That could have been the first non-pea teacher who found us... leeny - what do you think? I agree with PPs that the non-pea lists should be removed from OP. AND THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR DOING THIS! the first was srivera27 I didn't have a problem with long time peas listing their DDs.. I think there were 3. I had already removed them from the main list.

*** Teacher message break****
Fellow teachers on this list...I attended the Teaching Black History conference this past weekend and ended up with a great list of picture books. I put them on my list if you want to peek to add any to your lists. I can also send the list of books to your email if you message me.
My goal is to really grow the diversity in my library.

Thank you all for the latest gifts sent to my daughter. These items will help her special kiddos tremendously. Some did not have names on them so hopefully my daughter is still able to send a thank you through amazon. I am not sure how it works.
Updated to say that the codes did not work on some gifts for "thank you's." The person that sent hot air balloons--your code did not work but she LOVES them and said "they will go outside on her door." And the person that sent Numbers 0-100 did not have anything in the package. She is excited to use these for number sequencing and number identification. Thank you!

Also, looking at your ideas took me down a rabbit hole- I love seeing the recommendations from other educators.

But who are you and how did you find us? Yes I am a new member. A Pea that is my family friend explained this website to me months ago and I just now joined because life got ahead of me and i forgot. I am sorry that I disrespected you and other Peas that may feel I am here for the wrong reasons. My Pea friend explained this site to me and told me how generous and kind others are on here to teachers and being in a low income, title 1 school in Chicago that this would be a site that could benefit solely my students. I now know that this seems as if i’m here for the wrong reasons but I myself have donated to some lists already and would very much appreciate if my wishlist was back on the list. I’m deeply sorry again and hope you understand You have THREE posts to your name. ALL 3 are on THIS thread. If you really want to be a member of this community, interact with others. I completely understand the need for supplies/donations but to jump on a board and not have any history with anyone here, I think it's kinda ballsy to ask for people to support you when there are no relationships and you haven't made any other effort other than this thread to reach out to the community. Many people have been on here for decades between the old board and this one. It's a wonderful community full of awesome people but you need to interact rather than come here and drop your wants. Thank you for gifting others. This isn't a facebook group that is about posting lists and giving/getting (I'm in a few of those) but rather a large extended family.

Although, I'm not sure how you can be so unwelcoming to someone thats NEW. I get it, maybe I shouldn't have put my list out there with being new so I can truly see how this site works but I didn't know it wasn't a getting/giving sort of thing. A pea member who is a family friend just told me to check it out and put my list out there. I was never feeling entitled to receive anything or expecting anything because these are not "wants" that I'm trying to push onto people here, I just put my list on here because someone told me I should and raved about the amazing community on here with helping students and teachers. I am SO grateful for the items I did receive from members on here, I will not put names so none of them get attacked, but its sad seeing how many people have attacked me for simply utilizing a resource that someone else recommended to me and I wasn't aware of the extent of what it means to be a Pea to feel comfortable enough to post a WISHlist that could help out my students. Thank you for your input and concerns, I hope new members see this thread to see that it may not be as welcoming to new members as its made out to be. I hope every teacher in here has a great school year and we all can face the challenges of back to in person learning with grace! Maybe if you shared the name of your pea friend that would be helpful. And you are wrong that this place is not welcoming. It is a wonderful community, but you can't expect to be welcomed when you make no effort to join the community.

Me. I'm the long time pea who introduced srivera27 to the pea board. I am so sorry I haven't posted about her, but I've been a little busy fighting cancer and going through daily radiation and chemotherapy. linkShe and her 4 sisters are part of our family. We have lived on the same block all of her life. We spend all of our holidays with them. I just don't have the energy to post but I try to read at least once in awhile. Please reconsider putting her back on the list. She is NOT to blame. I am a little surprised, (but knowing the peas, I shouldn't be) by how unwelcoming and mean spirited many of you have been. I really thought you'd help out any teacher peas, esp those trying to build their classrooms, as new teachers. She is only in her second year teaching, Special Ed in High School. We help out so many teachers, including homeschool (?) ones. srivera27

We help out so many teachers, including homeschool (?) ones. srivera27 I’m sorry I don’t meet your criteria for being an educator as a homeschool parent. I get no taxpayer assistance (though I pay those property taxes), no free curriculum, no free field trips but I still want my child to have a robust education so I buy all of those things. Homeschooling is very expensive. We made that choice, just as the teachers here have made the choice to teach. But for those reasons, I’m very thankful for the generosity we received. Just because his education happens in our home, it doesn’t mean I’m any less his teacher. No one who has questioned the motives of the newcomers has been mean spirited (though I can’t say the same for your “?” comment about homeschoolers). Not one. The peas are among the most generous people on the planet. But you as a long time pea have been witness to people taking advantage of that generosity. How were we to know that two strangers, neither of whom initially shared that they were invited here by their friends, just post their wish lists and walk away weren’t here to take advantage? I appreciate that Jennifer George has been trying to join in and participate in other threads, which shows at least an effort to join in here. Until you and your friend said she was invited here, how were we to know any different, and why is it wrong to feel protective over not wanting to be taken advantage of? I am sincerely sorry to read about your health trials and cancer diagnosis. I hope the treatments are working.

scrapmomof2 I don't think we were unwelcoming. We questioned. There were 2 new people requesting teacher supplies. No introduction, just I'm a teacher and here is my list. No other participation on the board in any other way. Your friend's first request was for gift cards. I think even you should understand the skepticism of who and what when the request was for gift cards. Yes, after the gift cards there are other items listed, many expensive. Most people asked for items starting under $10. I think there is a lot to consider about this situation. @missjen

srivera, if you’re still reading and want to actually join our community, you’ll find that the peas are a very wonderful community. On some days we fight like cats and dogs, but we always have each other’s backs (which would come to include you if you wanted to invest here) and we always take care of each other. If your friend has shared anything about us, you’d know we’ve helped with teachers, with cancer warriors, with basic needs, with airline tickets, with scrapbook supplies, and even with a prom date. I’d encourage you to introduce yourself, dive into some threads, and get to know us and we, you. I did see you say that some people did send to you from this thread. I hope you got some things you can use and thanks for being a teacher.

Hey, I didn't want to just leave this thread and not respond. I won't be able to use a computer for a few days. I am sorry you took my ? as a reason that I don't support homeschool teacher, because I absolutely do! Very much so. I just don't remember anyone posting their lists in years past. I think it's incredibly wonderful way to teach children, and wish I could have done it for my son. I have a B.S. but I know I wouldn't have done a good job as a teacher. I just don't have it in me. I did help my son after school, quite a lot, but to do it all day and every year, I think I would have failed miserably. But when I did help him, with the teacher's input, I was actually pretty good. The peas have every right to question a newcomer. I remember so many scams from years past. It was ridiculous. So I apologize for sending her here without a proper introduction from me. I asked her about the gift card from Amazon and her response was this way if they wanted to get her something off her list, but felt it was too expensive, ( new teacher remember) then they could just send a gift card and she would purchase the rest. She's only 23 years old and didn't realize the power of the peas. I did ask her to participate, but I think this board is a little too old for her. Most of us are raising kids, in our 40's, 50's, and some even older. So thank you for the responses, and for your prayers. I wish you all a happy weekend.
