My soon to be 9th grade girl doesn't always make the best choices for breakfast (if she even eats anything) and is then starving by lunch. She then makes unhealthy choices for lunch because she wants something quick. We are trying to brainstorm breakfast ideas that she can make herself but will keep her satisfied until lunch. High school lunch will have so many more choices and I want her to not be so starving my lunch that she gives into unhealthy temptations. She really isn't too picky and is willing to try new things.
What are your kiddo's go to breakfast?

Well, porridge with a topping would be a good choice as it releases energy slowly and would keep her going til lunch. Maybe a banana midway through the morning.
Eggs in some form, scrambled With toast (a few minutes to prepare) or an omelette with cheese, mushrooms, tomatoes, takes a little longer to make
How much time does she consider quick?

When my kids were that age, I made breakfast burritos for them to grab, microwave for a minute, then they were out the door. I made them every other week with scrambled eggs, cheese, and either bacon or sausage. I assembled them, individually wrapped them in plastic wrap, and then froze them in a big ziplock bag. I also made blueberry bran muffins and they pulled those out the night before. They weren't necessarily low calorie, but they were real food made with healthy, whole wheat ingredients. Toast or bagels with peanut butter was another popular option for them.
ETA: I forgot a step—unwrap the burritos and heat them in a paper towel so that they don’t get soggy.

I make individual egg cups or a frittata or something with the ingredients each person wants and then all they need to do is pop it in the microwave.
Ds likes bacon and cheese in his. Sometimes he will add spinach or green Chile's
Dh like a Denver omelet type filling

You can make and freeze egg muffins. You can add anything you prefer cheese, ham, spinach, peppers etc put it in muffin tins and bake. We found parchment paper liners worked best. We tried just oiling the pan, regular papers and silicone cups.
Overnight oats with some frozen berries, hemp hearts and chai seeds is what DD also likes to do.

MY ds has a smoothie everyday. One banana, a half a cup of high protein greek yogurt, a tablespoon of peanut butter, milk and a squirt of chocolate sauce.
I think he had one every day of high school and now he works a physically deamnding construction job and it keeps him full from 6:00am until 10:30 coffee break.
He gets up at 5 so he puts everything in the blender but the frozen banana the night before and puts it in the fridge adds the banana in the morning and hits blend for 20 seconds, pours it into a togo cup and is out the door in about 15 minutes

One of my sons makes breakfast burritos on Sundays and freezes them for the week. He's in grad school, but it's the same thing. He isn't always hungry in the morning, but if he doesn't eat then he's starving later and goes for whatever is fastest. The breakfast burritos keep him satisfied and keep his blood sugar balanced. Your dd might be craving carbs and sugar by lunchtime if she's not eating properly in the am, because her sugars have tanked.

OK, I have a question for those of you that make egg cups/muffins. Are they rubbery when you reheat them? I got super into making those a couple years ago but the texture was so gross when they were reheated. Like chewing on tires. And the vegetable fillings all seemed to get really watery.

I like breakfast burritos for work. I've frozen them but I find that they just don't reheat as well. I'm back in the office now a couple of days a week and so I've been making enough eggs and mix ins for a few days time and then each morning I take out a small portion, heat it up in the microwave and throw it in a tortilla and roll it up. Better than frozen IMO but very quick and easy.

We rotate between a couple of options.
Something like the protein boxes at Starbucks. They will eat a boiled egg with fruit and cheese sometimes with a bread product. They get to school early so they usually take it to go and eat at school.
Yogurt parfaits made for the week. Greek yogurt, fruit and granola.
Bagels with an added protein (meat, egg)

We freeze a lot of healthy pancakes/waffles that they can pop in the toaster. Usually they eat them plain or with just a sprinkle of powdered sugar. The Kodiak mixes are a good option for this too.
Make ahead breakfast sandwiches or burritos are good.

And the vegetable fillings all seemed to get really water If adding spinach I squeeze it to remove as much water as possible and pat it dry with a paper towel. Other vegetables are dried after washing and before chopping. The egg cups are wrapped tightly in the frig or freezer, and reheated in a toaster oven instead of the microwave. I’ll probably switch to the air fryer since it’s faster than a toaster oven and is really a convection oven.

Breakfast wraps are easy to make and easy to change up the ingredients. Egg and cheese. Add some ham. Some chopped vegetables. Microwave for a yummy breakfast. Another day you can spread the wrap with peanut butter, add a banana.
And Egg Bites. Like they make at Starbucks. There are lots of copycat recipes on the internet.
Or a smoothie. We have premade smoothie packs with frozen fruit. Toss the pre-measured fruit into the blender, cover with the liquid of your choice and you have breakfast in a quick minute.

Cheese, fruit, nuts. Sort of like a cheeseboard in a tupperware box. Smoothies - I like banana, cocoa powder, milk, ice, and spinach together. I also add a pitted date sometimes. Her favorite sandwich -- nobody says you HAVE to eat breakfast food for breakfast. Avocado toast. Sometimes I top it with a fried egg. But it takes just a couple minutes to put together. TJ's Everything But the Bagel spice on top.

DD who is 15 loves these. She can pop in the microwave while she's getting ready and then eats in the car on the way to school. She loves them, they come in apple flavor too

Does she like hard boiled eggs? I always hard boil 12 at one time then put them in the fridge still in their shell. Easy to grab one, peel, eat. Overnight oats? Personally I don't care for them but my dd loves them done like that. She adds various things... peanut butter, or yogurt, or raisins, or whatever she's in the mood for. Something non-breakfasty? sliced turkey/ham and cheese rolled up. Yogurt with various toppings? I make my yogurt plain (but of course you can just buy it) then add various things -- honey, jam, granola, fruit, etc. Not all at once of course.

My kids aren't big breakfast eaters but always had a baggie of Cheerios and a couple protein bars (Kind, Clif, etc.) in their backpacks if they got hungry midmorning.

I second/third the breakfast burrito idea. The kids will eat these Monday through Wednesday - as they get sick of them after that. I try to change up the fillings (chorizo, bacon or sausage, always with egg, sometimes with potato, sometimes with cheese). They may eat junky 2 days a week, but I find that they generally eat OK. With the school lunch money app - I can see exactly what they are buying at school, so it's helpful. I see that they eat a lot of yogurt and fresh fruit at school for breakfast. Sometimes they're buying a pop tart, but that's OK.

I think you have to get to the WHY behind her choices and cater to that, or it won't matter what choices you have available for her. My DD doesn't like to eat when she first gets up, so for her, I needed something she could grab and eat on the way to school or in class (if allowed), because it wasn't going to happen any earlier for her. The easiest options were things like nuts, crackers with peanut butter or cheese, jerky, protein bars, etc. - essentially, grab and go protein-heavy snacks. She is happy to eat bacon and eggs or a breakfast burrito on Saturday when she has been up 2 hours already, but it isn't going to happen on a school day.

We make a huge batch of breakfast burritos and keep them individually wrapped in the freezer. My kids pull one and out and put in the microwave for 60 seconds and can eat it on the go. You can totally customize to what your kiddo likes but we do hashbrowns, breakfast sausage, green chili, cheese and eggs. I make 60ish at a time and do it about once a month. My kids also eat toast, cereal or yogurt parfaits. I have 2 kids that do early morning sports practices so I get up and have breakfast waiting for them to grab when they walk out the door or they often times don't eat either.

(no kids but a hungry boyfriend who would rather sleep in than get up early enough for food making) I batch make breakfast sandwiches. They're made with eggs (cooked in a makeshift egg round.. aka the ring to a mason jar ), a meat, and either a quarter square of sliced cheese (we've found this size to be the least slippery and messy on reheat) or a sprinkle of shredded. All on an english muffin. They get wrapped in paper towels and a few are put in the fridge and the rest in the freezer. Then he just pops them in the microwave while he's getting ready and eats on the way to work. When I have more time and care to do it.. lol, I'll also do breakfast burritos. Basically the same ingredients in a different vessel. Some mornings he'll take a yogurt and a fruit if he's not super hungry or if his lunch is packed with lots of leftovers.

I make the breakfast burrito's and keep a lot in the freezer. I try to make an assortment and have salsa on hand.
I also buy croissants from Sam's. I'll make eggs, bacon or ham and I'll assemble them, warm them up in the air fryer and hand them out as they go. it seems to help with them not getting bored with breakfast.
Does anyone else's kids drink coffee in the morning? Mine mostly grabs a coke or juice bottle but this summer my son 16 yr old has gotten a taste for coffee in the morning before work. I'm worried if I let him during school if he will crash. He says some kids carry thermos' and the teachers have to check them and usually they have coffee or tea.

Costco sells excellent egg bites. I eat breakfast on my bowling mornings and they keep me full until lunch time. Just a minute in the microwave.

egg casserole. you can put whatever they like in it. make a pan and it will last several days.
my daughter has been making baked oatmeal. same, you make it once and it will last several days.
if you had items (sausage or bacon, potatoes, onion, whatever you like to use) already prepped, you could make a scramble easily in the morning. (if your people don't like the reheated eggs)
