This CA Fire Scanner posts information about new and existing fires in CA.
Let’s just say whoever is typing up the tweets must have sore fingers.

No danger of it happening here but flooding scares me the most. More so than earthquakes or fires and I live in those zones.

With all we have learned about precious ice ages and scorched earth times, you would think people could understand that climate change has always been going on. And thankfully we go thru those changes, I'm happy to not coexist with dinosaurs.
I worded this poorly. I am sorry.
I absolutely believe in climate change and agree with each and every effort made to try and stop what we are doing to our planet.

There isn’t a real debate. Just a political one.

That tweet is a little misleading. It was the system that was used for the first time ever. It's a new kind of system for warning of impending health risk because of the heat. This week-end had been the first time it's been needed to be used. Yes, climate change is very real. Even the scientists who have long predicted it are shocked and concerned at the speed of what is happening across the globe.

We have something like that here in the San Francisco Bay Area called “Spare the Air” day.

Not exactly sure why, I mean it’s not like I could do anything about the flooding but somehow my mind thinks the wildfires are much worse. It’s not logical 🤷♀️

I really do feel that we have passed a tipping point already. These events have been more severe even than the best climate models predicted, which scares the crap out of me. Sadly, we have done essentially nothing for the past 30 years but allowed the 1% to profit off our natural resources and destroy our planet. People will only change when they or someone they love is directly and severely harmed by one of these events.

If you don't think it's real and happening, you're an idiot.

With all we have learned about precious ice ages and scorched earth times, you would think people could understand that climate change has always been going on. And thankfully we go thru those changes, I'm happy to not coexist with dinosaurs. Except that those climate change events occurred a slower rate that allowed for adaptation and evolution. What's happening now is at such an alarming speed that adaptation and evolution are near impossible. I suppose a few million years from now whatever new species inhabits earth after we've ruined it will be saying "I'm happy to not coexist with dinosaurs."

climate change has always been going on. And people died in huge numbers in famines - esp. w/the droughts. I don't think we want to go back there.

We're talking accelerated climate changed based on the actions of humans. There is so much involved beyond oh yeah, climate always changes. It has historically changed but in the past 100 years or so add mass fossil fuel usage, landfill waste and decomposition, intensive agriculture and deforestation.

. I suppose a few million years from now whatever new species inhabits earth after we've ruined it will be saying "I'm happy to not coexist with dinosaurs." the problem is, a lot of our legislators and the people (mainly old white men more concerned with amassing $$$ for themselves than helping the planet) who run the big businesses ARE dinosaurs- in their way of thinking, at least. Otherwise they WOULD have looked at this and tried to do something sooner rather than leaving it waaaay too late.

I am well aware of our horrific involvement in climate change and by no means am I trying to downplay how outrageous we humans as a whole are. Though I won't contend that we are the sole cause. And not because I think I'm some sort of smarty clown. Like or not climate change will happen and the non believers have plenty historically to look back on, but they dont, therefore they will do nothing to stop it now. And some of these non believers are in powerful positions with followers galore. I hope they come around soon. Bolded portion, not cool.

People are unwilling to make changes they see as difficult, uncomfortable, or interfering with their freedom. Covid taught us all that.

If your post was not a denial of climate change, I apologize for the misunderstanding. Climate change has existed for millions of years comes across as a denial of climate change, it's one of the arguments the deniers frequently use. There are significant and important differences between climate change when the dinosaurs were around and our current situation.

aj2hall I am in no way, shape, or form a climate change denier. That I promise. 😇 My statement was meant as a further simple thing that some vehemently deny, that is absolutely a problem. I could have stated it better.

If I had a dollar for every time we have a cold snap and someone I know posts something like "Ah, it snowed in the mountains today, so much for global warming!" blah blah blah. Listen Alan, global warming and climate change doesn't mean it's never going to get cold again you twit, and you'll be dead before shit gets really real. It'll be your grandkids who will be left with the mess you made. "Extreme heat weather warning issued in the UK by the Met Office for the first time ever, for parts of Wales and southern England" To be fair, the "extreme heat warning" is for temperatures of only 33 C / 91 F, which to me is a perfect beach day, so......

I see you've met my dad. I find it hard to be civil sometimes, when he spouts this, or his other one - his 40 or so years of smoking are not the cause of his lung and heart problems. And it's not that he is uneducated - he has a degree in physics, so you'd think he would understand scientific method, but no! It is probably a good thin I live half a world away from him sometimes. And with the weather - my opinion of 'extreme heat' and 'really cold' has changed a lot since I moved from Australia to Europe. When your 'average' summer day is 25-28, and you have no air-conditioning, then 33-35 is REALLY hot.
