About $500 in Atlantic City when I was 16. Bought the family dinner and gave the rest to my father. No, I was never carded, I was young and hot looking. Casinos back then like to have young , hot girls in the casinos.

I won $7500 in Albuquerque once. I was there for work for a few weeks and some colleagues from the bank we'd acquired wanted to go to the casino, so I played like $100 on the slots. Hit a small progressive jackpot on a $1 spin. The thing that sucked was it was early in my stay, I had all this cash, and the bank I worked for (and banked with) had no locations in the state, so I couldn't deposit it. It stressed me out to have so much cash on hand. I left most of it in the hotel safe, but even that wasn't comfortable for me.

I win playing Blackjack quite often. Well, we don't go to the casino very often, but when we do I always win a thousand or so.

She won $100,000 on that thing. The sad part is she gambled it all back away within a year. This is the same story for DH's sister. Their dad was a huge gambler/poker player. Picture the backroom of the coffee shop where chain smoking Greeks played with car keys, deeds and businesses thrown on the table before dawn. He lost way more than he won.

I have a coworker who has won really big money at the local casino. Unfortunately, she has probably lost at least twice the amount she won trying to win it. She’s been playing slots for as long as I’ve known her, more than 20 years, and I cringe to think of the money she has spent. COVID actually was good for her, as she wasn’t able to gamble for over a year, and is now happy to have some money in the bank and her bills paid. But I am afraid she may be backsliding….

My best friend's mom is like a professional/addicted gambler.
BF's mom is worth millions. She lives off of the interest from her accounts.
She will go and spend 10k one night, win nothing, but go the next, another 10k and win huge, 100,000 plus. This is the reason my bf doesn't argue, she wins big when she wins. It definitely ends up with her on the better end.
But she's so incredibly LUCKY!! Just lucky in life in general. And the sweetest, best lady.

We used to joke that DH would win back the money I lost. A few times he won enough to pay for our hotel stays.

No but dh's cousin won a half million dollars about five or so years ago. Scratch off ticket. He and his wife had been in debt and lost their house. They used the remaining after taxes to buy a house and I think they also put some away. His wife also came into an ineritance not long after of a couple hundred thousand. They are better with money now, though still not great. They make a very good living, just like to spend too much.
ETA-I guess that's not the kind of gambling you are talking about, but still gambling.

my ex-MIL won about 100k in a lottery.
she is a bit of gambler, pull tickets, scratch tickets, bingo, casino, etc. she would always tell us when she was up, after a weekend at the casino... but i have to assume she didn't say much when she lost??
she gave us $$ for a family vacation from her lottery winnings... i think about $6k? i wanted to go to berlin or roatan Honduras to which she replied: i didn't give you that money to go where you want to, i gave you the money to take my grandkids to disney.... which ended up costing us about another $5-6k on top of that. yikes!!!
i am too cheap to gamble. i hate casinos. but will buy lottery tix - one can dream!!
(eta: i am *very* unlucky and have not won more than $10 or a free ticket)

I don’t meet the $500 thread criteria but I’ll amuse y’all by dating myself.
I went to Vegas once. Once. Young and single with friends. Quickly won $100 in a slot machine. Announced I was stopping and wanted to take a walk or go shopping. My more experienced friends looked at me like I was daft and patiently explained that there was nowhere to walk and there were no stores. Too hot and nothing to see or do. (Late 1980s, definitely before retail mecca and fake European landmarks.)

I'm too intimidated to play the table games, so I stick with slots. I used to play quarters, but now I pretty much play the penny machines. A few years ago when I was in Vegas, I was playing a quarter slot machine (50 cent max bet) and after 3 pulls won $1,500! That made my my day and my trip. Another time when in Vegas I was at a penny machine, put in a $20.00 bill, played 60 cents and won a bonus. By the time the bonus was done I had won $900.00. I cashed out, went to bed, and didn't look at a slot machine the rest of the weekend.
I was sitting next to an older man playing a slot machine when all of a sudden bells started ringing and lights started flashing. I looked over at him and he had this ear to ear grin on his face. Then I looked at his machine and saw that he had won the jackpot--1.5 million dollars!!! I was so thrilled for him.........and maybe just a little bit jealous!

I am not much for gambling. I will play a few slots, but I struggled with being in the smokey casinos. It really aggravated my asthma. Many years ago we were driving back home from a Canada trip and we stopped to spend the night in Vegas. My mom played the dollar slots and after about 15 minutes she started hitting a few payouts. They just kept coming on that one machine until she finally hit a huge payout. The bells flashing and noise of her win drew people from other areas to watch. They were asking if they could touch her for good luck. It was really entertaining. I don't remember how much Mom won, but she came home with most of it. I noticed that when Mom got up from that machine, they put an "out of order" thing over it. I guess they thought it was paying off too often and they needed to fix it. I preferred to play the nickel slots because I could play much longer without blowing through my allotted money so quickly.

I won $1500 on a Keno machine years ago. It came in handy, as we were going to Disney shortly after.
My sister-in-law won a cruise on a scratch-off I gave her for her birthday.

Not me but a co-worker came in one Monday morning, happy as happy can be. His wife had won about ÂŁ30,000 playing Bingo at the weekend, this was the 80's so it was a huge lot of money.
I was completely unaware that you could win that type of money playing bingo, apparently it was a national event not just the local bingo hall.

I've never really gone. We have a local race track/slots here, and as a thank you for helping renovate her new shop location, my friend took her family and DH and I for dinner & races one night. It included a $20 slots voucher in the package.
DH and I put $2 on a horse and won, so we kept the $2 aside and just played the winnings. We were up about $20 and quit. We went to the slots and I lost all of mine fairly quickly - NO idea what I was doing. DH won $16. That's it!
If I went again, I'd have to take a set amount and leave all debit/credit cards at home. I have a feeling I'd be "oh just one more time" and do that until I had no house left lol.

I work in gaming. I do not gamble. If you look at the profits, you'll soon realize we are not in the business of giving away money. Some people who work in gaming are the biggest degenerate gamblers I know, so there is that. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Slots are a losing proposition, table games require skill so your chance of winning is higher. If you really want to learn how to play, go to an empty table and the dealer will be happy to show you how to play. Be sure and always tip, they work for tips just like food service employees.
ETA: for those who have family that play slots and talk about all the money they won, if you actually look at their win/loss statement, you'll soon see what they put in is a lot more than they get back. This doesn't count true lucky spins for big amounts out of the blue for people who don't play regularly.

Well DANG.. I didn't get to go. The couple I was going to go with, the husband came down with that virus going around.. Covid?? Heard of it?? LOL.. He woke up that morning feeling really sluggish and bam, it's COVID. Probably got it from his girls.. One daughter got it at camp and then her sister got it.. but it's been a good two weeks since anything. So yeah, no gambling.
Went to Top Golf instead with other friends. Maybe next time.

I am a cheap gambler, but I do like to play video keno and bonus slots when I go. It's fun and if I go once per year with $50 or less I'm satisfied. One time I won $800 on video keno. I cashed out and put $5 back into the machine, just in case. I won another $345. That will never happen, again. I'd rather buy a cute purse then spend that much at a slot machine. I always know that if I play slots I'm going to lose my money. So, I don't bring much of it. When I win it's a shock. A friend is a compulsive gambler. I watched her lose her home. There's a fine line and for some people there's no such thing as a little bit of fun at the casino.

Any time I end up at a casino, it's because I was someone else who wanted to go. And that's almost always on a cruise or at a resort. I've only been to Vegas once. I mostly toured and shopped while my husband and the others played cards or whatever else.
I have bet on horses at racetracks (steeplechase type events) just to join in on the fun of the day. I'll also throw a few dollars in a Super Bowl pool just to play along.
I basically never gamble thinking I'll win money. I'm just there for the entertainment. --- Oops, that's not entirely true if you count lottery tickets. I buy one about two-three times a year when the pots get ridiculously large. And then I am absolutely hoping to win!

I don't gamble other than an occasional lottery ticket, so no. But a former co-worker of mine once won a visit to a state TV lottery show where she got to spin a prize wheel. She won $100,000 on that thing. The sad part is she gambled it all back away within a year. Awww that is sad. Gambling can really take over a life. One of my best friend's mom is a gambler. Her parents would go almost every weekend. She knew they went but had no idea how much money they were spending until her dad passed away. Thankfully as weird as this sounds, COVID hit and her mom couldn't go anymore due to her health. I think that helped her curve her appetite. Plus her DD watches every move she makes now. She is able to watch her and if she does go now, DD watches her account like a hawk. She was pretty close to losing her house. We had an employee whose spouse was addicted to gambling and they nearly lost their house. The spouse had racked up about $40K in gambling debts and wasn’t going to say anything. Former employee found out when the house was about to go into foreclosure for nonpayment. Things got super ugly. An acquaintance of mine’s mom did lose her house over it. For people with addictive personalities, it can be devastating to their families.

Sounds like my SIL. She ended up loosing her house 8 years ago because she didn't want to go back to work after having her last baby, but she was the only one working. Well the bank started the foreclosure process and it took over a year. In the mean time she did get a job and then promptly kept all the $$ instead of working with the bank to keep the house. So for over a year she lived mortgage free and her, her BF and my FIL spent plenty of time at the casinos.
Here we are 8 years later and the foreclosure and bankruptcy are off so now we just bought another house. But here's the kicker, this time my FIL moved in with them and they live like 15 min from a casino. I don't see this going well
