And to be fair…if you (general you) have expressed concern for officers nationwide for this shit storm of crap activity they have had to deal with I could of missed it…did I? Of course you don’t have to have a disclaimer but to act all shocked and upset about what officers dealt with at the capitol and not acknowledge officers all over the nation wading through the muck is at best weak I think, of all the members of this board, I have more right than anyone else to speak on this subject. My husband was a law enforcement officer who was murdered at age 41 without rational cause by someone he was trying to arrest for a relatively minor matter. I am a left-leaning moderate and I support law enforcement. I do not support racism, whether overt and deliberate, or unconscious and systemic. I understand that sometimes the police have to kill someone, but also that sometimes police shootings are not supported by the evidence. Am I allowed to express an opinion on this subject without you sneering at me? Lucy, I had no idea. I am so sorry. I've always admired you and now even more so. My beliefs align with yours and I feel very alienated sometimes because I don't fit into a box. But part of me is glad about that. I have always respected LEO's and continue to do so. As for rockymtnpea I get what you are saying. But please know you are trying to put many people into a box that you apparently feel so strongly about. When you do that, you are too busy yelling at others to be listening to what is being said. |

I do understand a bit of rockymtnpea 's frustration in general, although I'm not sure it's quite warranted here. The Times article which I'm not sure if you read rockymtnpea but you should some one posted on the first page - it's long but really does talk quite a bit about the issue where there's so many facets from the viewpoint of a Metropolitan cop who responded on 1/6. The "traditional" back the blue were waving their flags while beating cops. The most vocal critics struggled to embrace those who were trying to protect democracy as they're so frustrated with lack of movement on systemic racism. You have the heroes who protected the Capital while at the same time the off duty cops who were protestors. It's big and ugly and shows how few groups are as easy to label or put in a box as we'd like. I have multiple family member LEO's so know this has been a tough tough time and they're tired of being lumped in with the bad cops. But I also know and acknowledge it's been too damn long for the bad apples to have been tossed and there has to be change as what's happening is not okay. A final thought on the peas - there are a few extremely vocal anti-LEO people. And some threads have become extremely ugly. But the vast majority of peas are sad to hear of an officer killed in the line of duty and there have been multiple threads with threads expressing concern. It's hard, but don't let a few loud voices allow you to put this place in the same box kwim? |

Ya ok…much hate for officers in general on this board…so this fake ‘oh my gosh this is sad’ is a bit much I don't/never had hate for officers. I do know and think officers who are using excessive force or unjustly kill should be held accountable. There are absolute times officers need/must shoot. They all should be investigated fully. Like it or not Jan 6th was an assault on our government, on our Democracy, on our country's survival. It truly cannot be compared to much else. |
