We are going to a wedding, inside a barn, on Saturday evening. It is supposed to be 103 degrees at the wedding time. š³ I don't think the barn has A/C but will have big fans. I was planning on wearing a nice dress with heels but the brides mom says shorts are fine (said via text).
It just feels wrong to wear shorts to a wedding. BUT its going to be hot as hell. So do you wear shorts? Or just wear the dress? I dont know the family super well as they are co-workers with DH.
And if you do wear nice dressy shorts, is white shorts ok? Oh no? I would never wear a white shirt/dress to it but is white shorts ok?
Help a girl out. Thank you.

update: ok, the Peas have spoken. I will go find a sundress tomorrow and wear sandals. I knew this was the right call but just needed it reenforced. Thank you for all your input!

i think white shorts would be fine (probably wouldn't wear a white top though).
however, i would be more inclined to wanna wear a nice cool, floaty dress (but i *hate* shorts and never wear them).

Depending on the dress, I would think it would be cooler than shorts. Do you have a sleeveless cotton dress you can wear? White shorts would be fine, IMO. Disclaimer: we had a casual wedding with a pig roast so people wore whatever they wanted.

I think a cool, cotton, flowy summer dress will be cooler than shorts and a shirt. And I would wear sandals, no heels.

I'm not sure I'd wear shorts to a wedding, and in that kind of heat I'd be way more comfortable in a dress versus shorts anyway! (depends on the dress of course)

Wear a dress and then change in to shorts. If no one else is wearing shorts you will be fine. If you wear shorts and no one else does, youāll stand out for sure. Lol

I would probably wear a sun dress or my favorite is a light skirt that comes just above my knee. But I think nice linen shorts can look very nice with a wedge. I love either white or a colorful pair of linen shorts.

I would never wear shorts to a wedding, even in a barn. I would have thought that a nice floaty dress would be much cooler than shorts anyway.

I don't wear shorts (even in good shape, I can't stand the bits of cellulite that show when I'm seated and no matter how fit I am there is a lumpiness to my outer thighs when I sit down and the chair presses on my legs!). I'd wear a sundress or one-piece pants suit, what are those, jumpsuits? Long legged rompers? Lol whatever they're called. I have a couple from Old Navy.
I miss the days of booty shorts but I've accepted they're never again in the cards for me š„ŗ (Not that I'd wear booty shorts to a wedding, I just miss those days when I could look great in them)

IMO a lightweight summer dress is cooler than shorts, and much cuter, so that's what I would wear.

I'm wearing white linen cropped pants to a wedding tomorrow. I'd wear white shorts* over going out to buy a dress I'm unlikely to wear again. *full disclosure, I never wear shorts, but given that you do, if I was you, I would

I would never in a million years wear shorts, but that's because I don't like my legs. I'd wear a sundress - a very light, airy, comfortable sundress.

If you're more comfortable in shorts than a sundress, I would be totally fine wearing them to a barn wedding after the bride's mom gave the okay.

I have bought three summer sundresses in the past month, so I totally would go with a cute summery dress. You made a good call.

I sat at an outside wedding a few years ago where it was 100 degrees in direct sun and we all roasted. It was the most I have ever sweated in my life without running. It was the seventh circle of hell. I had on a maxi dress that blessedly did not show sweat and I tucked it between my legs while crossing them. It was crepe (I think thatās what it was called) so it didnāt look wrinkly. Other peopleās clothes were visibly soaked and people with short dresses had sweat running down their legs from having them crossed. Everyone was miserable.
I donāt know how the bride did it. She had on one of those dresses with a huge skirt that detached after the ceremony and had a form fitting dress underneath. He long hair was curled down her back. I mean, I know it was her wedding, but I will forever be impressed with her ability to smile and stay positive through that.

I have this dress in navy with sunflowers and not only is it comfortable, it doesnāt wrinkle. š plus itās a decent length, some are made for teeny boppers. I have some sundresses from Old Navy but prefer this.

I'd rather wear a dress to a wedding, in this case a more casual summer dress.

People still talk about the hell that was that wedding. I so felt for the older family members - some literally looked ill, and I worried someone was going to pass out. Thankfully the reception was inside - or in all honesty we would have left - even though I loved the bride like a sister. It was truly horrid.

I agree with this. I would wear a gauzy, floaty, strapless/halter dress with sparkly/dressy sandals, great jewelry and take some kind of super light weight shawl in case you need to cover a bit. I would also go get a light spray tan. Then party down!

I have always disliked dresses, so I don't own any. I own one skirt that I have worn for Easter and Christmas at church with my inlaws for 20 yrs. It doesn't fit well now! I would be thrilled to wear shorts! I spent so much time finding a dress for my daughter's graduation, but dresses don't look good on me. I don't really think I look good in most dressy outfits, so I wear the same thing all the time. I am all casual!

Glad its decided. I went to a wedding over Memorial Day weekend in Solvang (CA) which is notriously hot in summer so I bought a sleveless dress and some pretty flat sandals and worried if I could get away with not wearing Spanx.
Shouldn't have worried. The wedding was at 4 p.m. and we FROZE that night. Bride didn't get outdoor heaters (wedding on a ranch in the garden) so we all sitting there freezing. It actually winded up being okay because that just kept us all on the dance floor longer, lol.
Enjoy your wedding!
