I don't think I could bring myself to use scrapping supplies from 25 years ago. Mrs. Grossman stickers from then?

I personally like the freedom to mix and match old and new and everything in between too much. I take great pleasure in knowing that I have used products that range from the newest in my stash to amongst the oldest. I would love to see how this project goes for your friend and if she sticks to that model or makes changes along the way. I know that I couldn't do it just for the fact that I like to mix and match, also I have so much stuff now that I could never tell when it is from so that system is out for me.

Like others have said, I sort of do this with my PL kits, mainly because they have some items with dates, but also because the seasonal items work well. I do mix in other things too, but want to be sure to use any dated items. š
Itās an interesting way to tackle stash!

I havenāt gone so far as to sort my stash by year, but I have a rough sense of when I purchased something and I tend to gravitate towards the older stuff when scrapping older photos.
Also, I took a long pause on scrapping (and buying) while my kids were little, so my stash is still kind of separated by Era 1 and Era 2.
The sorting exactly by year process doesnāt sound fun to me, but if it serves her purpose, good for her!

Interesting approach. I donāt think it would work for me, I donāt think that way. I donāt scrap chronologically, I skip around. So, my scrapbooks do have a mix of older & newer stuff and styles. Iām OK with that. I scrap the same way as you. Itās really whatever photos inspire me at that moment.

I have never thought of doing this and frankly, while I love a new idea, that would make my head explode. When I read the thread title I thought of organizing the supplies by year like, one year old - all stuff you have to use for a one year old, two year old, 10 year old etc, OR, organize by what I would use to scrap 1999 for example. If I have picnic photos, I pull picnic stuff, so start with New Year through Christmas.
Organizing by the year something was sold would never work for me. I could not own a gorgeous piece of 2010 Christmas paper but pass it by to use a piece of paper from 1995 because my photos are from 1995. And it would never help me make any kind of use of my stash. I probably had gingham checks paper in every color, so my 1998 album with be gingham overload.
Good luck to her. Interesting thought. Would love to see how they come out.

I wonder how sheād address finding old supplies that have not aged well. As in, actually deteriorated over time. Like epoxy stickers that are yellowed, flair thatās rusted, layered embellishments that gave come apart due to glues not lasting, etc.

The sorting exactly by year process doesnāt sound fun to me, but if it serves her purpose, good for her! I could have written this post, but I think I have three eras. When my big boys were little: early 2000ās. Lots of cutesy doodle bug stuff and those goofy cartoony titles, I think they were from a company called ābig ideasā or something? Iād get bunches of them from a LSS. Then era 2 - when 2peas was the place to be and I had tons of textured bazill and a mountain of MM metal embellishments. Then era 3 - more or less the last 8 years. I have major creative blocks trying to scrap pics from a certain time frame without using that eraās stuff. As a result I donāt scrap those older pics because itās such a hang up. Like a language barrier, but with the time-space-creative continuum.

*UPDATE*
Since my acquaintance's scrapbooking purchases were stored & labeled by year in her craft room closet, organizing over two decades of supplies was less time-consuming than expected. Cardstock, tools, & generic embellishments (e.g. sequins) bought over the years had become part of her cardmaking inventory that can be used on any layout. Her photos & memorabilia were not already stored together, so they required much more time to gather & sort than her supplies.
Once everything was organized, she reports her unique approach works well. She plans the order of photos/memorabilia in the album, then adds coordinating cardstock & tools to the yearās supplies to create an album kit. Having bought few full collections, she enjoys mixing/matching supplies from various manufacturers. Scraps are kept & used on subsequent layouts, plus supplies are gotten from & moved into the next year as needed. She noted her first album is finished & the second album underway!

PaperAngel - it sounds like it's working really well for her. Storing it all by year, I'm sure, has made it easier.

I'm glad to hear it's working well for her and she seems to be getting her layouts completed pretty quickly. Thanks for coming back to update us, I thought of this post recently.

Thanks for the update! I am glad it worked for her and it makes some sense. It wouldn't work for me.

Thanks for updating us! Iām glad itās working for her. I always enjoy hearing about unique ways to use your stash or get motivated. Sounds like some of the decisions are already made with this method, leaving the creative energy to create the pages vs figuring out product.
