I wanted to love it more than I did - I just couldn't get past the author writing a 17yo girl in a cancer ward with no parents and no family support. The reasons the author gave for neither parent being around when their terminally ill teenager has surgery etc weren't enough in my opinion, it was so unrealistic that it kept taking me out of the story. I agree that it was quite unrealisitic but at the same time, I know a family is pretty close to that disfunctional so I was able to suspend disbelief and let that part go.

I read The Hunting Wives by May Cobb. Does anyone know why BOTM chooses such awful books? Clearly they are being paid by the publisher, but SURELY the publisher must have better books. This one I'd give it 1.5 stars. Sophie, who has an incredible husband - in fact one who doesn't seem real (haha) he is so great and an adorable son, wants to hang out with the "Mean Girls" in her new town. She has a serious girl crush on the meanest of them all. Why? There is NO REASON. So she does stuff that is completely unreasonable. I will give one small example. She makes out with a teenager - he is 18. She drinks drinks that she believes are drugged, but then continues to do so. The whole book annoyed me. No one should be that stupid, particularly since her background shows she wasn't stupid at all. I thought this book was entertaining in a trashy tv kind of way. (My dh compares my reading these novels to his watching repeat sitcom tv shows on Netflix). The main character is so unrelatable and makes such terrible decisions. I finished The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave and enjoyed it. It’s another quick BOTM read but I liked it—definitely better than The Hunting Wives! Not sure what’s up next—I have a few books in the “up next” pile.

Finished an older book by a much loved author September by Rosamunde Pilcher ----4/5 stars for me. I love other books I have read by this author and this one did not disappoint. While the story line was fairly predictable I really love the way she writes her characters. This book has been out a long time so it isn't the most popular, but it is nice to revisit the books you have missed from authors you love. I absolutely love “September” and reread it every few years! I've had The Shell Seekers on my kindle FOREVER! Maybe this is the summer I read it. I'm reading the new Elin Hildebrand book Golden Girl. I'm really enjoying it and don't want it to end!

The story was so much more than that though. Made me love Lenni all the more and those who surrounded her.

I'm sure there are some occasions where it happens, but there would be a lot more to the parents backstory and pre-existing issues than what the author gave us in this book. Her parents weren't written as "bad" enough to just desert her, especially not her father.

This book is being raved about every where. Can't wait for the movie.
