ASMR has helped me immensely since my husband died. I listen to it frequently. It's calming and brings things down a notch when I'm feeling sideways. I don't listen to food stuff...I listen to 'whispersred' and 'Gentle Whispering' on youtube. At first I found it odd, now it's a tool for falling asleep and keeping anxiety at bay. I LOVE Maria!! She's so great at what she does. And that first "good evening" of hers... heaven!!

Particularly mouth sounds, chewing, lip smacking and talking....some days poor OH can't even breathe right, lol. I am the same way! I can't handle mouth/eating sounds, and most of the time, I don't eat in the same room as my husband and the kids (if either of them are home). I'd rather eat by myself than getting more and more aggravated because he's simply eating (his manners are fine). He also bounces one leg quite a bit when he's sitting there and for some reason that drives me nuts too. It doesn't move the table, or my chair or anything, but I can't handle it, and I tell him to knock it off anyway. I love the sound of a thunderstorm with heavy rain when I am falling asleep. I like the sound of storms, and ocean waves too. Birds are a whole other story. I HATE them. I hate my neighbors birdfeeders so much I can't even describe it. Being woke up around 6am by the most repetitive bird chirping outside drives me out of my mind. And the lip smacking/eating videos? OMG - how can ANYONE like those? I have no answer for that. Those are repulsive sounds. I've also noticed a trend in some videos I watch of people being really noisy/rude about taking a drink, and then making a loud "AHH" noise after it. I am SO grossed out by it that I've turned videos off in the middle of them. I can't watch anyone drink something either. It actually nauseates me to see someone gulping a drink from a bottle or glass. I own that I have issues! like people clearing their throat, coughing or tapping their pens Throat clearing (or repetitive coughing) drives me nuts too. I know people often can't help it, but it sounds amplified to me, and I want to scream. I've been known to yell "OMG, STOP!" at people in my house for doing those things. Then I feel bad because I know they're not doing it to annoy me. The sound made when someone is sucking a straw in an empty cup is one of the worst. Misophonia is no joke.

I haven't read past the first page... I never knew about this, much less that it was a thing. Now I'm afraid I'm going to be hyper-aware of all sounds. Yay.

I swear I receive all of my enlightenment from the peas. Also...WTF?!? I just googled all of this and I'm mind blown, lol. I hate it!! Also, Google “mukbangs” if you want another WTF moment... I have extremely mixed feelings about "mukbang" entering English vocabulary while being pronounced in a really horrible way.

Nope, can NOT deal with ASMR. When it first started getting popular and I read the "benefits", I figured I would give it a try. I struggle with anxiety and thought maybe it could help. Instead it heightens my anxiety and makes me want to crawl out of my own skin.

How DO you pronounce that word, lol? You can click the speaker on the first entry here for the Korean pronunciation. The first vowel is really close to "uh" but a bit rounder, and the second vowel is "ah." It's short for "food broadcast."

There are so many different types of ASMR, and for those who might benefit from it, it can take a while to find one that you enjoy. I have insomnia and I don’t like to medicate every night, so I looked for another solution. I like some of the whispering and tapping, but I can’t stand the eating or crinkling noises. In fact I get stabby when I hear many everyday noises. I also don’t get ‘tingles’ when I listen, it just lulls me to sleep. There are some very talented ASMR YouTubers, Goodnight Moon has created a whole imaginary world and plays all the different characters. I just love her creativity and the high quality of her film production. ASMR Haven is relatively new but I like her tapping and her baby videos. I think Gibi might be the most popular ‘ASMRtist’, but I rarely watch her videos.

Only yesterday the BBC shared a video of a 84 year old man who has become a favourite with Asmr followers. They said he really helped them get through lockdown. He speaks in a very slow considered way. www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-derbyshire-57402080I was aware of ASmr in a vague way, but it's not something I seek out for myself. I don't really understand ASMR, but plenty of people comment on the videos of a chef I follow saying he is very soothing. Someone said he is the Bob Ross of cooking. youtu.be/F77N-DBRvE4A bit about Adam: he is Malaysian-Australian, a lawyer by profession and won Season 2 of Masterchef Australia.
