"Extreme heat weather warning issued in the UK by the Met Office for the first time ever, for parts of Wales and southern England" To be fair, the "extreme heat warning" is for temperatures of only 33 C / 91 F, which to me is a perfect beach day, so...... And with the weather - my opinion of 'extreme heat' and 'really cold' has changed a lot since I moved from Australia to Europe. When your 'average' summer day is 25-28, and you have no air-conditioning, then 33-35 is REALLY hot. I was actually coming back to edit my post...... Big Brother must be spying on me, because just after I posted my little dig at UK's weather, this popped up on my Facebook feed:

AussieMeg lol at the Facebook post because it's absolutely true! To be honest part of the current overheating problem is that our homes are built to retain heat, insulated attics, insulated double brick walls, double or tripled glazed windows, no veranda etc AND no air con!

On a seriousnote, China is experiencing excessive rainfall and flooding too www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-57861067Massive floods in central China caused by record-breaking rainfall have left 12 people dead and more than 100,000 evacuated from their homes. More than a dozen cities in Henan province, including its provincial capital Zhengzhou, are affected. Footage circulating online shows people wading in chest-high levels of water on roads and at train stations. President Xi Jinping said on Wednesday the "flood prevention situation was very severe" and at a "critical stage". He added that the floods had already resulted in "significant loss of life and damage to property", and instructed all departments to prioritise "the safety of people and their property", according to state news agency Xinhua. Henan province, home to about 94 million people, has issued its highest level of weather warning. Local authorities called the floods a "once in 100 years" event. More in link. The video of people up to the chests in brown water in a tube carriage is scary.

If I had a dollar for every time we have a cold snap and someone I know posts something like "Ah, it snowed in the mountains today, so much for global warming!" blah blah blah. Listen Alan, global warming and climate change doesn't mean it's never going to get cold again you twit, and you'll be dead before shit gets really real. It'll be your grandkids who will be left with the mess you made. "Extreme heat weather warning issued in the UK by the Met Office for the first time ever, for parts of Wales and southern England" To be fair, the "extreme heat warning" is for temperatures of only 33 C / 91 F, which to me is a perfect beach day, so...... It was the health warning system they used that was the" first time ever" The system is new and hasn't been used before. We've had temperatures higher than these last few days before. The tweet was badly worded.

To bad we can’t get some of that water to dump on the wildfires burning in the West.

The smoke from the fires out west has made it to the East Coast. In NYC yesterday we had a pink sun in the evening, an orange moon at night, and you could see the smoke in the air. Today our AQI is at 139, but yesterday I'm sure it was higher. It was somewhat noticeable in midtown Manhattan but very apparent over the water during my ferry ride home! I took some photos, these are from 7:20-7:40(ish)pm:

With all we have learned about precious ice ages and scorched earth times, you would think people could understand that climate change has always been going on. And thankfully we go thru those changes, I'm happy to not coexist with dinosaurs. Is that the new line re climate change?

My son just got back from the Bootleg fire. He spent two weeks there. It is only mid July. I can't imagine what the rest of the fire season is going to bring. His wife and kids will probably see very little of him well into the fall.

A timely reminder that the most powerful action to limit the damages of human activity on the climate is voting. Don't let yourself get trapped in the individual shame bubble that distorts the narrative and takes the focus away from the big polluters (which is not to say you should embrace single use plastics). The big polluters are paying a lot of money to distract the public. Don't fall for it. Vote. And try to lure your environmentally-minded, climate change-believing friends back to the polls (because they're voting in the smallest numbers, alas).

Imagine seeing this from your front porch.
Put aside the scariness of seeing this out your front door this is a good picture. You have the fire in the background and a retardant drop in the front.

My ex father in law is a climate change denier. Frustrating. My now husband, an environmental scientist, tried to have a conversation with him about it after he made a comment about global warming being fake. Didn’t go well.

My parents drove home from Lake Almanor yesterday. They have a summer home on the peninsula and have owned it since 1974. I spend every summer as a child there and at least a week each summer as my kids grew up. The Dixie Fire is currently 5 miles away. The whole area is on fire.

I’m so glad I no longer live with a climate change denier. Seriously, every summer the wildfires here make me sick with worry. They never happened when we first moved here 20 years ago.

In the past couple of years some of the biggest fires started late summer through October. It’s July with several more months to go before rainy season starts.

I would rather be "woke" then anti-science. In the end, I know who will come out on the right side of history.

Well…there is really only one party in complete denial and refusing to do anything about it and blocks legislation to help to combat it, and pulls the USA from world climate discussions…
