I had time to kill today, so wandered into Big Lots. Some of the prices were incredible. A plain men's T shirt was $18. I guess I don't get out much.

They are not like they used to be, I miss the old days when you never knew what random stuff you might find there!

some stuff is, some stuff isn't.
their seasonal (not holiday) decor (i forget the brand...broyhill maybe?) is very pricey. i am surprised they sell any of it. other things are not. i got some towels there because they had a color i couldn't find anywhere else. $4. then a week or two later they were on sale for 3.
you can get some great deals with end of season sales.

Yeah, for general merchandise the prices are crazy. I needed some body lotion, but could not/would not pay their prices.

On the expensive side or not worth buying. It really used to be fun to visit there.

I haven't been to Big Lots in a long time, but it reminds me of Tuesday Morning - their prices have really jumped up to the point that I think buying at a department store or Kohl's with a coupon is cheaper

Not what it used to be! I'll stick to the Christmas Tree Shop!
I LOVE Tuesday Morning but we have none in my state or surrounding. I always visit a few when in FL!

They are not like they used to be, I miss the old days when you never knew what random stuff you might find there! This is exactly how I feel about Big Lots. You never knew what would be on the shelves and you might not ever see it again. It's the same crap all the time now. I liked it better when it was a random assortment of stuff. I almost never go there anymore because it does seem pricey for what it is.

I agree, I miss the old days when it was like a treasure hunt going there. When I was young and in my first apartment I used to love to browse there. They were known back then as Pic N Save and they sold a lot of close out stuff.
I still have a set of really cool set of baking tins that were a brand name, I think they were Baker's Secret. They are specialty sizes like tart pans and a flan pan. I still use them to this day and remember the thrill of finding them and digging through the shelves until I found all the different versions. I remember my girlfriend thought I was a kook for being that excited over baking tins like Betty Crocker when we had a giant Cheap Trick poster on the living room wall lol.

I started shopping at that store when the original store was called Freight Outlet. They had great stuff back then. Then they became a chain and called it Pic & Save. They still carried a good selection of things at a great price. When they changed to Big Lots I went in a few times but it was not the same at all. They had high priced junk. I haven't been in there in years.

I used to check out Big Lots for summer deals on stacking patio chairs, side tables, pot stands, etc., but haven't been in one for at least 2 years and it sounds like the deals I'd expect aren't there anymore.

That does sound familiar. It may have been McFrugals for an instant between Pic & Save and Big Lots.

I stopped going there when they stopped selling scrapbook items. The bargains weren't as good when they got more and more food items in.

That sucks! I was wanting to replace a runner that's lasted quite a while I got from there. When my son was a baby, we'd find organic baby food there all the time with expiration dates that were quite a few months out. We saved a ton of money.

I got the best pillow ever from Big Lots about 10 years ago and it eventually wore out. I wish I had bought 10 that day, they were only $8. Seriously it was the best bed pillow I have ever had and I was very sad when I had to retire it.
I also remember when Big Lots was Pic N Save. We would buy prizes for our Girl Scout bingo nights from PnS.

Many years ago (at least 20), when I lived in Colorado Springs, it was a MacFrugals or something like that and Jerry Van Dyke was their spokesperson. I never went in, but when I moved to VA, it was already called Big Lots and one day I went in. Wow! I found SO much fun European food and ridiculously cheap prices. I mean real cornichons!!! I miss cornichons so much and they were available and something like $3. IF you could find them elsewhere, they were always about $7. I would shop at BL and get cereal and European food - sauces, etc. Way worth it. I don't think I've been back for 4-5 years.

I miss those days! I bought tons of Doodlebug buttons and I still have some! They did a closeout of EK Success Architexture embellishments in metal, resin and glass and I bought a ton. Still have them and use them on projects.
