So, would they have done this interview if he'd received a life sentence for murdering an American police officer in the US?

He doesn't lie? That's their defense? They are deluded.

This part sucks though: " In the days after the killing, Italian newspapers published a leaked photo of what appears to be Natale-Hjorth blindfolded and handcuffed while in custody, prompting questions about the pair's confessions. It is illegal to blindfold a suspect in Italy. Elder's parents told ABC News that their son was "illegally interrogated" by police "without a lawyer present." " Why can't they play by the book?!? FFS. They did take action immediately when the photo was published and opened an investigation into the incident. I don't know the final outcome but the policeman involved was suspended from operational duties at the time. LINK

He doesn't lie? That's their defense? They are deluded. "he is incredibly kind... he 'vomits' the truth...' She must have been talking about someone else, because if their son was doing drugs and carrying a 7-inch knife with him, I'm guessing he was lying to her about at least a couple things in his life. "This sentence is equivalent to a mafia boss killing innocent people... it's too harsh." Well, wasn't the police officer an innocent person in all of this? I think life in prison sounds okay after killing a police officer by stabbing him ELEVEN TIMES.

It's almost like she is saying he was only convicted because he told the truth? I can't even think about who dismissive she is of the life he took.

I think life in prison sounds okay after killing a police officer by stabbing him ELEVEN TIMES. It was as though these parents' reasoning is that the maximum sentence cannot apply to their son because *some* other people who've received the maximum sentence have killed more people than their son. At no point did they consider a life sentence being just for taking a life. Also, a serial killer or mafia boss with serious murder count would not be a good candidate for parole in 21 years which is the length of time to sit before parole for life sentencers in Italy. Their son will be if he exhibits good behaviour.

They clearly don't see their son for who he is as an adult.

they were guests in another country with it's own laws and views on violent crime. they committed a horrible crime. we have to respect that country's justice system as we expect them to respect ours if it were the other way around.
