Closure extended till July 21.. I am sure many are pissed off. PM said they didn't have high enough % of those with one shot and they are still seeing many cases of COVID.

The numbers have dropped significantly. More Canadians have one dose of vaccine than Americans. More Americans are fully vaccinated. I know the government has said they will open the border when they feel like the threat of transmission has dropped. I think it will be by the end of the summer at this rate. I am not desperate to travel but would just like the option if I want to.

I live in a Border town and am quiet fine with the continued closure honestly.

I feel for the folks dealing with the continued closure who live in Point Roberts, WA. I wish they could come up with something, ANYthing to help them out.

I read that the most severe cases involving the Delta variant appear to be in unvaccinated people or those who are only partially vaccinated. Fully vaccinated people seem to be protected from it. So now it seems like a race to get people fully vaccinated. I am not sure about the rest of Canada but we are nearing 70% with their first dose in Alberta and just under 10% fully vaccinated. But the numbers for second doses are climbing rapidly. In my family of 6 4 of us are fully vaccinated, the other two will be by mid July. Fingers crossed for the border opening and no quarantine when returning home by the fall.

I think it's be open Sept 1st. Maybe as early as Aug 15th. Tourism and attractions like Canada's Wonderland are opening in July in Ontario so we aren't far off.
It will most likely be for fully vaccinated Canadians and Americans. I can't see it happening for partially vaccinated or non-vaccinated.
In Ontario as of today, 74% of those over 12 have received the first dose and 20% have received the second shot. The past few days they've been administering 200,000 shots a day.

Last I heard earlier ... One vaccine = only 30% protection for Delta variant. Fully vaccinated very good coverage!!

I don't know what the length is in Canada but it's 8 weeks in the UK and has worked very effectively against the delta variant even with only one jab. The infections and hospitalisations are among the unvaccinated here in the UK with a handful of infections among the ones that have only had the first jab. A high proportion of the infection is among the late teen to late twenties. It should come down somewhat in a couple of weeks when the jab takes affect as everyone over the age of 18 are due to be vaccinated as from today. The 23 to 30's have already been called last week so they've moved to the last age group today.

Iâm kept out of my country by border closures, and I while I do understand the reasoning for them, itâs been super hard. So I feel for families separated by them. What I read on delta variant this morning.

Everything has changed in the past few weeks. She probably could have moved her appointment. My son was immunized on May 12th and I can book his second appointment starting Wed. He already has an appt for Sept 1 so it will be moved up to most likely early July. As for your other comment about Cdns not being fully vaccinated. Vaccines are a choice here. I have no doubt that we'll be over 70% fully vaccinated with both vaccines this summer. Probably a higher percentage. That is fine with me. Those who choose not to be vaccinated are going to have a tough time because businesses, sporting events, theatre, travel are going to be asking for full vaccination. The federal gov't said today that they are working on certificates to state that you are fully vaccinated.

I should be clear here, Iâm not criticizing the decision to get more shots in arms with the prolonged multi shot approach, that both the UK and Canada made in the middle of really bad surges at the time. I think they made decisions with the information they had.

I feel for the people who are separated from their loved ones. I know a 21 year old who hasnt seen her mother or younger siblings since January 2020. My coworker knows someone who works in Canada so had to move there while her dh remained in the States. He passed away unexpectedly.

They run twice weekly foot fairies for them to here in Bellingham, and have since last Fall. It's not perfect, but better than it was for several months at the beginning.

My point was that every Canadian who wants to be vaccinated will be able to do so by mid summer. The good news is that a large portion of our population is interested which is great.

Unfortunately there seems to be some escape. Approx. 10% of people hospitalised with the delta variant in England have had two doses of the vaccine. I was hoping it would open before we were up there next week. We will be able to see Canada from our resort (Gunflint/BWCA). Figured it wouldnât be open, but was hoping to bring the passports.

I along with everyone else is so sick of all of this. Beyond ready to get back to normal. Tired of trying to keep everyone from doing foolish things (family). We get some semblance of normal and then if we get a wave of this here which is highly likely just when everyone lets their guard down and go back to work unmasked after 16 months.
