I'm waiting for my book to arrive, but I gathered enough info on the internet to get started today. However, I have I question about the grain portion on phase 1. It says one cup, but when it comes to cooked, brown rice, a cup is a LOT of food! It also says that the portion of grains is 1oz (or 30 grams). But that's hardly anything compared to the weight of a cup of rice. Can anyone help me by weighing in on what they consider to be a phase 1 portion of rice? I'm sure it will be clear to me when I've read the book, but it's a few days away still Thank you

Can I join, too?
I just got the book. I'm going to read it and formulate a plan, then start right after Christmas.

I am going to start in the new year too. There's no point now as there are birthdays, parties, lunches out and all sorts of stuff going on until Jan 2. Then I am good.

I reasearched this diet after reading this thread and ended up ordering the book. I'm starting tomorrow Please check in and let us know how it's going! I need way more time to dive into this plan in terms of prepping my fridge, pantry and freezer so it doesn't seem so overwhelming when I begin. Any tips you can share will be most welcome!

First day coming to an end here. It's been easy so far, but then again, it is carb phase. I'm guessing phase 2 will be harder I'm already experiencing how well I need to prepare in advance for the meals. I planned for today, knew what I was going to eat, and had the necessary items in my fridge. I feel I'm going to have to continue beeing ahead with planning in order to succeed, but overall it shouldn't be too complicated.

Don't know if anyone is still reading. Just wanted to say that it's now the morning of my 6th day and I'm already 4 lbs down. I'm not overweight (just on my way there), so that's a lot for me to lose.

Did you read this recipe? Sweet, zesty Cucumber Spinach Apple Ginger Smoothie -- give your body a healthy shot of vitamin A, vitamin K, folate and more before you head out the door in the morning! Sweeten to taste with stevia. Love cucumber (remember all squash) Love spinach Love apple Love ginger And probably won't need stevia as I don't need sweet with cucumber and apple. Talk about vitamins and it being filling. How would you mix this? A magic bullet? I could go and get one this weekend. This sounds good on ANY diet or non-diet!

flanz, when you made the meatballs, did you use a sauce or did you eat them plain? I know my family would be more receptive to them if they were covered with a tomato based sauce.

So far I'm just stocking my freezer for when I start this way of eating in January. You could definitely serve them with a marinara sauce. I'm not sure if tomatoes are allowed on all phases (or any phase of the plan) but even if they are not, you could serve them to your family that way. The meatballs ARE delicious on their own! yum.

Am I the only one who after reading the book and seeing everything that is on the "don't eat" list figure that it's a no brainer that you lose weight? You are cutting out all the whites, processed, and artificials. And what are the long terms on this? Do you have to eat like this forever? I don't want to get stuck in another diet cycle. It's so frustrating trying to find something that is a good fit.....

It's so frustrating trying to find something that is a good fit..... I am still reading the book. I watched Haylie Pomroy on PBS. She talks about autoimmunity, stress, etc., that wreck your metabolism and why reducing calories and increasing exercise doesn't work for everyone. This is what gives me hope. I eat clean, exercise so I feel I do the right things and see little in the way of results. I think it's worth a try to see if her plan helps reignite my metabolism which has slowed by the years I took to get a diagnosis of autoimmune thyroid disease, more years of not getting proper treatment and medication. I am excited about having ladies here to bounce things off of when we kick off in January!

I have to know roughly what I'll be eating and that I have everthing I need in my fridge, before I go to bed. This diet takes some serious planning, but I'm in my second week now, and things are running more smoothly.

I'm on week 2 of her diet and so far, I think I've lost 5 lbs? i also had a cold so eating when I didn't feel well was a struggle! one of the things she stresses is to eat a lot, more if you want to lose more. I also had Thanksgiving in there, and we went to visit family, so I am really trying not to stress when one meal is not "to plan..."
Phase 2 is hard bc it's all meat and veggies. I won't lie - I love my fruits. And I cannot do veggies without some sort of butter, or tea without some sort of honey or sweetner. I have cut out my morning cup and dairy, and bought sprouted bread, but my biggest improvement, if you want to call it that, is that I am not scrounging around at night looking for a late night snack, and I haven't even missed dessert!
I also bought the app for iphone and REALLY like it - it even lets u add recipes from her books and fills in what it counts for!
@lindarina- I agree, 1 cup uncooked rice is a lot. I just measured it cooked. I find her website is not that helpful (looks like she has a membership plan I am not interested in joining) but her FB site is somewhat helpful, and I found another site that reviewed the diet, and had some helpful comments. I wish there was community forum or something (that is free, I am sure there is one on her site you have to pay for).

When she says one cup of rice, she means one cup of cooked rice. It also depends on how much you have to lose. The portion sizes are larger if you have more than 40 pounds to lose.

Book arrived yesterday and I started reading it this morning. On page 24 and about to fall asleep at my desk at work (slow work week), so I had to set it aside to stay awake! LOL

I bought the book. Going to gear up to try something new. I do a lot of advance meal prep so I don't make mistakes and have been eating clean and losing weight but at a snails pace. Is anyone interested in having a weekly check in thread after the holidays? I had thought about trying this because I have been stalled for months but I decided I am going to give my daughters new thing a try first. She has started selling advocare. I am not sure I am really "into" it but I will give it a try for her. We are starting the challenge on January 5th and I would love to join in a check in thread even thought it is a different type of diet. My daughters best friend has been doing this for a year and making good money and her weight loss has been amazing so what the heck I will try lol.

I sat down with the book and a highlighter and never felt sleepy. lots of good info, this way of eating sounds very scientifically sound.

Reading in and of itself, just makes me sleepy, not the contents of the book. I am up to page 63 (or reading about Phase 2). I will go back with a highlighter after I have read through it once. And yes, the plan itself makes sense, and should be very doable for me once I get started on it.
