It's my perception that we need less sleep at that stage of life. If you aren't tired, use the extra time to do something fun, like read a good book, craft, write your novel ....

I just dealt with it for the first year and then tried the OTC estrogen supplement, Didn't work for me. Asked dr. and he recommended a 5mg dose of estradiol and it really helped with the worst of the sweats. I still run hot and cold, but I don't have the extremes. I still take up around between 1 and 3 and eventually fall asleep. Thankfully I am not working, so I can sleep late when needed.

I am so glad you posted this. I have a small fan on my night stand and an air purifier that have helped with sound. I’m working on DH agreeing to an isolating fan for my side of the bed.
my beef is...my last full period was last July 4th. I spotted in Feb for one day but that’s it. I thought 1000% I was done. Guess what I got Friday, July 9th?🤬🤬🤬 I am sooooo ticked. My dh said well better than next week when we’re on vacation. Now I’m hoping it actually ends before we leave!

Benadryl helps me stay asleep. I try not to take it every night, just when I’ve had a few nights of broken sleep and really need a solid nights sleep.

Benadryl/Unisom and no alcohol. Also, I started using sleep music from one of the free apps (Headspace, I think? or was it Calm?) after I took the pills. It helped "train" me to fall asleep, so now I don't have to use the pills every night. The music alone triggers me to fall asleep.
The problem is when I wake up in the middle of the night - if I haven't taken a pill, sometimes I can't get back to sleep.

Sleep stories on the Calm app to get to sleep. Ambien to stay asleep. Fortunately I only needed the Ambien for a short time to get through - I didn’t want to be on it long term. But it caused no problems for me.

Though I have a sound machine instead of the fan. DH doesn’t like fans and I want him to be comfortable too. Sort of. I’d love an overhead fan though. He says it will dry his eyes, and the living room fan does, but he sleeps under the covers! Thanks for bringing it up, I think I will talk to him about it again…after taking middle of the night shots of him doing just that for a week to strengthen my case! My cycle is that unpredictable as well, and mine stopped and started up around the same time as yours. Before my (fabulous) ablation (eventually) stopped my crime scene periods, it made it impossible to plan anything either and we had to travel with a mattress pad, 2 million billion overnight pads, extra panties, and the heating pad. Every.single.time. Not fun. I’m so sorry yours is back, and hope it either straightens out or disappears all together!

I have to say, the long distance between them isn’t as bad as having super heavy ones for more than a month. Man was I anemic! But again, my ablation was fabulous and a half a year after it those were gone. And I had hot flashes for several years in my 20s and early 30s. I’d much rather odd cycles than hot flashes. That was miserable. I hope everyone here suffering through them finds some relief!

I'm 43 and never had trouble sleeping until recently. I never changed anything and most of those tips I was doing already, so I knew I wanted to do something beyond shutting off my screen an hour before bed. I made an appointment with a naturopath she did a saliva test on my hormones. I'm on some supplements now, things like ashwagandha and chaste tree. Not sure your age or if you know for sure you are in perimenopause but the firsr thing the doctor said to me was you can have hormone issues and not be in perimenopause.
