"Alabama Republican Gov. Kay Ivey on Thursday called out "the unvaccinated folks" for the rise in Covid-19 cases in her state, a remarkable plea at a time when many GOP leaders are refusing to urge people to get vaccinated even as Covid-19 cases surge in many parts of the country. " Folks are supposed to have common sense. But it's time to start blaming the unvaccinated folks, not the regular folks. It's the unvaccinated folks that are letting us down," Ivey told reporters in Birmingham. Alabama is the least vaccinated state in the country, with roughly 33.9% of residents fully vaccinated, according to data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Average daily Covid-19 cases in Alabama are nearly double what they were a week ago, and more than four times higher than they were two weeks ago." www.cnn.com/2021/07/23/politics/alabama-governor-kay-ivey-unvaccinated-covid/index.htmlIt's about time someone braves up and says it. "Alabama has received billions in federal relief funds from the stimulus package passed by Congress and signed by President Joe Biden earlier this year. The state has offered some small incentives to get vaccinated, including offering two laps around the Talladega Superspeedway in May. But unlike other states, Alabama has not used the federal relief money for an incentive program, scholarships or lotteries, AL.com has reported. Earlier this month, Ivey said there was no need for an incentive plan for vaccinations. On Thursday, Ivey insisted that she's done "all I know how to do" in managing the situation. When asked what it would take to get more people to get shots, she replied, "I don't know, you tell me."" Maybe teach them to stop putting their childish beliefs in front of data, facts, evidence and science? Just a thought, Gov.

I thank her for finally speaking up. I fear that anti-vaxers are now so dead set against the vaccine that many of them will still refuse to get it. I really hope that insurance companies start pooling people who can get the vaccine but won’t. Why should the rest of us pay for their stubbornness?

I think she would have had more luck if she had called on folks to emulate their grandparents of WW2 - the selflessness of putting country before self and the bravery of doing scary things.

Why is the Republican party changing their tune all of the sudden? Should we be grateful or scared?

Wow, imagine that. I hate to say "good for her" because honestly she should have been saying this all along. But still, it does take bravery to speak up in this climate. She'll start getting threats I'm sure.
I see comments on social media that the far right is super pissed that even some of Fox News's talking heads are encouraging everyone to get vaccinated and they are literally saying now that they must have been threatened or bribed and now they are going to even start boycotting Fox for it. The rampant stupidity is killing me.

Why is the Republican party changing their tune all of the sudden? Should we be grateful or scared? Because their moron cult followers are the only ones getting sick and dying. They are going to lose their voters so now they are scared. I'm guessing it's all about polling that has been done recently.

Maybe this will get them to think twice about a few of their other closely held false beliefs.
Then again, maybe I’m just an optimist.

Next stop on the disinformation train: Republicans taking credit for people getting vaccinated. honestly, I would not care one bit if it got people to vaccinate. Get it done. I wish Trump himself would go on his pulpit before his followers, raise his arms outstretched, and say "heal thyselves by getting your vaccinations"..and they all go and come back and worship at his feet for saving them. I would not care. Go head on, people. Go head on. <shooing them into line>

Why is the Republican party changing their tune all of the sudden? Should we be grateful or scared? Not scared... They are doing it after they realized their red voters are dying.. they are also afraid that their voters will realize they GOP has been lying to them all along!

Why is the Republican party changing their tune all of the sudden? Should we be grateful or scared? 1. They were fine when it was killing mostly POC in blue states. Now it's hitting their own - hard. 2. They realized that if their voters die at a 99:1 ratio, it will not be good. 3. The stock market went down on fears of another surge, and it probably cost a few of them (or their backers) some $$$$. 4. They got some bad polling numbers.

Thank goodness our Republican Governor Mike DeWine has been touting the vaccine all along here in Ohio. Our state has offered free bus rides, taxi rides pretty much every thing available trying to get the vaccine to everyone.

I think at this point it’s too little too late. I saw a post on a local group snd some guy was spouting that since it’s now been proven that Biden didn’t get 80 million votes and if those numbers could be faked so are the number of vaccinated there is no way that half the population has been vaccinated lol.
I honestly don’t think anything is going to change their minds at this point. Maybe if enough people start dying again but I have heard people saying it’s fake because if this was a true pandemic there would be dead bodies in the streets. LA had to drop its environmental rules to allow for more cremations and air quality sucked. Trying to find a place for the bodies in January was an issue places were full. Some people are just too stupid for words. Of course they said that this was a lie and said the hospitals weren’t full when they were to.
Even if it won’t change many minds I do hope more will speak the truth about the vaccines. Maybe it will save some.
I to wouldn’t put it passed some to latter say they were for them all along.

He has, but the rest of the Republicans have been towing the party line and discouraging vaccination and are currently trying to pass laws that make it illegal to require any vaccinations. And our vaccination rate is still not great at 46% fully vaccinated and 49% with one dose and what’s looking like a new surge of the delta variant. And the rural areas are generally in the 30% range.

Our state has offered free bus rides, taxi rides pretty much every thing available trying to get the vaccine to everyone. My daughter lives in Maryland and I am thankful that the Republican governor Larry Hogan has used good sense during the pandemic. It feels like certain states and groups of people are at the second part of the "Fuck around and find out" stage. Right now in MN we are experiencing very low rates infection and if an unvaccinated person got it done in the next few days they would be fully immunized by the time everyone starts to head back inside. I'm going to be very pissed if I or someone else in my family gets Covid. Even though it would likely be an insignificant case it would still disrupt our lives. I have zero patience for the people who won't get vaccinated. I don't know if what is going on in these other states will serve as a warning to them.

Dh calls it Dipshit instead of Delta because it is the dipshits that don't get vaccinated that are the majority getting and becoming sick from this strain

I am from Alabama (have family and friends still there). I now live in Colorado. I was with my dad this morning waiting with him for an eye appt. He leaned over and asked me if I knew what Alabama's governor had said. I rolled my eyes and sighed, shifted closer in... "what now??" When he told me, I immediately looked it up. I was actually shocked that she said the things she did. It's way past time and probably not enough, but it's a step in the right direction.
“Folks are supposed to have common sense. But it’s time to start blaming the unvaccinated folks, not the regular folks. It’s the unvaccinated folks that are letting us down,” Ivey told reporters in Birmingham.
---------------------------------------------------------------
For grins...
As of 6 a.m. EDT July 22, a total of 162,174,165 Americans had been fully vaccinated, or 48.8 percent of the country's population, according to the CDC's data.
15. Colorado Number of people fully vaccinated: 3,096,731 Percentage of population fully vaccinated: 53.77
51. Alabama Number of people fully vaccinated: 1,662,812 Percentage of population fully vaccinated: 33.91

Listen to this drivel.
Then look at the size of the audience.
Then weep for your fellow human that they are so unable to reason.

I honestly don’t think anything is going to change their minds at this point. This is the issue w/cults. I saw a thing where trump half heartedly said get the vaccine and one of his own supporters called him a liberal from New York and they were refusing to listen to him. What happens in the cult when they turn on the leader?!
