I have a couple subscriptions that I enjoy. I recently cut back on my subs and cancelled my Coco and Reno money dies and stamps and Spellbinders because I was collecting too many dies that I just wasn’t using at the pace I was receiving them. I now have two monthly subs that I get—ScrapRoom and Cocoa Daisy. I really like them both, but I’m getting to the point where I’m collecting at a pace that is WAY beyond my using it up pace. I’m hesitant to cancel because I do look forward to receiving them each month, but I haven’t been using them up, especially since I’ve been in a crafting rut over the past couple of months. The cost isn’t an issue, especially since I’ve cut back on purchasing, but I don’t know where the line is between scrapping and collecting! What’s your limit on when to cancel a sub? It’s already too late in the month to cancel Cocoa Daisy, so I have time to think about that one! (For those of you who know that the sub/cancel process for them is more complex than other subs. Now that I’m in, I don’t know if I want to go through it again to resub in the future! )

I tend to only cancel for either financial reasons or if I'm not enjoying/get bored of the designs and products. But if I like the products and can afford it, I tend to keep my subs, even if I'm not scrapping or crafting as much as I would like.

I think people fall along a spectrum: some enjoy collecting and it’s a hobby too or a big part of paper crafting. And others see it as total waste of money to not use what they have. So on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being “only buy what you will definitely use” and 5 being “the more supplies, the more fun,” where do you fall?
I think I’m a 2+ but have been buying like a 4. That makes me uncomfortable and more purging has been happening.
I subbed to three or four kits, not all at the same time, and when I realized I loved opening them and going through the goodies but didn’t use much, I forced myself to cancel. I loved opening up the boxes and looking through the goodies, so it wasn’t without reluctance!

" ComplicatedLady" but I don’t know where the line is between scrapping and collecting! WAIT! There's an actual line? I always thought they were part and parcel.

My feelings on this ebb and flow. Ok have canceled in the past for the money aspect, when my dollars are more priority to me than the supplies. Sometimes the lines are so delightful that they are worth the $ to me, and when they’re “meh” I feel more miserly. If there’s a streak of subs I’m not pleased with I will cancel without regret. I know I can always resub in the future, nothing’s forever!
I’ll be unsubscribing from AE’s Story Kit after the next one because I can predict the next several months of themes don’t resonate with me. But I suspect I’ll be signing back on at some point in the future.
Reminding myself that I can change my mind whenever I want, and that I’m the boss of my hobby is very liberating and keeps it enjoyable.

I just canceled my Club Echo Park subscription because the papers are not always what I’ll use for my layouts. But then I turned around and subbed to their card kit!
It’s a sickness, I tell ya!

Can you put a hold in it vs cancelling? Give yourself a couple of months to scarpbook and use product, then go back?

I've cancelled for both money and boredom with the designs. I got rid of the AE story kit and stamps because her color palettes aren't to my taste a lot of the time (I favor cooler tones), and it is expensive to just get them m2m. I do have an annual sub to the SBTM kit, but I'll probably cancel it again in December once my year is up.
I have an annual subscription for KP/Paper Person, and while I've been disappointed with the 3x4 stamp sets over the past two months, it is generally worth it to me to keep the annual sub for the early access to the shop, free shipping for add ons, and subber discounts.
I've been looking at my non crafty subs lately, and I've decided to cancel them all. Ipsy just never sent me what I wanted and Causebox (now Alltrue) has increased their shipping times while their quality has decreased (and I disliked how they made their new member boxes/welcome boxes better than their seasonal boxes). I'm cancelling Fabfitfun because the fall box doesn't excite me at all, and I buy way too much during their add on and edit sales.
I just lost my job, so I'm glad I'd made the decision about my subscriptions before I lost the job - it will make it much less painful to let go of those things without feeling like I'm making a big sacrifice.

I feel this so much. I love getting scrappy treats in the mail but I am a slow scrapper so if I have too many subs it just piles up. I limit myself to just one at a time. Right now that's Coco Daisy. Then I will pay the higher price if there's a kit from somewhere and I love it, typically FJ or Elle Studio. I decided I would rather spend a little more on products I love instead of have a bunch pile up in my scrap room. I recently did a big purge so that's helping me keep accountable.

I quit Hip Kit last year because my kits were piling up. The kits are fantastic but I fell behind traveling for work all of the time. I have found that I prefer buying collections that I like rather than subbing. I can pick and choose what I want.

I tried to quit Hip Kit earlier this year for the same reason, but I ended up re-subbing before I missed a month because I loved the next kit. Now I just deal with the piles....and I have had some time to scrap, so I have made a little dent in my stash.

I cancel when I find I'm not using anything from the kit. I had a short run with Cocoa Daisy-I LOVED the product-but it's nothing I can scrap book with. I canceled AE Story kit and Stamp both last year, but I will resub with some of the upcoming Story Kits.

I'm not currently subscribing to any kits, but in the past I've cancelled when the kits start to pile up and/or I stop loving them.

The only long term scrapbook subs I’ve had are AE. I have canceled a few times over the years when I felt uninspired or tired of the product, or if the upcoming themes don’t interest me. I’ve been subbing here and there monthly for a theme I really like. I really have too much stuff and am a bad FOMO buyer.
Non scrapbook related subs I’ve had and LOVED (Book of the Month & The Crafters Workshop) I canceled both when life got too busy and the boxes were piling up.
I have zero subs at the moment and while I miss the monthly treats it’s also freeing. I’ve just been trying to use my stash, read from my TBR stack or go to the library.

I cancelled my Spellbinders sub because too many of the dies were ones I wouldn’t use.
The only other sub I have ever had is my Silhouette subscription, but I get to choose the cutting files. I may cancel it this time, rather than let it renew, but I haven’t made up my mind yet. I just have so many cutting files now that I am thinking it’s time to be done.
Every time I have been tempted to subscribe, I look at past months’ offerings of the company. It usually makes me realize that I don’t want to subscribe because there would be too many items that I wouldn’t use.

When things get repetitive and I no longer get excited by the sub, when money gets tight, or when I have too many kits piling up. But, when I really love a sub, I’ll do everything I can to keep it.

I've subscribed for almost 3 years and I'm done after August until at least May of next year. in the past I've cancelled when the kits start to pile up and/or I stop loving them. This is me. My AE kits have piled up and I feel guilty not using them.

This is me, but I generally don’t have multiple kits going. I have been a Cocoa Daisy subscriber for years, but am getting ready to finally quit because I have multiple kits stacked up that I want to use, and I am finding that the kits are too heavily themed for the way I usually scrap now (I sub to the Modern Memory Keeping kit). I bought a couple of Hip Kit Club kits, and am really loving getting a 12x12 kit again, so I think I will drop Cocoa Daisy and sub to Hip Kit instead. I also sub to the Paper Person kit, and won’t give that one up.

I have quit clubs for financial reasons or because I get bored with them. I recently quit Hip Kit because I had too much product piled up.

I think collecting is OK (within reason)! If these kits inspire you, and you said money was not an issue and you do really like them, and you will probably use them in time, I think it is OK to keep the subs for awhile. If you don't get the kits, and later the pieces that make up the kit are sold out, would that make you feel worse to have missed out? Or do you feel worse if you get them and not use them?
For me, I feel like the selection for new supplies isn't all that great at this point in time, so if a kit inspired me and captured the essence of the "best of" current products, I would keep it provided cost is not an issue. I guess I am worried the selection will be worse next year.
Although, I'm someone who is so happy to have "overbought" a bit (relative to what I actually use) during scrapbooking's heyday so I have more stash to work with now when the buying choices are more limited. So you can tell I'm leaning into that experience.

I rejoined Spellbinders back in June. I had cancelled prior for same reason - back to back months of items I didn't love. I signed up again and like everything so far, I just need to get back in the habit of checking the items when they reveal them at the start of the month and if I don't like it, make sure to skip that month so I dont get charged.
Can I ask how you are liking the Scraproom kits? I am on the design team and have to create a Recipe each month and I sweat over those because those go specifically to subscribers to follow along and recreate a layout with if they want to. I also have certain rules to follow when I use the kits, so I am always curious what it is like to have free for all and do anything with them.

I have space issues, as well as guilt about wasting money on things I’m not using. I am not subbed to anything and I don’t miss any of the subs I did have. Since having to relocate to a smaller craft space I’ve been purging. I still need to do more. I actually feel much lighter and more inspired not being bogged down by too much stuff and too many choices.
All that said, it really depends on you. If you can afford it, don’t feel bad about collecting, keep on keeping on. It’s buyers like you who contribute a lot to the choices all of us have. If manufacturers relied on people like me, they’d all go out of business.

I won't lie, I love to open packages 😆. I have 3 sub going right now and I do use all of them. I make a point using them.
I'm trying to decide about Coco&Reno, I like the dies, but some months they are just ok. I do have the lower price locked in and I think that's why I have a harder time with canceling and join in next month when I like the dies.
I quit and I'm back with Spellbinders, now I make sure that I get what I want, they made the process much easier. They always get me with those flower dies 🙄-i think it was January when I got the large dies just because they had these really small flower dies.

I'm not a collector by nature. My brain just doesn't work that way. So, for me, a sub becomes a burden when it piles up and becomes a collection rather than pretty immediate inspiration. I like to work in the moment with subs. I might make exceptions for very specifically themed products I know will be used for planned projects but otherwise, I have a let's-break-into-this-and-start-using-it mindset.
It's not the same for others, though. Some people really enjoy having the full set or knowing they've got all the supplies from a particular vendor from the past X months/years. As long as the collection's not a burden (finances, physical space, mental space, stress/worry), I see no problem with this although I'd hope they'd be comfortable breaking away from the sub if it wasn't satisfying anymore. Sometimes there's something better out there and you just need to take a leap of faith to let go of one thing to find another...

Spellbinders no longer allows skipping a month and they bill on the 5th of the month. Doesn’t give you much time to decide if you want to cancel altogether. I cancelled my both of my subscriptions because of that.

I will say, challenging myself to use up my backlogged subscriptions before I can re-sub has been a good motivator for me in the past.

I cancelled the subscriptions I had for two reasons: 1) They were all starting to look the same month after month; and 2) I just cannot justify the costs of subscriptions of any kind any more on my limited, fixed income. This includes Amazon Prime. I will not be renewing with them at the end of the year, either.
I'm learning to use what I have (and I have a lot).

I cancel when a subscription is not meeting my needs anymore. Whether that be my recent foray from traditional scrapbooking to project life or that I'm not using the kits because they don't seem suitable for my aesthetic anymore. I quit Scraproom a while back before I turned to project life. The kits were piling up because they just weren't my style. I had picked up a few random Hip Kits and that seemed more my style. So when I turned over to project life, I quit all 12x12 kits and I went with Hip Kit's pocket kit. I like that it's kind of monthly because I am a chronological scrapbooker. (my books are all current) and then just recently I subbed to AE story kit because that looked fun to me and was in my price point.
I am a small stash scrapper so I want to ensure that what I'm bringing in will actually be used by me. And on the regular. No piling up for me.

It’s already too late in the month to cancel Cocoa Daisy, so I have time to think about that one! (For those of you who know that the sub/cancel process for them is more complex than other subs. Now that I’m in, I don’t know if I want to go through it again to resub in the future! ) And that’s a big reason why I’ve not signed up for subs. I found the online papercraft community through Studio Calico and their manipulative subscription process. Cocoa Daisy has always intrigued me but their process annoys me and I tend to rebel against that kind of thing. I did end up getting their Christmas kit last year as a one-off and found it didn’t suit my needs so that cured me of my fascination. Personally I prefer to choose my own stuff. I buy one-offs when I see a cardmaking sub release something I like but all the extra added bonuses that they include for value for money annoy me because they’re usually not things I would choose to buy and I’m not keen on collecting stash. But everyone has a different “clutter threshold” and most people don’t get overwhelmed by abundance like I do.

Thank you all for your input and ideas to think about. I’ve been thinking about it over the last few weeks and decided to cancel my Cocoa Daisy kits. I really like the kits but I just haven’t used one in so long. Plus, I forgot that I also get the Everyday Explorers mini book sub. I may regret it but I think my ScrapRoom and EE kits will keep me going for now.
