL.

I'm staggered at how many places have tap water that is toxic?! I just wouldn't have expected that in the USA. I had heard of Flint, but I thought that was a one-off crisis, not something that was happening all over the place.
We have quite hard water here but it's perfectly safe. A few years ago we got into stainless steel bottles which are great because they keep the water so cold and it tastes much better. I hate warm water in plastic bottles, ugh.

We have great water quality here and I only buy bottled water if I have no other options. I don’t like sugary beverages, and rarely buy anything in a bottle.

I don't. I have water in the fridge and it is filtered. I will fill up my Hydroflask and drink that. BUT my city water is good and I have no problems drinking out of the tap. ETA: This did just remind me I missed out on the Lifestraw sale last week. I was going to get a pitcher for the office to keep water on hand. This is me exactly. I would tell your niece those bottles are bad for the environment.

We do have a few cases for emergencies/earthquakes and we cycle through those. However, we drink mostly filtered tap water. I don’t trust it straight from the tap as our water is blended with ground water and the water is only as clean as the pipes they travel through.

I'm staggered at how many places have tap water that is toxic?! I just wouldn't have expected that in the USA. I had heard of Flint, but I thought that was a one-off crisis, not something that was happening all over the place. our pets would NOT drink water from the tap when we first moved into our house. That should tell you something about the quality. Even reports about the water say while it's *technically* safe to drink, it still has levels of many chemicals in it that could cause health issues... etc. I grew up in northern Illinois where there was no issue with super-hard water from minerals, etc. and it tasted fine from the tap. But here in AZ? Because of the hot weather and the geology, the water is super-mineral-rich, and can at times have algae, etc. in it (that gets filtered out, but can still affect the taste). There are "Water and Ice" stores all over the place here, along with filtered water kiosks in parking lots in many places; I have never in my life seen that before moving here. (that's the reason we have an RO system and a water softener. Yes, the RO system uses water to create the filtered water, but like someone up-thread suggested, our RO water use is mitigated by other factors-- for example, we use a high efficiency front-loading washing machine, and our yard is totally desert landscaping-- no grass to water.)

It wasn’t until my plants kept dying that I said something to someone and they told me.
