After many years of La Choy Sweet & Sour Duck Sauce being my go-to, it has disappeared and I'm seeing online that it's discontinued. Okay, so go to my back-up, Kraft Sweet & Sour sauce, can't find any of that, either. Saved by finding Sweet Baby Ray's Sweet & Sour sauce. Now it's showing it's been discontinued. What is going on?
I always used it to go with egg rolls, glazing my ham, cooking the mini Hillshire Farm L'il Smokies in the slow cooker, and I can't remember what all else.
What do I use as an alternative now? Regular duck sauce just doesn't cut it.

I use a lot of Knorr bullion cubes, both chicken and beef. I haven't found any of the beef for months. I have tried five different stores and nothing. They have plenty of the chicken but the beef is no where to be found. I finally bought some store brand cubes but it isn't really very good. So I feel your pain.

I can't help with sweet & sour sauce, but for bullion, have you ever tried 'Better than Bullion' ?? It's a sort of paste that's in a jar; refrigerate after opening... but one teaspoon (I think) is equivalent to one bullion cube. They also have a couple other flavors besides just chicken and beef... roasted garlic, and roasted vegetable. It lasts for a long time in the refrigerator.

I saw a headline about the possibility of ketchup packet shortages. Not ketchup, but the packets. Did not read, so don't know why. Maybe similar??

femalebusiness - Another vote for the Better Than Bullion. I was a die hard Knorr buillon cube user for 30+ years, then I tried the BTB. Much better, fresher taste. You might give it a try. susancinpa & lizacreates- If you can find San-J sauces, you might try their Sweet & Tangy Sauce. All the San-J products are gluten-free and very good. I only switched to that brand when DD was doing a doctor recommended GF diet. Another brand to look for is Kikkoman.

Once in a while I find a jumbo jar of the chicken version at Costco. I'm sorry, I don't know a thing about sweet and sour sauces.

I've been making my own and I like the recipe from spendwithpennies. link

I do this but use arrowroot and no food dye. I have also done something similar with peach juice.

Maybe similar?? abc13.com/us-shortages-gas-shortage-2021-food-coming-chicken/10598712/It is also ketchup itself now. I am starting to see gaps on the shelf and only 1 store in my city has Heinz Simply, so I buy 2 at a time.

How frustrating on the sweet and sour sauce and do weird that it’s been discontinued. I’ve never made from scratch but may have to try the recipe posted.

I have switched to the better than bullion products and really like them. Good luck. I hate when my favorite products disappear. My product that I love that has disappeared lately is the Townhouse rosemary and olive oil focaccia crackers. They were my favorite and can’t find them anywhere. Good luck finding the sweet and sour sauce or an acceptable substitute brand.

Have you tried Kikkoman sweet and sour sauce? It's available at Walmart, Target, Amazon...

Okay, got nervous reading your post so put in a quick order on our favorite Chinese barbeque sauce. Not exactly a sweet and sour but thought I would be safe! Ubiquitous in New England but we have to order it online now that we've moved south. Ah So Sauce

That is so weird! I don’t but sweet/sour sauce, I use Thai Sweet Chili Sauce for anything like dipping egg rolls, BUT, when I was in Walmart yesterday, they had big bottles of Chick-Fil-A Polynesian Sauce (basically sweet/sour) and also a Panda Express sauce that looked like sweet/sour.

Thank you for the link to the recipe to make my own. I was looking for some recipes, but just didn't know which ones were worth trying.
I will also keep an eye out for the Chick-Fil-A and Panda Express sauces to try. We do have the sweet chili sauce, but it isn't quite the same. It is just so strange that all my back-ups are being discontinued.
Also, we also use the "Better than Bullion" in lieu of bullion cubes. Depending on where you're shopping, they have really expanded their line. They also now have ham base, which helps if making ham gravy.

LOL, I just received a notification that the Kraft Sweet & Sour sauce is back in stock at Walmart. However, when I go online, it's still showing sold out.
