My MIL was saying it's $14.50 for 4lbs of Kirkland? Has anyone bought any there recently? That seems insane.

I'm going tomorrow as well, but don't want to skip it at Winco if it's that expensive at Costco.

SAMs club was $13.50. Butter prices are crazy. Luckily my local grocery store has land o lakes for $2.49/lb. I'm stocking up.

Butter is $4.99 a lb. at the regular grocery store here, so actually that doesn't seem like such a bad deal. I think I may pick some up for holiday baking.

I thought ours was $12.99 we just bought some but with the two of us we use it forever. We also freeze some of it.

Why are butter prices so high? Simply because they know we will pay? My grocery store has a good brand for 2.49 as well, I already bought a lot, but will have to buy more to stick in the freezer.

Aldi had it last week for under $2.50/lb. I bought 2, should have gotten more. Next time I go back, I'm going to stock up if it's still on sale .

I saw on the news the prices are high because we are exporting it more...so the reserves are low.

Oh, and a few years ago there was no butter left at the store due to all the holiday baking!

I just paid $9.49 for 4 lbs at Costco in NJ on Saturday. ETA Target has Land o Lakes butter in their ad this week for $7/lb.

Butter is up to $12 for 4 lbs at my Costco. Not long ago (less than a year) it was less than $8 ... it's crazy.

I've been buying a few pounds when I see it for $3 or less. I saw the ad from Target that said it was $7 as well and sort of panicked. Good to know it was a misprint.

It's on sale at the grocery store here 2 pounds for $5. I'm going tomorrow and plan to buy 10-12 pounds. I start caramel production right after Thankgiving and use tons of butter.

I found it on sale recently and bought several pounds to put in the freezer for upcoming baking. We got a box out the other day and realized it was those little half-sticks! It's still the same amount of butter... just twice the unwrapping. Haha.

Today's newspaper had all of the sale papers for the the grocery stores. I think they all have butter on sale this week. If you use it frequently, this week is probably a good time to stock up. With Christmas baking right around the corner, I'm sure it will be on sale again in the next couple of weeks.

I read an article in Bloomberg News this summer about prices soaring because our stockpiles are dwindling due to exportation. In August our Costco's 4 pack was $11 something. A week or so ago, it had actually dropped to $10 something for the 4 pack. I have about 20 lbs in my freezer right now.

I price matched it last week at Wally World.
Fry's/Kroger's had the Land o Lakes for $1.99/lb. I was very happy. I bought two pounds; it will probably take me two months to use it, depending on how much holiday baking I do.

Do they have Albertson's up there? Here in central WA it's on sale for 2 for $5. Just grab a ad when you walk in there is a coupon inside. Jen

Interesting about exporting it. I didn't realize butter was something that was exported. The things you learn from the peas!

I bought butter last week and it was $4.49 (or there abouts) at Publix. When it goes on sale, I stock up like no ones business. I bake all the time and use a butter regularly. I am not liking this increase in costs.
By the time I buy butter, milk, half and half, and bread, I have spent close to $15.

Butter flows through my veins. Say it isn't so. I NEED ME SOME BUTTER.
I know that organic butter is more expensive. Could she be talking about organic butter?
