What’s the point, if I have dogs that go in and out of their dog door all day long?

I think it really only helps if you have lots of carpet and especially light colored carpet.

I think over time it just helps with the wear and tear.. I dunno...
I think our carpet held up much longer as we tend not to wear shoes on the carpet for 20 years. Although now it is at the end of it's life.

That my philosophy. I know shoes carry germs, but so do bare feet. I haven’t died yet…

For me, it matters because my shoes are out in the public more than my dog’s feet. The local sidewalks and backyard are a different kind of dirt than the grocery store parking lot or movie theater floor. I feel if I can eliminate tracking that kind of dirt I feel better, but overall my floors do still get dirty from the dogs and kids coming in from the yard.

We are shoe free with a dog. It’s not so much about the dirt that get tracked in but more about the bacteria and germs from the floors of public buildings…grocery stores, schools, restrooms. No thanks.

I hate wearing shoes, so that is one reason we are shoe free. As for the dog, he only goes out when we take him out, and yes, we wipe his paws. We bring in less outside dirt when we take our shoes off. We do have inside shoes/slippers, but we don’t wear them outside. And the biggest reason we are shoe free - it is the custom I grew up with being from a Hawaiian/Asian household. 😁
Now, getting my popcorn and going to sit back and watch the show. This topic always get interesting. 😂🍿

We wear or don't wear. Our house is all tile (no area rugs even!) so no worries about wear and tear on carpeting. It depends on what we're doing... if we're just hanging out in the house, shoes usually aren't on. I hate shoes so mine come off as soon as I get home anyway. DH likes shoes so usually has at least flips on. The kids? Socks sometimes but they tend to slip so they'll usually be barefoot. We generally won't wear shoes outside at home either unless we're going in the car.

Lived in Asia, no dogs, no shoes in house. We have carpets (except kitchen, dining room, conservatory, en-suites). Less dirt in general, obviously less outside dirt, also more comfortable. But that's just us.

I do wear shoes in the house, but the shoes I wear inside typically don't get used outside the house. That said, I don't have a rule of no shoes in the house. I have all solid surface floors, and I'm not that terribly concerned about germs.

I wear shoes inside but they are shoes that don't go outside. I have plantar fasciitis so walking around without shoes is painful.

We spent some hard earned money on refinishing hardwood floors before we moved into our house so it was no shoes for anyone the first 5+ years. After that it just became habit and now I feel weird wearing shoes in anyone's house.

We are no-shoes at home primarily for comfort. We all prefer to be barefoot.

We have no carpeting or rugs and use "indoor only" house shoes/slippers. DH and his son both have sweaty feet and would leave footprints all over the floor otherwise. I refuse to mop the floors every day, so house shoes it is!

Canadian here - snow, slush, and muck for about six months of the year and as there is no way I want to clean up that mess a few times a day, the footwear we wear outside don't get worn inside. And as this always comes up - we never ask people to take their shoes off, it is just what we do in these parts. We also don't go barefoot at dress up parties - we bring our pretty shoes to change into at the party. We leave our boots at the door with our coats and jackets.
We wipe the pup's feet when he comes inside.

So we both wear and don't wear shoes in the house, but if it is wet, slushy, muddy...we just automatically take our shoes off at the door instead of tracking stuff in. The muddy paw prints currently by my back door say the dog isn't as polite.

I refuse to mop the floors every day, so house shoes it is! I have three teen/college age daughters, so I know all about sweaty feet! They wear socks inside and I would often have them wash their feet when they came home from school. My mom did the same with me.

In the warm climates (southern US) shoes are worn inside the house, not discarded at the door.
There was a time when I was more barefoot than I do now. After I had foot surgery the podiatrist said to never go barefoot.

I once had a carpet guy tell me that the oils from the bottom of your feet is almost worst than wearing shoes. Take it with a grain of salt or a margarita!

Because my dog’s feet are tiny and precious?
Seriously, though, we mostly do it out of habit these days. I’m not super worried about what’s getting tracked in, as I don’t worry about whether or not our friends take off their shoes. I think we just prefer to be barefoot around the house.

I wear shoes inside but they are shoes that don't go outside. I have plantar fasciitis so walking around without shoes is painful. This is me. I just need to get into the habit of A. Reserving one pair of "indoor shoes" and B. Remembering to remove shoes and switch when I enter and exit. more about the bacteria and germs from the floors of public buildings…grocery stores, schools, restrooms. No thanks. Yeah, it's a different type of stuff than your doggies carry in from the fenced yard!

We’re a shoes off house for comfort, and I’ve done it all my life. Guests can do whatever they want. I would never ask a guest to take off their shoes. I like it so much better that we don’t have carpet in this house and I can clean the plank floors in no time.

In our case we don't have pets going in and out. I am very allergic to grass, pollen etc and not wearing outdoor shoes throughout the house helps. The floors stay clean a lot longer too.
We don't ask guests to remove their shoes.

I don’t wear socks a lot, only in my good sneakers. I wash my other shoes a lot. I won’t take my shoes off In anybody’s house because my feet are really sensitive to some cleaners, Especially Clorox based ones.

My dad gets dressed in the morning and puts on his shoes then. We will never be a shoe free house. We do have a dog but I plan to take out the carpet on my floor and put in flooring.

Just D/H and I plus two dogs. All tile, live in a hot climate, no rugs and floors are frequently washed. 50/50 barefoot and slippers for me, D/H is always barefoot. For guests, I do not want to tell people to take their shoes off when they come into my house, seems a bit invasive.

Shoes are allowed in my home.
I take my shoes off as soon as I am home, for comfort reasons. I do not like being barefoot, as soon as I remove my shoes I put on my socks(no show ankle socks).
I have an old raggedy pair of flip flops that are my "house shoes", meaning I put them on to go outside, take the trash out, etc...
If I go to someone else's home and it is a "no shoes allowed" home, then I bring a pair of my socks in a baggie, so I can put them on.
I keep a couple pairs of socks in my trunk, just in case.
