I read Dear Edward about a boy who is the only survivor of a plane crash and how he survives the trauma of it. I thought it was a very good book, but looks like it got mixed reviews. Has anyone else read it?

I read The Gift of Imperfection by Brene Brown. I enjoyed it. She is doing a special podcast series on her Unlocking Us podcast beginning next week, I think, on the Gifts for the ten year anniversary. I am looking forward to listening. I like Brene because she is so human. She seeks to understand human behavior in a way that is easy to understand and in doing so, always learns a bit about herself.
Now I'm reading Bossypants by Tina Fey. I just downloaded yesterday and it is so funny. Memoirs are my favorite to begin with and hers is very funny.
I'm also reading What Happened to You? by Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Bruce Perry about childhood trauma. It is very good too and instead of being super science-y reads like a conversation between them. But I have to read that one in small doses and instead of audible (which is my preferred method of reading), I got the physical book. I have a hard time concentrating on actual physical books sometimes but I retain the information so much better so I decided a physical book was in order for this one.

Has anyone else read it? I read it and liked it. I'm currently reading Every Last Fear by Alex Finlay. I'm about 3/4 through it and can't wait to see how it ends.

I read The Plot by Jean Hanff Korelitz. I thought it was really good, but I figured out both big twists before they happened, and I'm not particularly good at that sort of thing.
I also read The Time is Noon by Pearl S. Buck. I enjoyed the story and couldn't get over how far ahead of its time it was in so many ways. Buck was definitely a forward thinking woman.

Has anyone else read it? Yes! I started it last year during the height of the pandemic, but could not concentrate and had to put it aside. Both my avid reader sisters encouraged me to try again, so I saw it at the library and read it earlier this month. I really enjoyed it.

I read People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry. I liked it as much if not more than Beach Read. If she continues to put out a book a summer I can see this author becoming an auto-buy for me.
Currently reading That Summer and have found it very easy to get sucked into.

I finished Every Little Secret by AR Torre. I gave it 4/5 stars. It was a little like Big Little Lies and kept me guessing. It was told by two different people and I enjoyed both of their perspectives.
I also read The Next Wife by Kaira Rouda. I also gave it 4/5 stars. I described it as deliciously twisted in my Goodreads review.
I also finished The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. I gave this one 4/5 stars too. I enjoyed listening to this book very much. The story was unique, although it did drag in parts. I don’t love the way it dealt and discussed depression, so if that may be a trigger for you, I would skip it, but overall a good story.

Has anyone else read it? I loved this book. I read it in 2019 and couldn’t put it down. I liked how even though the overall story could be depressing, it left you feeling hopefully. It was one of my top reads of 2019.

I just read Malibu Rising (Taylor Jenkins Reid) and Ariadne by Jennifer Saint. Both 5 stars! I also finished THe Witch's Heart - 4 stars, but interesting (think Scandinavian Circe).

No but I would love to watch it! I think it was a made for TV movies a million years ago. Oh, only 1971, so a half a million years ago.

Now I'm reading Great Circle by Maggie Shipstead. It took me a little bit to get into, but now I'm invested and really liking it!

Just finished Last Summer at the Golden Hotel by Elyssa Friedland. The Goldman and Weingold families gather one summer and must decide whether or not to sell their fading resort hotel in the Catskills. Friedland does stories about big, mildly dysfunctional families well, and this was no exception. Plus, I’m endlessly fascinated by anything involving the “Borscht Belt” resorts of the past.

I thought it was a really poignant, beautiful story. One of the reviews I read said her characters were not well developed! I thought are you kidding me?

I just finished The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. Amazing retelling of the Iliad. It was a 5/5 for me, really loved it.
I started but haven’t finished The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett and I’m not sure I’m going to finish it. Not that it’s not good - it is, but I’m about 40% of the way through and I don’t feel that invested in the characters and where their storylines go. Plus I have so many books on my TBR pile.
I’m still slowly making my way through Intuitive Eating. I’m getting so much more out of it than I did the first time I read it. I can’t recommend it enough.
I’m just starting Pachinko by Min Jin Lee so I’ll let you know how that goes.

I read The Good Sister and thought it was great. 5/5 stars.

THE NEW HUSBAND ('20) BY DJ PALMER : 4 STARS
DESCRIPTION: What makes Simon Fitch so perfect, Nina Harrity wants to know. He knows all her favorite foods, music and moves. Her son adores him. He was there when she needed him most. He anticipates her every need. He would never betray her like her first husband did. The perfect husband. He checks all the boxes. The question is, why?
REVIEW: Previous books by this author (both DJ Palmer and Daniel Palmer), The Perfect Daughter, Delirious, Desperate, Forgive Me, Helpless, Constant Fear and Stolen were all 4 star reads for me. I like when a book gets right into the story. Two mysteries involving Nina's life, disappearing husband and new perfect boyfriend. At 40% still kept me guessing how they would tie together. WOW got me! I didn't see that coming. Last half of the book had lots of action.
Happy Reading !
