@patter I love these junk journals. I’ve tried to do abstract mixed media artwork, but it takes real talent to make pages as appealing as yours. Please keep posting them:)

I haven't done them in a while because I really haven't had time with everything else. But now that I have gotten my fingers filled with paint again, I have got to make time because it brings me such joy! And thank you too gillyp.

I spent a few happy hours yesterday cleaning and restoring a two roomed dolls house. I took every thing out and Linseed oiled and waxed polished the floors and doors. Then moved on to cleaning and re waxing the furniture. When everything was dried I put it all back along with some new pieces. Nothing much to show for it but I was able to forget health and worries for a while in my alternative mini world. Crafting keeps me sane, although I think my mister would debate that. Here is a terrible pic of a model of my cat Asha that I lost a month ago. The lady who made her captured the pose spot on. You have to look closely IRL to see her bright blue eyes peeking out over the paws.

Hi August crafters! Such a great variety of lovely projects this month! I'm not sure furniture refinishing technically counts as a craft - but that's what I have been working on. My oldest daughter graduated college in May and is slowly furnishing her first "big girl" apartment on her entry level salary. That meant doing some "shopping" in our basement. This dresser belonged to MY nana and had just been sitting down there unused for YEARS. The odd paint color and vintage pulls weren't really her style so we gave the piece a makeover. Nothing about this project was as straightforward as I thought it would be but she is pleased with the end result! The drawer fronts were particularly challenging. Our first attempt at stain resulted in a sticky mess - we either didn't let the first coat dry long enough before applying the second - or it was just too humid outside. I ended up having to sand back down to the bare wood and re-stain. That attempt "worked" but wasn't at all the look my daughter was going for and really highlighted the poor quality of this particular piece of furniture. (top drawer) So I tried gel stain for the first time - which did the trick in just one coat! (bottom drawer) One more before/after... (my kitty was inspecting my work apparently)

This is the first art quilt I've made in years. I've been mostly doing bed quilts and throws. The details about it are at: blog postThis was machine quilted on my Pfaff but just after I finished it, I got in a long arm - the Handiquilter Capri which is a sit down machine that operates like a home machine but faster, with a much wider and deeper sewing area. I've just started my first quilt on it. I had to get used to how fast it is! Even when I slowed it down it was far faster than the home machine.

lisae - that's beautiful! Have loads of fun with your new toy. (I've finished 63 squares out of a scary 400-ish required. Heading in the right direction, but slowly...)

lisae quilting meets art. Love that piece! Stunning. Anyway my latest dyi is shown below in Instagram link. For those who have seen my barn stars, the wood for the color strip on the table top was literally picked out of the scrap bin from making barn stars. So reclaimed the reclaimed wood. Reclaimed wood squared. Reclaimed wood Inception. Lol. Anyway... http://instagram.com/p/CS8gy9zArFV

Good morning. I am looking for a crochet shawl pattern that won't be too difficult as I am planning to take this one on my camping trip in two weeks and will look pretty in one solid shade of pink. Anyone see anything good recently?

But I just added it to my library thank you.

I’ve been teaching kids sewing classes all summer and this little 8 year old has been multiple times to learn hand sewing but was too scared to try my fast and noisy electric machine. She wanted to make clothes for her Teddy so, prior to her arrival, I oiled my vintage 1902 Singer and downloaded the manual to see how to thread it and wind the bobbin. She really loved turning the handle and sewing slowly! She even gave the electric machine a try (but went back to the Singer!). 2.5 hours later, she went home with her Teddy in a dress matching her own and a quilted backpack!

My nephew and his wife are having a baby girl in December. When my nephew was born, I made him a Christmas stocking from a Bucilla kit. I've decided to make one for the new baby, polar bears

Anyone see anything good recently? I made this recently. Super easy. It's a variation on C2C. Whispering Arrows Shawl - Moogly - video Blog page with directionAlso on Ravelry If the chevrons are too complicated for vacation, they are very subtle and hard to see as well, you can just make all the rows the same and it will still have great texture. ETA - Just to be clear here, that's not my photo.

Y'all. I found a photo of my daughter (age 3 or 4) at my nana's house with the dresser in the background! Hope you don't mind me sharing... When my girls were really little we used to go spend the day with my nana once a month. When they got a bit older we spent the night. My nana lived about an hour away from us at the time. Such treasured memories - riding big wheels in the house, making gingerbread houses or Halloween cookies, "swimming" in the little plastic pool or hunting for Easter eggs in the backyard...

shadow wrap short row sock heel Try saying that after a Guinness or two! how hard is it not to be doing something with your hands? I learned my lesson in college, thank you very much. Sometime during my 3rd-4th year, I decided to make something for my baby niece for Christmas, and suddenly a lightbulb went on. Never before had I not been constantly making something! What.a.difference! Not making that mistake again. @patter - I've especially missed seeing your craft posts. Remembering your quiet, steadfast devotion to God is so helpful to me. You never really know just how far a ripple will go when you toss that pebble into the water.

Mine seems so boring compared to that one, but this is the yarn I had and wanted to get rid of. I really need to finish off the ends... Shoot. It took me 3-4 mins to shoot a quick photo and more than half an hour trying to downsize it enough to be uploaded here only to have this site tell me it's already full. I used to have Photobucket once upon a time. Now, I don't know how to post a photo without putting it on FB first and then opening it up to the public. Feelin' old and out of touch here.

I need to learn how to fix mistakes in knitting without hyperventilating This is why I crochet. HAHA me too! LOL I learned to knit before I learned to crochet. When I got tired of knitting dishcloths, I branched out into a shawl. I messed up something, and thought of having to rip it all out and get it back on the needles was so unappealing, I just put it away and never finished it. I do enjoy knitting, and one of these days, I AM going to knit socks (I swear I am!) but crocheting is so much easier to correct mistakes, so that is what I do.
