What a beautiful setting! Those trees reflected on the lake!!! We bought a small place on the lake last year too. Huge coronavirus purchase but we love it and now plan to sell our main house when DD goes off to college and live at the lake full time!
I love Dock & Awe for a name!

We have both - including Corelle. We use the real dishes when we're eating inside or on our deck. They are thin plates so they don't take up much storage space in the cabinets. Our melamine dishes are used when we go onto the pontoon or when we're down by the lake.

I was thinking 'Oasis'
I DO like 'Dock & Awe'
Corelle and/or good plastic. Paper if there is a large group eating!
Avoid heavy dishes both for storage and handling, walking around, balancing on knees, in and out to deck...

Real plates, please.
If we rented your place we would go buy dishes and then give them to a kid when we got home. I cant handle eating on plastic, it just freaks me out.

Lots of Luck ! The view is awesome !
I would definitely go melamine plates/bowls. Last summer I bought melamine soup bowls and they’re awesome because nothing slides off (like a plate). If you plan on eating on your porch, fire pit or on your dock, they would be perfect.

Real plates. We only use paper plates once a year. (4th if July week when we are feeding as many as 26 people)

No clever ideas on a name. Your cabin looks like heaven on earth. If I was fortunate to be visiting there, I would not care what you served me or on what plate. Choose which ones are easiest on you.

Love the cabin!
Can the new set be used in the microwave? Corelle is fine in the microwave, although they so get a bit warm.
Can you keep both? Use the Corelle for everyday use and the patriotic when you have company or for holidays or even nice dinners.

Will you be using them outside? Yes they will get used outside. I have ideas on patterns with US flags on them. They also have star shaped plates and star applique dishes as well I love the star pattern! Fiesta is heavy though and my arthritic hands don't love washing them. (I have Fiesta at home) first, i'd ditch any old plates and silverware and replace in my own real plates We bought the cabin from relatives, so I wasn't in a hurry to replace dishes. I did buy a full set of new silverware because they were missing lots of pieces from the set that was there.

We only use paper plates once a year. We try really hard not to use paper, but we do have them as backup for larger groups. Peas, I love all the ideas for naming the cabin! I don't have a ton of cupboard space, so I think I will buy a few pieces of Melamine, and I like the idea of white Corelle

Cute cabin. I prefer real dishes. For a cabin, I would do some type of stoneware. You could do solid colors and then some fun napkins or just a red gingham napkin.

Corelle actually has some cute red/white and blue/white sets. I would want something that can go in the microwave.

I prefer ceramic, stoneware, porcelain, etc dishes. I dislike both Corelle and melamine, and I’m not fond of overly themed dishes (so a more subtle pattern is fine but not a full flag). However it’s just a personal preference so it would probably only bother me for about 30 seconds then I’d get over it.
I think it’s important to have an unbreakable plate for outside and kids, but I don’t want to eat on plastic for a week so I would want both. If I were buying them I would buy bamboo because it’s more environmentally friendly and fewer chemicals leaching into my food.

What is trash service at the cabin? At our family cabin, we have to haul out trash down the mountain so I prefer to wash dishes (we do have a dishwasher) rather than let trash accumulate. That would affect my answer.

I just checked out the pictures! It looks beautiful! I see you are in Minnesota. We bought our place almost 10 years ago and love it so much. We are in northern MN - tall red pines, spring fed lake. My husband and I are fortunate to both be teachers and we live here the entire summer. It's less than a 45 minute drive from our house in town so we use it on weekends in the spring and fall too. It's the best purchase we have ever made.
No one on our lake has named their place. You might see a last name on a sign at the end of a driveway, but that's about it. Our sign has our last name on it. If I had to do it over again, I probably would not put our name on it. No one really needs to know where we are.

Cabela’s and Bass Pro have had neat plates in the past that would be nice in a cabin.

I see you are in Minnesota We live in MN but the cabin is in Wisconsin. It's only a 90 minute drive for us. I would say that in WI about 50% of the cabins in our area have names.

Cute cabin! Lovely view.
I vote real plates always. And I don’t count Corelle as real.
I would avoid paper plates myself anyway, but especially if you’re having to take trash home with you.

We use melamine plates when we aren't using the china (seriously true.) My DH has some nerve damage in his hands, so heavy dishes are out. The melamine is super light and never slips out of his hands. I had to get rid of our old stoneware set after he dropped so many dishes. They were heavy.
But I'd go with whichever one makes me happiest! That would probably be the ones with the brightest colors.

So pretty - congratulations! I’d get new Corelle. It’s extremely light weight but sturdy. We got a set when a minor hand injury made it difficult for me to hold heavier plates with my right (dominant) hand, and ended up keeping them. They don’t scratch, can be used outdoors and I’ve dropped them enough to know why they’re called unbreakable glass, not that they feel like glass. To continue your theme they have some with a simple blue stripe, blue squiggle or blue speckles, among other blue or red ones, plus a couple all white ones with texture: www.corelle.com/products/8431/dinnerware-setsWe bought Ocean with its wonky dots, plus open stock pieces at a Correlle store. They look new after daily use for years. www.corelle.com/product/ocean-blues-16-piece-dinnerware-set-service-4#&gid=1&pid=3We also bought a set for my in-laws when my f-i-l wanted to help out in the kitchen but due to a stroke he’d drop dishes.

I’m a fan of Corelle. When we completed our kitchen remodel 2 years ago I got rid of all my heavy dishware and bought plain white Corelle. I know people look down their noses at it, but I like how light and durable it is. If I need fancy place settings, I have china. I don’t use melamine because we reheat in the microwave a lot.

I’m a fan of Corelle. When we completed our kitchen remodel 2 years ago I got rid of all my heavy dishware and bought plain white Corelle. I never cared about how heavy dishes were until arthritis started in my thumbs. I have Fiesta at home and I hate hand washing it because of the weight and the pain it causes me. I use my dishwasher at home a lot more now! I don't have a dishwasher at the cabin, nor is there room for one : ( I am thinking Corelle plain white dishes might be what I buy. They are lightweight and durable. I really want the melamine, but I can't ensure that it would never be microwaved by DH or others that stay with us. It is pretty rare that a whole place setting would be used outside, so I am not too concerned about breakage outside. All of you peas have made great points and helped lead me to a decision!

When we rented cabins, honestly the quality of the dinnerware didn't matter to me, but I did appreciate when the dinnerware matched the theme of the cabin. I appreciate the little details like that.

I want something that is lightweight but can also go in the dishwasher and microwave. A lot of rentals seem to have really heavy dishes which I find annoying. Corelle is awesome IMO so I'd keep those. Or invest in a new set, they aren't very expensive and you can get white and then use other table accesories in red and blue.

if you put plastic plates that should not go in the microwave at a rental, they will most likely go in the microwave and be ruined.
