We are going for our annual trip to Hilton Head in a few days. We've been to Savannah many times but not Charleston. We plan to do a day trip. Can anyone recommend a place for lunch. Nothing too fancy as we will be in tourist clothes and I don't do well in the heat and will be all hot and sweaty and flushed.
We aren't what you'd call super adventurous eaters. We all love BBQ and seafood/steak, dd love sushi, but she's the only one. A nice view, interesting locations are a plus but not necessary.
If you are familiar with the area and/or have a place that you love, let me know!

well, my all time favorite restaurant in Charleston is Fleet Landing on the pier, but it tends to be more upscale. There's mellow mushroom, there is a BBQ place in the downtown section. There's a well known seafood restaurant down there too, for the life of me I can't think of the name.
Definitely check out the city market area, there's a lemonade guy there in one of the stalls. Great Arnold Palmers. We ran into a guy who had all kinds of birds on the corner outside the market itself- he was part of a bird rescue. You could hold the parrot for photos. He had a box out for donations. Super nice guy and beautiful birds.
There also used to be a free trolley that ran around the downtown area, not sure if it's still on with covid.
There's also a lovely aquarium down there too with a beautiful view of the bridge.

I love Vickery’s on Shem Creek right over the bridge in Mt Pleasant. Wild Olive on Maybank Highway is another favorite. For brunch I love Hominey Grill!
Charleston has a museum and tons to see downtown…the Battery and the Market are fun! If you want you can visit historical sites as well. We have an aquarium, great beaches and for the most part some awesome citizens. This city is beautiful. Have a great time!

Another vote for Shem's Creek. I grew up in Goose Creek, so we spent A LOT of time in Mt. Pleasant and were regulars at the Trawler pre-Hugo. Granted it has been a few years since I have been back down there, but Shem's Creek is always where we would take out of town guests for great seafood.

We had a nice meal at Slightly North of Broad (SNOB) on Bay Street in Charleston. I'd go back again.

We were in Charleston a few weeks ago and loved Lewis for BBQ! It had a great atmosphere and the food was delicious!

I like to take out-of-towners to Magnolias for lunch. I’ve eaten there when I’m hot and sweaty and in casual clothes and it’s fine. It’s beautiful and airy inside, the food is delicious, the service is great, and they have some great southern dishes.
Millers All Day and Butcher & Bee are also good options.

Unfortunately they closed permanently in 2019.

Pages Okra Grill in Mt Pleasant is good, Charleston Crab House is pretty good as well if you want something downtown. Definitely find a place that takes reservations.

Thanks everyone. I'm not sure exactly what we are going to see yet. There is a lot I want to see but since we go to HH every year, we can easily go back. I think we will go to the aquarium, one of the cemeteries (we love old cemeteries) and just walk around a little. I will look into your restaurant suggestions, thanks so much!
