Hugs to everyone starting this journey. I got my call in February. No family history, never anything weird on a mammogram. Invasive ductile, strongly hormone positive. I had surgery, then 15 radiation treatments (double strength - equivalent to 30). My tumor was very small and low-grade, so no chemo. I’m on hormone blockers now for five years.
I guess I’m naive, but I never thought about dealing with this. Why not me, I guess, though. I know I’m going to have a nervous breakdown when it’s time for my next mammogram.

mom , I don’t like your update, but I want you to get on that plane and forget about possible breast cancer for a week. It’ll still be here waiting patiently for you when you get back, don’t you worry. Have a wonderful time with your son. My lump I was worried about has practically disappeared, so I’m thinking my doctor was right and it’s a cyst. In any case, I’m over it! First scare in all these years, and I’m so glad it turned out to be nothing. drivingmisscrazy , thoughts go with you as you start on this journey. I had an aggressive, invasive ductal carcinoma that had spread to my lymph nodes, two surgeries, chemo, and radiation, and I’m here to tell the tale 24 years later. Don’t let the damn cancer get you down. LOVE to hear this update! Your'e my hero and inspiration, TNBC is so scary and hearing 24 year survivor gives me so much hope! This is the nicest thing I’ve heard in ages. Thanks so much, and I wish you permanent remission and never having to think about breast cancer ever again.

I’m just starting my journey with this and am in a bit of shock. Went for my annual mammo a week and a half ago. Got a call back for more imaging. Then in for biopsy next day. Last Monday, we were in Boston for my daughter to attend workshops and classes at Berklee. Got the call that it’s cancer. Since we were out of town, my first oncology appointment is Monday morning. I don’t know much and have replayed the conversations in my head. I know it’s invasive ductal carcinoma. I will likely need chemo first then surgery. I’m a bit terrified. Haven’t told anyone outside of dh, sister, and BFF. Decided we will tell kids after my appointment. (((Hugs))) yes, as mom tagged me, this was my type of breast cancer. It is the most common form. I had multiple tumors, with the largest being 2.5 cm, so just over an inch in diameter. I had a bilateral mastectomy first and then when the oncotype came back high-risk, I had 8 rounds of chemo after the surgery. I’ve had 3 reconstruction surgeries after the mastectomy, but my experience is unique that way. If you have any questions, or there is anything that I can do to support you, PLEASE don’t hesitate to let me - or the rest of us - know.

I always find the being by the ocean to be very healing, so try to take a little time taking in the salt air and doing some deep breathing by the sea. Resting mentally and physically will be the best thing you can do in preparation of returning for the biopsy. Praying for a restful and peaceful trip for you.
I had a mammo in October or early Nov. 2019 which showed some abnormal cells which I couldn't see despite the radiologist assuring me that there was a change from my 2017 to 2018 and now a more visible change from my 2018 to 2019 mammos, a biopsy in early Dec where the dr was sure it was just microcalcifications, results in early Jan with showed ADH and a lumpectomy in late Jan of 2020 which came back with DCIS/LCIS. Finished radiation in March 2020 just as covid was starting to shut everything down. At every appointment it wasn't what they were expecting but it wasn't as bad as it could have been (thought it was just microcalcifications, biopsy showed ADH but at least it's not cancer...lumpectomy to remove ADH, but biopsy of removed tumor was actually DCIS/LCIS but it least it wasn't invasive) so it was a weird sort of sad/happy/sad cycle. Bottom line is that it was caught very very early and was treated fairly easily (as in no chemo) in a fairly short amount of time. If you have to have this happen, I hope that it goes as easily and smoothly as mine did. I was very very lucky and am now a big proponent of mammograms and early ID. BTW - my genetic testing came back normal so no good indication of why it happened at age 47.

mom sorry to read your update, but it sounds like you are getting good care and catching things early. The best thing you can do is enjoy your vaca and find some peace! There's so many things it could be and you should wait until you have a clear result from biopsy. I've just been thru this whole ordeal recently, so if you have any questions or want any resources, please message me and I will try to help.

Not much, though and I didn't even know what questions to ask. Both dh and I just went blank. I was told I was triple positive, so it is very aggressive. I really thought I would have a couple of weeks at least to wrap my brain around everything. But, the very next day I was in all day long going from one scan to the next and labs, etc. Port was put in on Wednesday. I was supposed to start chemo today, but there was a hang up getting approval for one of the drugs. So, I got a couple of extra days. In the meantime, I still have to have an mri this weekend it looks like before they start the chemo on Monday. Ugh. My anxiety is through the roof and think I'm going to needs some heavy duty meds just to get me through the start of this. At least. We have told all the kids. That was tough. My 25 yo ds is special needs and we aren't sure he fully grasps what it all means. Dh has taken over full time duty managing him for now. In the meantime, since I bought a couple of extra days - I'm going out for some really good sushi and wine tonight!

In the meantime, since I bought a couple of extra days - I'm going out for some really good sushi and wine tonight! (((Hugs))) I’m sorry that it is triple-positive. At least there are some specific HER+ chemo drugs out there. Since you brought up food, my advice to you is to make a special point of eating all the foods you really love before chemo starts. No one prepared me for completely losing my sense of taste during chemo, and I had a really hard time dealing with that. Things like bagels and cream cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches, hamburgers - previous comfort food - became inedible, because it was just a large tasteless lump in my mouth. I lived on soups and smoothies and watermelon 🍉 (for the texture), because I didn’t have to hold the tasteless food in my mouth for long and could swallow it down quickly. Canned Chef Boyardee Mini Ravioli became a staple, because it didn’t require much chewing and yet was filling without upsetting my stomach. They put me on excellent anti-nausea/appetite stimulant drugs, so I wasn’t often nauseated, but couldn’t stand tasteless food. And my taste didn’t come back until 3-4 weeks after my last chemo infusion, so it was close to 5 months. So, enjoy the sushi and wine. Have a steak, if you like them. Eat all the bread products you crave, because if you lose your sense of taste, you won’t be able to tolerate them. (((Hugs)))

Best of luck for your treatment drivingmisscrazy. I agree with the advice to eat the things you love. In fact, my cousin was told that she shouldn't worry about trying to eat a healthy, nutritious diet while undergoing her treatment. Her oncologist said to eat whatever she could tolerate. If that meant eating stuff loaded with fat or sugar or salt, so be it.

UPDATE #3
I had my biopsy done last Thursday. 2 larger masses and one tiny mass. They called today (a day early!) and its not cancer and just totally benign masses. We will still do mammograms every six months because of my family history but otherwise nothing to worry about!
Thank you all for the support!
